  • I had no expectations for Luxembourg because they've been away from the contest for so long, and yet I'm still pretty disappointed. They completely took the wrong approach with this selection and scrapped authentic self-written songs in favor of a bunch of Swedish and Norwegian ones that don't actually showcase the Luxembourgish music industry like they said they would do. Then they didn't even pick the clear standout amongst the performances of those songs because they had a voting system that made no sense. Nice.
    I'm not sure how well they'll do with the entry they chose, it could really go either way but I don't care much regardless. I just hope they completely rethink this national final in the future, because this was not it.

    Just a bizarre decision. Honestly, Bjorkman's creepy little fingers were so much all over this selection that I knew we were going to end up with the wrong winner. So, I can't really act like I was surprised. "Fighter" is one of those songs that fans are going to be kind to at the moment of selection, but once it's being stacked up against 30+ songs from other countries, expect it to be universally in bottom tens of tops. Krick was never going to be that. Hers would've held up.

    I’m so impressed by Luxembourg. Having a national selection, making it such a big deal, delivering a production that could put a lot of established national finals to shame.
    Now if only the songs were better. Luckily; they chose a good one! :)

      I wish I could be as positive about this tbh. Didn't like the overall production myself (the stage was WAAAY too big and they had the Romania problem of putting dancers in almost every performance even when they didn't fit). That said, I skimmed through the full stream to see the results and I did really like the commentators. I usually watch Eurovision on UA-cam with no commentator, but I'd genuinely consider watching on RTL if those two are the ones commentating lol.

    Hello there!
    I wasn’t able to watch anything live last week (also tomorrow), though I would’ve chosen this one if I could (mostly because RTL was the only channel working on Hypnotix lol). The production value of this show is _insane._ Minor thing but it also has my favorite “stage ready” sound so far. All RTL needs to do is pick better songs.
    Impressively, not only is LSC the *THIRD* selection with an equal like/dislike split for me, but all entries are ranked at either a 7 or 5. Nothing higher, nothing lower, nothing in between. That said, unlike last time, I would definitely notice if you swapped any entries with each other.
    Here’s my thoughts!!
    -GOOD (7/10)-
    *1. Finally Alive (+1.0, +4)*
    Arguably the least soulless of all of these songs, which is reason alone to just win the whole thing. Not only has the song itself grown on me quite a lot, but the live performance was super fun. I see no reason it should’ve come as low as it did.
    *2. Fighter (=, -1)*
    Sorry but I fully defend this winning. It was my favorite before the show, I really like the instrumental. Of course it won’t be very high in my ranking, but…nothing here would anyway.
    Also, in this song’s defense, it only lost the public vote by _one_ point. And it won in the first round too!
    *3. Drowning in the Rain (=, -1)*
    Krick’s performance was absolutely breathtaking, it gave me goosebumps. That being said, I would like it more in a different selection; being grouped with these songs makes it even more obvious it’s just attempted jury bait. Won’t go any higher than this.
    *4. Drop (+.5, -1)*
    They committed to this and I really like it. I don’t think this song is bad in the first place, actually. It has a nice dramatic vibe. Lyrics are definitely a bit ??? though.
    -BAD (5/10)-
    *5. Paumée sur terre (-.5, +1)*
    I was never a fan of this to begin with, and then this performance happened. I don’t know about you, but to me it just feels so…monotone. I don’t see any emotion. Song’s pretty bland too.
    *6. Hold On (-1.0, -2)*
    I don’t think this song is that bad, but it’s not good either.
    *7. Devil in the Detail (-.5, =)*
    I really did like the staging, but the song got worse for me so they cancelled each other out.
    I’ve grown to really hate the lyrics; they sound like a punk-rock parody or stereotype. “[Your promises] suck” is particularly egregious.
    *8. Believer (=, =)*
    Was bound to be here. I really have nothing to elaborate on.

    I think tali is the right approach. It will make the final most likely cause eurovision does eat this shit up. If the jury we saw is reflective of the jury at eurovision with the televote score, I belive that it is the right choice. I do like the french in it as well. Also in terms of the Luxembourgish music industry there really isn't much to say unfortunately.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому +2

      My thinking is that if more traditional female ballads like Bridges or Die Together came Top 10 in Eurovision, Drowning in the Rain absolutely could have too, especially after such a strong live performance. Fighter may qualify but I can't see it doing too well in the Grand Final, especially considering how stacked this year is shaping up to be.
      As for the Luxembourgish music industry, I've heard that they actually have a pretty decent scene and that some of the artists here (particularly CHAiLD and to a lesser extent Edsun) have great discographies outside of this NF. It's just that RTL didn't want to show them.

    same top 2 :D i do kinda wish that there was more stuff going on in both naomi and krick’s performances, they kinda just stood there while tali had a bunch of dancers and cool outfits and all that jazz. i still think krick should’ve won tho, fully expected the juries to eat it up

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому +1

      True about Naomi but I don't think Krick needed anything extra in her performance tbh. She was captivating enough on her own, and most people seemed to agree since she won the televote (albeit just barely).

    Imagine a country as competitive as Luxembourg coming back after all this time, and immediately failing to qualify

    • @JH3Eurovision

      I've only seen Luxembourg's entries from the 90s and the ones they won with, but from what I've heard from people that watched all the older Eurovisions, they weren't that great in most of older contests either...so I guess it would just be par for the course for them :P

    For me it's pretty clear that Luxembourg wanted to play it as safe as possible for the big return. The song doesn't really do anything wrong, but it is simply so generic, I think it will do quite good in Eurovision and maybe in the coming years Luxembourg will try to be more original.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому

      I've seen people say this whole "safe" thing (especially about Denmark) and I get the point but I don't agree with it. "Safe" is a good word for countries like Sweden where they have a formula that gets results and they stick to it. Meanwhile, most of the LSC songs would not qualify, especially in a televote-only semifinal. That's not really "safe"

    • @pn2360
      @pn2360 5 місяців тому +1

      ... surely krick was the safe option?? you can't really go wrong with female ballads, just ask amanda tenfjord and alika - you're probably gonna do really really well with the juries (these juries were a joke, i NEVER want to see international juries at national finals anyway but these guys were horrific)

    • @dudemitdemhut8562

      @@JH3Eurovision I mean these songs are well-produced pop songs, the winner song is a female pop song with a good live performance and a choreography, of course it lacks any originalty but that's basically copy pasting the succesful eurovision songs. You can never go wrong with well-produced polished female pop songs, since, especially in eurovision, there is always a big audience for that.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому

      @@dudemitdemhut8562 I think you definitely can go wrong with polished female pop songs...just ask Diljá :P
      Also, my point was that most of the other songs are the kind of thing Germany or Denmark would send; radio-friendly and competently made but not competitive for Eurovision. There's no way Luxembourg would've gone anywhere with a song like Believer or Hold On

    • @dudemitdemhut8562
      @dudemitdemhut8562 5 місяців тому

      @@JH3Eurovision I definitly agree on the fact, that most of these songs were lacking anything special or original. All of them were radio songs, but I still think that Krick or Tali have something in their performance, that works well at eurovision. And I mean, Dilja was pretty close to the final, the only thing, that was missing was a good staging, which Tali kinda has. It totally isn't my thing at all, but I do think it will be quite succesful at eurovision.

    It's results like these that really make me question the validity of international "juries". Sometimes, it feels like they're deliberately not picking the best choice in order to favor their own country's chances. There's simply no way 7 out of 8 "professional" jurors thought "Fighter" was a better package than "Drowning in the Rain". We've seen a similar scenario in Ireland where the international juries picked *literally* the worst entry in the selection.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm not gonna say the selection was rigged or anything but yeah, it's definitely weird. Sometimes juries are gonna jury :V

    • @pn2360
      @pn2360 5 місяців тому

      ... and i'm no expert necessarily, but surely the whole point of a NATIONAL final is for the NATIONAL people to pick the best song, not others?? like it's so bloody obvious that international juries will just try and mess things up for their own benefit - ireland were really damn lucky that they also had their own jury and their own public as well as the international jury, bcos the fact the international jury had the cheek to choose next in line says everything you need to know to be honest.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому

      @@pn2360 I'm not inherently against international juries but the voting system was just bad to begin with; namely, why were the juries voting in the superfinal??? Isn't the whole point of superfinals to let the public decide between 2 or 3 entries? I also found it very strange that they charged money for international online votes, I can't imagine actually paying for that lol.

  • @in_wino_veritas
    @in_wino_veritas 5 місяців тому +1

    Yeah, they treated the public vote like a 6th jury member, so let's see how this would play out for them in a televote only semi. And there'll be no France, no Belgium, no Netherlands, just Germany.

    • @JH3Eurovision
      @JH3Eurovision  5 місяців тому
