    Excellent tutorial video. The roots on my are not quite as big as yours so I shall wait a few weeks and I will follow your potting instructions. Thank you very much Maria. I am glad I've accidentally found you.

      +Blanca Acosta LOL! I am so glad that you accidentally found me too!!! YAAAAAAAY US!!! My catesetum type is doing exceedingly well...this was the best method for me and I am being rewarded for my bold attempt in discovering this method...it is growing like crazy to the point that I will have to do another repot very soon. Please keep me posted on how yours does. :)

      I am so happy with my catasetum. Just like weed or bad grass, just keeps growing really fast. I am not to sure when I can start watering. How can a follower share pictures or ideas with you?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 років тому

      I wouldn't be too intimidated to water...I think the key is to allow it moisture without the over eccessive drenching...spraying it lightly is good for starting off, just make sure it can comfortably collect water and still breath at the same time....and when it really takes off then you can begin to water as normal...I started my catasetum with light moisture in the terrarium just as soon as I seen the nubbin and now it's GROWING like there is no tomorrow! I have learned that along with the knowledge you gain you also have to use what you think is right for you...often times I have gotten off the beaten path and have discovered a better way of doing things...at least for me. So try not to over worry yourself with every detail...and remember to also enjoy the experience and the journey!! :) ...oh and you are welcome to share your pics on Facebook @ my orchid adventures. HAPPY GROWING! :)

    Great Job Maria! Look at all those green healthy roots!!! I just recently received my first cstm which the new growth is already leafing, but will try this once it goes dormant. I'm nervous cause everyone keeps saying the nubs can rot! and I definitely want to avoid that. Thanks for sharing.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 років тому

      +YenYen's garden Thank you so much for watching...and yes I was a bit nervous too with all the talk of rotting the new growth...but I've had great luck with mine and I really do give this method that I tried all of the credit. It really helps to see what is going on and with the terrarium method and using clear containers really gives you an advantage into literally seeing up close what is going on. This Catasetum type orchid is growing like crazy right now...and the roots are massive in such a short time...I will have to do another repot on this very soon...YIKES! LOL!

    awesome strategy Maria! so smart! I have always avoided orchids that require a dry rest because I am also very heavy handed with watering(hence my love for Vandas). Maybe I'll give them a try and use your method. The bottle would act as a barrier between the orchid and my neurotic "must water everything! " mentality. xoxo

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 років тому

      +TropicalPlantParty 1 HA HA HA!!! RIGHT!!! ...and thank you so much for your kind comments....yes the bottle method has worked exceedingly well for me!!! The roots are growing like crazy and it may be time for a repot soon!!! YIKES! If you do decide to give it a go...please keep me posted...and perhaps even a video...hint, hint! The bottle terrariums are great for a number of things...and I always have a couple on standby just incase. Hoping all is well with you dear friend...and I can't wait to see your vandas all come into bloom!!! :)

    I just got my first data setup and it is pushing a small growth with 3 small roots. Should I repot now or leave it in its original pot🙏🏼? Thank you Maria and stay safe!

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  3 роки тому

      It is really your preference whether or not you want to repot it. Some people use the same pot and media over and over until it breaks down or is non usable any longer. So whatever you feel most comfortable with is fine.

    How are you going to pot it up without damaging the growing root tips? Or I guess I should ask how did you manage to not damage the new root tips? I'd be too scared to pot it with the roots like that unless potting into peat mix, which, I think would work great with these.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 років тому

      When you soak the roots for about 5 - 10 minutes they become more workable...they were easy to pot up and not a single root was damage...at least that I know of...and as of right now I am so due for an update...because this orchid has been growing like crazy!!!! The roots are absolutely insane...stay tuned for the video,

      +Gloriana Yeagley This has worked exceedingly well for me...I am actually very amazed...The roots and foliage are growing like mad...and I will actually have to repot her soon because of it! ...this method is great for orchids that need constant moisture but are prone to root rot if given too much watering. ...please keep me posted if you try this method on any of your orchids.

    Hi Maria, sort of an aside question.. how do you make the holes in the bottom half of your terrarium? I'm wondering what tool/method you use because the edges on the holes you made seem so uniform and clean (i.e. not burnt black, which I haven't managed to do😅).

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 років тому

      +ikic dox I actually used a regular soldering gun...I guess the gun I have uses a low enough setting where it doesn't burn the plastic as much...if you want the same results you may want to go with one that has temperature control.

  • @rhioroque
    @rhioroque 7 років тому +1

    is Florida and Philippines are climate alike?
    I'm an orchid lover too..
    I like a lot of your videos you inspire me..
    so do you understand Tagalog?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 років тому

      Here in Florida it we have very hot temperatures that are similar to the Philippines...although I will say it can get a whole lot hotter in the Philippines. What kind of orchids do you have and which ones are your favorites? Thank you so much for your kind comments and I am so happy you have joined me on my orchid adventures! :) ...oh and I can speak in tagalog...a little...but it is putol putol...and sometimes baliktad....LOL! I can understand a lot of it...but leaving the Philippines as a toddler, there is also a lot I have unfortunately forgotten.

      But I don't know their names..
      Haha..
      I've search it in
      The Google but unfortunately
      I don't find the names of the others..
      I can teach you again

    What do you use to create the holes in your soda bottle??

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  6 років тому

      I used a sodder gun...a tool normally used for melting wires but works really well melting and creating a hold in the plastic. It can purchased at any hardware store and have been told that your Walmarts carry them as well.
