I listen to BG since 1999, but NEVER came across this band, NEVER!! Well, later than never. Thanks to Piet, Thomen and all the members. That is how BG should NEVER have stopped to sound like.
That 2nd song on this album pretty much is Blind Guardian. If you did not know any better, you would think that song was Hansi singing it and Blind Guardian playing the song.
If you want to cheer up, You need to add a lot Blind guardian plus a good part of tasty Persuader, flavour with Iron savior powder, attach a little Piet Sielk syrup, sprinkle a couple of drops of Paragon and one Gamma ray cherry above - AND THE HEADBANGING COCTAIL IS READY!!!
This is one of the greatest albums of all time imo. The songwriting is on another level, especially in terms of variety(!), energy and dramaturgy. Who wrote that stuff?
Most people seem to hear a lot of Blind Guardian in Savage Circus and the only two songs I hear those distinct 90s BG riffs are in the first and fifth tracks. The rest sounds like if you put Iron Savior and Persuader in a blender, you clearly get a Savage Circus smoothie. As a huge Blind Guardian fan ("Omen" Stauch be praised) I totally hear BG in "Evil Eyes" and some of the riffs and build up in "It The Gathering" reminds me of BG. The rest of this album is Iron Savior tempo and chorus, and Persuader guitars and vocals of course.
NOW I get it why thomen left BG. Fun Fact: Now on 2020, BG just want to sound like they were back in the day. Listen to Violent Shadows. It's an awesome song, but they came too late. We are in 1984, there will be no more gigs in the future. Just "live videos" for people locked in their prison/houses and masks to keep they away from smile, talk or live. Dystopia is here, Dystopia is everywhere!
@@rubendarksun6691 Yes, I also love it. I think that Violent Shadows and Destiny are the weaker songs there, but the album as a whole is great. Damnation, Blood of the Elves, Architects of Doom, Life Beyond the Spheres, they are all classics that can easily rival their 90's material.
@@BlindBosnian yeah those songs are masterpieces while violent shadows is just a good song. Destiny is a weird experiment. And the american gods is not old BG but has a brilliant structure
We need another album...please guys, and call Thomen, again he was the soul (and the heart) of the band. Of doom and death is a good album, but the magic lies in this one
Sounds a lot more like Iron Savior than Blind Guardian. Some of those riffs sound almost the same as Iron Savior songs. (The chorus in Fire And Ice, for example, sounds a lot like the one from "Made Of Metal")
This band had a bright future if they kept making albums like this. There are a lot of orphans of power metal without overdramatic symphony like the boring shitfest that bands like Blind Guardian and Rhapsody morphed into.
damn truth, mostly of symphonic freaks are almost pop more than Metal, Rhapsody been a way different thing specially at Turilli/Lione combo era, and sure, all we miss the times when Power Metal was way more rough, Thomen Stauch at drums, enough said! \m/
no band has the monopoly of doing great Power Metal, if you meant by : "blind copy" ;) If i band plays good Power Metal, no harm to listen to it and every bands copies themselves :p

I took one look at the cover, thought "Oh crap, it's one of *those* power metal albums" and then proceeded to have my mind blown.

@Judge731 Savage Circus is a German/Swedish power metal band originally created as a side project by Thomen Stauch before leaving Blind Guardian.
Don't you feel BG in the 2nd track too? The chorus reminds me of NIME melodies

Eh, Violent Shadows isn't that great. It sounds like a rejected A Twist in the Myth track tbh (and that is their weakest record so far).

Imo, it wasn't worth leaving Blind Guardian to make this kind of music. Without Hansi's vocals, the appeal is mostly lost.
