Yes, it seems to me, and the drag race community seem to think, the bike has been designed to throw out the euro 5 exhaust system. Retune and it will be a lot more powerful than gen 2.
This video is the best I've seen on breaking down the details on the new Busa but more importantly holding the Suzuki rep foot to the fire with the top questions. Great journalism done here..! However alike alot of Busa owners who are sold on the Gen 2 there's no big need to go after the gen 3. This bike should've been released 8 years ago at least. I understand and agree with reliability and characteristic, but the engine should've been bigger with more power plain and simple.! If cost was gonna be an issue let the consumer deal with it not the manufacturer because they already are with the addition of rider aid electronics. Like the rep said, they have engineers to create a reliable bigger motor so why not?..smh. Beautiful bike I must say, but Suzuki dropped the ball this time here.
How many are looking through 'rose tinted' glasses? This could have been so much more - they probably think there is no new real competition, so why up their game? How many riders did they ask, what they wanted? Where is the center-stand option? Why do they have to take away so much to give us a bike so full of tech, so handheld, that the real biker becomes detached from the skills they have learnt through the years of learning their craft? A nice bike to look at, but what will it be like to live with? And why did it take so long to be released? What were they waiting for? A worldwide pandemic, an economic meltdown, millions at risk of losing their jobs; what a perfect time to release a new bike!!!

@@monkmoto1887 Nor even a new flagship model above the Hayabusa with a 1400cc engine that can compete against the H2 or ZH2..But no, just another redesign with euro 5 compliant regulated components.
I still remember this feeling when I had my 2000 “blue” bird anxiously waiting for the new blackbird to compete with the busa. But then!! Out came the vfr1200. And my stomach fell to the floor. Why did you do this honda??? Well that actually made up my mind. Bought a gen 2 and we’ve had it now for about 5 years already, added some nice pipes and got rid of the cats. Smiles all the way. Gen 3 is almost that same feeling I had when Honda brought out the vfr1200. I guess next mod is a little turbo.
This was a thoughtful, intelligent update. Only a handful of riders will ever experience *any* negative performance change - and they might lying. The Hayabusa has so much reserve power even this new mid-range punch might rarely be mined in the real world. What *is* important is the details make this a much better ownership experience. Like Paul said, "Ride it." Nobody on earth - specially many "expert" commenters - can talk about what these improvements mean on the road. Hang in there.
I'm sick of hearing this excuse. By that measure only a handful of riders would have ever got one in the first place - much less tuned them. Its obviously stupid talk and if you want a less powerful bike with more midrange there are plenty to choose from already. People never got a busa because they secretly wanted a VFR.
I love Busas but Suzuki have missed a trick here. It's had its balls cut off! Ruined by euro 5 and electronics you don't need. It should have been a 1500 or supercharged
Agree on that . Kawasaki smaller H2r 399kph top speed really are something... Suzuki should topple that by a few kph at least .that is what HAYABUSA is all about.
@@Cino777 and what does a new H2 cost compared to a new Busa. You guys are ridiculous. Would you rather the bike sell well, or go the way of the ZX14 Ninja?
Hayabusa. Built as the fastest production bike on the planet. Named after the fastest bird of prey. In 2021 where all performance bikes are 200kgs or less and kicking out at least 200hp, this shows up at over quarter of a tonne with 187hp. It's very DNA means they had to bring it to market with at least 200hp. This should have shown up with 210hp and more torque.
It looks sleek and classy in that black and copper/bronze paint scheme. I will try and get a test ride on one here in France. I would be interested in a back to back test against the mighty H2 SX.

I no longer race or feel the need to see top end so it's more bike than I'll ever need. Btw...His fuel calculation was significantly off. Tenth of a second difference is huge when you consider the distance being covered at speed.
Great video Simon. As a Gen 1 owner I have no intention of swapping - Gen 2 and 3 might be better looking and have the modern tech but I kind of like the old fashioned nature of the gen 1 and the performance is basically the same.
When the 1999 Busa came out with that copper colored bike, I was blown away...Still love that first Gen...New ones are over styled...Had a 1992 ZX11 but couldn't afford the Busa..Got a 2012 ZX14R, when they added 20+ hp from the ZX14....Stupid fast for the road (FUN!)..Getting too old now so have a 2015 FJR1300 that still has as much power as my ZX11 had! Last note: You're right, that first Gen Busa will still keep up with anything on the road..
I currently own a Gen 2 and absolutely love my Busa! I’m over 6ft tall so I’m not sure about the overall shorter length and smaller tank on the Gen 3. Seems like taller riders will be uncomfortable once tucked over the tank, twisting on the throttle. Suzuki could have really set the bar high with this Gen 3 but didn’t. All of the updated electronics have been available for years in the 1,000’s! For me it doesn’t justify paying another $7,000+ for a Gen 3. I’ll ride one eventually and hopefully it changes my mind but for now...I’ll keep my Gen 2! Great video!
I’ve had a gen 1 Busa and it was an incredible machine. One of the best motorcycles I’ve ever had: fast, furious, but also very soft when I felt like it. Fuel consumption was superb ( less than a 600cc when traveling side by side on National roads), comfortable with a higher screen installed, and yes, extremely reliable! It was a wonderful machine, but time goes on and nowadays it’s not for me, and I honestly thought that these kind of motorcycles have got to an end... seems that I was wrong 😆
Very good & interesting honest vid. Rightly or wrongly I'm presuming all those internal changes would surely equate to more power & torque if it wasn't for Euro 5 strangulation. I guess we'll see what it's really made of once the tuners get hold of it & have a play with the ECU & exhaust etc.
@@luko560 Because every EU5 bike is getting cats in the cans it will also be common knowledge among every traffic copper in the land so if they hear one on a pipe you're getting nicked.
For those enough old enough to remember, this bike is the Kawasaki KH500 of the modern era. Now at the young age of 75 and on my third Hayabusa and have covered close to 165k on them most of it in Europe my bike is a 2013 with ABS I bought new . The fuel figures I've just watched made me smile , Plymouth to my house 240 miles and done it on one tank of fuel riding in c (Chicken mode) and keeping to a speed that wouldn't get me band but only just. Ive done this run loads of times and normally have to stop to top up. Sadly I'll never own the new one but but mine still makes me smile.
That Suzuki Director is justifying the fact the engine wasnt beefed up. Busa is such a cornerstone in biking world that Suzuki should have considered all these factors, It's not like the new busa is cheaper than the old one .So they could have beefed up the engine in first place. The next iteration of Busa wil remember the learning,
With the engine updates and Euro 5 compliance I am surprised there wasn’t an improvement in fuel economy. While economy is not necessarily a priority for a hypersport, it does help when it is time to “justify” a purchase🙂
Show me the Dyno! ... oh there it is. Like the V-strom, the new Busa will attract new riders, but the current owners will jog on. Good on you Simon for asking the hard questions.
These were not hard questions. Just whining as a baby just like you can about every single bike on the planet. Create and build your own bike and you’ll still have a bunch of whiners who will complain about something.
V -strom increse HP and torque. The busa no. The question is, you go to 300km/h in the street ?? the answer is NO. i dont understand the obssesion of HP or top speed in a street bike.
Just recently bought this bike ,owned two gen 1 bikes previously ,the power figures dont bother me its the package as a whole that counts, suzuki has knocked it out of the park, the fact that suzuki improved the internals mean the real power crazy guys can supercharge and turbo them the rest of us can appreciate a modern refresh of one of the best bikes ever built ,if you are a busa nut this is nirvana just my 2 cents worth.

Why upgrade when you can sell the same thing? They have no competition now. A gen 1 and a gen 2 are more than enough for most people who can ride. Is that now the point, people rely too much on tech? What happen to skill and the feel of the road? Is this just another way of holding people's hands, so we become more asleep?
@@can-uc-wakeup they have more competition then ever before, the Hayabusa was built on power and speed, it's HP and acceleration were industry leading....Now days it's rival companies naked bikes alone leave it for dead kawasaki ZH2, SPEED TRIPLE 1200, KTM 1290R, DUCATI STREET FIGHTER, if that wasn't bad enough EVERY SINGLE litre bike in production decimates the new BUSA. @@ausforce1 Sounds great on paper. Now go have a look at actual drag times and wind your neck in. I agree if Kawi bring out a new ZZR the busa is a sitting duck but they already pretty much ruled that out ages ago. Its all likely to be 1000cc (or thereabout) with boost for now in their big bikes.
Whew that midrange dip in the torque on the old one. I think I agree with the engineers decisions here. Happy to give up 3 or 4 % off the peak number for a better curve shape.
Have you seen how that torque dip goes away on the old one once its set up? That was an emissions downside back then. Difference being you only needed to map the old one for that dip to go and a lot more power. The new one will need cams to get the top end back.
I get the Suzuki UK head chaps perspective, and it does make sense. For the road, you don't need more than 185 BHP. Yep , mid range is more useful. I guess it is a surprise, because the Busa was always about ultimate performance that was only usable on a track or drag strip. The Busa has now toddled off into middle age, to rest on it's laurels. It sounds like Suzuki will sell them, but I still can't help but to be at least a little bit disappointed. It still has way more power than I'd ever use, so I guess I should shut up now !
and why did the enginears make it a pain in the arse with the clutch push rod seal on the earlyer bikes?, i hope they have made it easyer now but i some how doubt it.
I don't really care about the slightly lower hp and lb/trq. And fully agree with the strategy to improve low-mid range per. But what hits me is the smaller gas tank and is 15% more thirsty. I absolutely dislike stoping every 100-120mls for gas.

Mate the busa has been designed to mod. Just throw out the euro 5 pipe and re chip. There is bigger more reliable power in it than ever before. I'm sure it will dominate drag racing.
Gosh I bet that H2 is fun!
Naaaah, Suzuki missed the target here, imo. Reliability apparently the priority, well, they were always bulletproof, so.... A bit disappointed
I’m curious to see if you feel the same after you drive it, if it is truly disappointing compared to the old one.
If you ever do, please update 🙏🏾 I’m still driving a 600, and am still quite the beginner, I would probably kill myself on any Hayabusa 😅
I agree. Hayabusa was meant to mean groundbreaking. Now it means basically the same bike that everybody knows...
If it is not broken then don’t fix it. The motor is bulletproof. A few HP is easy to find with a couple mods.
Kudos for not just spewing off accolades that Suzuki wants you to say. Good job challenging the manufacturer on that!

TBH it runs like a standard bike. I chose a milder cam profile and titanium valves, traded a few bhp at the top for more reliability.
It’s bullet proof. The only place you can really abuse would be on track. So reliability isn’t going to be an issue.
It’s an entertaining ride 😁
Damn only 210 i make close to that with bolt ons and e85 tune with 1340cc 198-204 on 3 different dynos

I take my gen 2 on trips, more gas usage, less capacity, much more money, I’ll pass. I’m disappointed, I believe this was a waste of a redesign and they should have aimed at being the best again instead of playing it safe.

Now that is a bike review from a journalist! ... Not youtube guff... Well done
Probably should show a graph of how the midrange compares to GSX-R 1000. Spec sheet comparisons might be misleading there too.
I love Busas but Suzuki have missed a trick here. It's had its balls cut off! Ruined by euro 5 and electronics you don't need. It should have been a 1500 or supercharged
Should have been 1550 Turbocharged
Agree on that . Kawasaki smaller H2r 399kph top speed really are something... Suzuki should topple that by a few kph at least .that is what HAYABUSA is all about.
I was hoping for more 😩 still, saved myself £16.5k 😂
Or even better, being twincharged without a single electronic with the design like Kawasaki's Supercharger.
H2 will kick ass

Brilliant review!!! Love the format. Personally see all the ways it’s improved and new exhausts and map will see all the gains you need for some lay-by talk
Problem being the cats are in the cans aswell. Every traffic copper in the land will know that since most of the EU5 bikes are the same so swap a pipe and you're not only getting pulled but probably a ticket to get it re-mot'ed and if they really want to be a55hats about it a prohibition notice.

Gen 1 owner here. I do like the orange gen 2. Never driven a gen 2.
I'm a gen 1 owner, never ridden a gen 2. I prefer the looks of the gen 1, the back end of the gen 2 looks like it melted.
I like my gen 1 I’m 5ft 8 67kgs and this thing is fuckn mad haha

Proper journalism, great job Mr H 👍
I’ve had a gen 1 Busa and it was an incredible machine. One of the best motorcycles I’ve ever had: fast, furious, but also very soft when I felt like it. Fuel consumption was superb ( less than a 600cc when traveling side by side on National roads), comfortable with a higher screen installed, and yes, extremely reliable! It was a wonderful machine, but time goes on and nowadays it’s not for me, and I honestly thought that these kind of motorcycles have got to an end... seems that I was wrong 😆
Fun fact: the exhaust cans on the Hayabusa use the same amount of sheet steel as the car in the back ground!
Aftermarket Pipe and a reflash will sort those numbers... for...whoever thinks theyre small. That increase in low-midrange will be very noticeable
These two chaps were the living personification of unconvinced and unconvincing. Gen 2 owners wishing to sell might well get a nice price boost though. Excellent journalism, no sychophancy for a free hamburger. Good man !

Awesome interview..... That Suzuki guy looks a bit like young Jeremy Clarkson.....😎
As an owner and enthusiastic about Hayabusa, I would say that after having waited for 14 years Suzuki did not even bother to upgrade the engine.
Exactly, who wants that wussy 187HP? We all know that regular Joe Schmo needs at least 250HP rolling down to Starbucks.

Now at the young age of 75 and on my third Hayabusa and have covered close to 165k on them most of it in Europe my bike is a 2013 with ABS I bought new .

You won't believe it, but check back here on Thursday 1st April - just over a week and a bit 🤞
With the engine updates and Euro 5 compliance I am surprised there wasn’t an improvement in fuel economy. While economy is not necessarily a priority for a hypersport, it does help when it is time to “justify” a purchase🙂

Suzuki are turning into Harley Davidson using the same frame for multiple bikes for years in end with little actual development in their new models..
Haha good point!
Why upgrade when you can sell the same thing? They have no competition now.
A gen 1 and a gen 2 are more than enough for most people who can ride. Is that now the point, people rely too much on tech?

I don't really care about the slightly lower hp and lb/trq. And fully agree with the strategy to improve low-mid range per. But what hits me is the smaller gas tank and is 15% more thirsty. I absolutely dislike stoping every 100-120mls for gas.
