SAUDI ARABIA Solo Travel | Caught in Medina as Non Muslim المدينة المنورة🇸🇦

This is my experience travelling solo in Medina (Saudi Arabia), the second holiest city of Islam, in November 2022. I was caught by the religious police while walking in front of the Prophet Mosque as not Muslim.
Medina is generally considered to be the "cradle of Islamic culture and civilization". The city is considered to be the second-holiest of three key cities in Islamic tradition, with Mecca and Jerusalem serving as the holiest and third-holiest cities respectively. Al-Masjid al-Nabawi ( 'The Prophet's Mosque') is of exceptional importance in Islam and serves as burial site of the last Islamic prophet, Muhammad, by whom the mosque was built in 622 CE. Observant Muslims usually visit his tomb, or rawdhah, at least once in their lifetime during a pilgrimage known as Ziyarat, although this is not obligatory.
Medina is my second stop within my 10 days solo travel experience in Saudi Arabia, a country which opened to international tourism in 2019 only and it is is still partly misunderstood.

Medina, the second holiest city of Islam. Millions of pilgrims travel to this place to visit the tomb of the Prophet. Such a magical place. However, if you are non Muslim you may face some restrictions😬. As always, thanks for watching and subscribe to help this channel grow😊

No, we go to Medina not for the tomb of prophet, but because the mosque. Just saying.
For the restrictions, what i know, there is no difference restriction in medina from the religion, but i do not know if there is any restriction from the saudi government, but at mecca, yes, there is a restriction.
Maybe it is because you go to the prophet mosque at praying time, when everyone praying, you are "playing" :)

As I Saudi I can tell you filming in Makkah or al Madinah is allowed, you can find hundreds of people filming without any problems, maybe because you are a western or a non Muslim (not meaning anything by it) they stopped you, because couple of months ago a western journalist entered Makkah and ignored the roles of non Muslims not entering Makkah , so maybe after that incident they were told (the police or the authorities) to be a little bit more careful.
I know it's scary to be stopped by police in any country, but trust me when I say that the Saudi police is the friendliest towards tourists, they may sound or look angry, but they won't do anything to you unless you break an important law.
    Good luck in you journey.

Thanks a lot for your comment. To be honest it was one of the scariest moments of my travel. The language barrier was the biggest issue as I could not explain what I was doing there. Having said that, Saudi people in general have been super kind and hospitable, I am really impressed!

Leave it to a westerner to have the urge to be arrogant and want to flaunt the rules and denigrate the customs other people. That just adds fuel unnecessarily to a smoldering fire of suspicion towards westerners who have an awful reputation and long history of disrespecting others.

So you are telling you are allowed to film in Makkah or Madinah but at the same time when tourists come there, want to see those very nice buildings then it's not allowed? Why is this? People of Faith actually would love to receive people who do not have the religion or any knowledge of it, so they can learn something. With these restrictions it's a pity because it makes Saudi-Arabia less of a tourists attractive country and also if these cities would be opened for also non-Muslims then everybody can see how it all works and that Islam is more than only the things that people, mostly from the West are seeing on tv. Don't blame people from the West, ordinary citizens what the decisions of their governments. For starters, because we are not living in the 21th century and the world gets smaller, why not allow non-Muslim into those cities, but still keep the Haj strictly only for Muslims. Let the non-Muslims witness it and experience something great. In all fairness, what is there to loose? Most people (from the West) are good decent people and show full respect to all cultures.

    • @mohammedalshenaifi4060
      @mohammedalshenaifi4060 Рік тому +4

@@Snowwie88 Non Muslims are not allowed to enter Makkah, it is a place of worship not a tourist attraction, you can enter Medina but you can't enter Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, however you can film Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi easily without breaking any rules, the distance between the allowed area and the mosque is les than 200 meters, that way you didn't break any rule and you filmed what you want to film.
If you're seeking knowledge about the religion you can enter any mosque in the world everyone would be more than happy to help you, and there is Islamic centers and museums, just avoid these two mosques.
I know most people (from the west) are good decent people, but it's simply a place of worship, everyday these two mosques are full, so imagine it opening for everyone you won't be able to set foot in it.
I hope I clarified everything for you, hopefully one day you could see it for yourself.

Sometimes it became a challenge for security officials to differentiate between non- muslims and muslims. After a journalist recently entered Mecca and later made a whole video of his experience, the security of Mecca was compromised. Because of influx of tourists around the mosque these days they are cautious. I wish to visit the city one day Inshallah.

And I apologize in behalf for what happened to you. Please understand that its mostly for safety, they just making sure that these many people in one place are 100% safe.
