- I wasn't very invested in this selection, if I'm being honest...mostly because the one song that I really loved was never going to Eurovision in the first place (which, I mean, based, but that didn't exactly leave me much to work with lol). Then I watched the live performances and only felt strongly about 3 of them. Then it turned out that one of the only 2 songs that I actively disliked actually won. Yyyep.
I will say, though, that I find it very annoying that people are only complaining about UMK's voting system NOW just because they don't agree with the result. Same vibes as the people that complained about the jury in 2023 being the same ones that complained about the televote in 2022. At least TRY to be consistent :V

I watched this live with my sister :D
I will ABSOLUTELY be watching UMK again next year regardless of song quality. What an awesome national final. Everything was on point: the stage and stagings, the songs for the most part, the opening and interval acts, and the hosting!!! Seriously, I want Finland to win ASAP just so Benjamin and the other girls can host Eurovision.
The only bad thing is the results, which weren’t even that bad to me anyway. Overall, just a fantastic selection!
Here’s my thoughts!
*1. Glow (9/10)*
ROBBED. BURGLED. MURDERED. SET ON FIRE.
Seriously, how did this not make the top 3??? It’s so good.
*2. Dancing With Demons/No Rules (8/10; tie)*
I don’t usually tie entries, but I can’t figure out which should be above the other.
Dancing With Demons is really good to me; I get the “too safe” argument, but I do think it creates a nice atmosphere onstage, especially with the black and white filter.
No Rules didn’t really stick the landing for me. I still like the song, but the staging DEFINITELY felt like a “look how wacky I am” entry. I’m glad it won, but I can see it growing off me in the future.
*4. Paskana (7.5/10)*
This still doesn’t do much for me musically, but I would’ve loved it winning for the staging alone. It’s _genius._ I wouldn’t have known this if not for my sister, but I think the floating lightbulb represents racing thoughts, and the pulsing blue light represents impulsiveness. Plus, it looks stunning.
*5. Mania (6/10)*
Transposing the song to C# minor made the song a lot better; it just fits better with a song about drowning in emotions. The performance didn’t do much for me but I like the song a lot more.
*6. Kuori mua (4.5/10)*
Every time I think the song is gonna grow on me it just doesn’t. Something about it just annoys me and the staging did not help. I’m kinda glad it got last.
*7. Vox populi (4/10)*
You know, as awful as this song’s lyrics are, I wouldn’t have minded it winning for the staging alone. It’s HILARIOUS. Very few entries can make me bust out laughing but that one did it.

Also Click Boom! is now my favorite song of the season, Sanremo has some DAMN good songs in there. You should watch some
I've seen people say that Paskana's staging has a planetary theme to coincide with lyrics like "turn off the Sun", and to fit the overall idea of not being able to escape from reality and your own thoughts. I don't know what the "correct" meaning is but your sister is probably pretty close.
Sanremo is a rough one for me because my brain shuts off when selections have more than 20 songs (with some exceptions). I watched the superfinal last year but wasn't able to make it live this time. I'll still check some of the songs out, though.

The discourse around No Rules is already annoying and it hasn't even been a full day yet. It's almost as bad as the Let 3 discourse last time.
Let it be known that I don't trust people that unironically say "anyone who doesn't like this just hates fun". I love fun, my winner is literally Glow by Jesse Markin! What's fun if not that song? It's just such a lame way to handwave any criticism of a song you like.

In my opinion, "Vox Populi" had a pretty fun staging and I quite like the song. I agree that the message might seem questionable, but still it's a fun entry.
"Glow" also had a fun performance, I especially liked the last part of it.
My winners before the show were Cyan Kicks and they remained as them. I still very like the song and this staging was really cool, better than in 2022. I voted for them, but, sadly, it wasn't enough. Still I really want to see them in ESC, cause they rn are one of the artists, whi deserve it the most.
I like the studio version of "No Rules!", but this performance was cringey, like, even in shorts he looks strange, but please, keep them on at least. Henri also seemed out of tune.
They'll probably qualify, since semis are 100% televoting, but in the final juries are gonna tank them hard, so it'll probably get a result like Moldova 2022 or Croatia 2023.
I'm not sure how well Finland will do. To me, of all the wacky televote-friendly entries that we already have this year, this one easily stands out as the weakest; if one of those songs gets left behind in the semi, it would be this one.
We are not going to have too many differences on this one. Think we've split the songs more or less with a similar divide.
I might get mine up tomorrow though. Am quite tired from all the CNY food.
another selection i watched live. honest thoughts on your ranking:
7. i actually quite like the song 😭 however the staging was too static for a song as energetic and fast as this. i never learned what was up with their views but now since this song didn't win i don't particularly care.
6. it's not hitting as hard as it should be i fear. the song lacked power from the beginning and the staging was kinda messy to me.
5. the only thing i actually liked about this entry was that henri is a pretty good singer. and i agree about your comment - it's inauthentic. it's definitely gonna remain as one of my least favourites of the year.
4. this song was already nothing really special but i did quite like it. however the performance wasn't cohesive and it was a bunch of ideas thrown around failing to connect properly. kinda sad considering this would've looked good if they rehearsed it more.
3. the performance was really good and i love her confidence. i expected it to be bottom 3 primarly because of the lyrical content but either way this was a massive grower.
2. yeah.... i'm quite upset. i admit her vocals were pitchy at parts but i loved the staging, it was engaging but still minimalist. this was one of my fav songs of the season and i think it would be a nice change of pace for finland.
1. definitely one of the best performances! he took the best out of this song and love all the colors. the main problem to me is that i still think the song is too repetitive, but at least he made the last chorus quite energetic.
For the record I agree with you about Vox Populi, the performance was very flat and it would've been my last regardless of the lyrics lol.
I'm not as crazy about Paskana as many others but I do think Finland missed a massive opportunity here. In a year that already has a lot of wacky televote-friendly entries, Paskana would've stood out (although I actually don't think it would be a guaranteed qualifier considering how brutal SF1 is).
@@JH3Eurovision Genuine question, but how do we know for sure SF1 is going to be a tough semi? Literally only one third of songs have been released so far, it’s too early to name which semi is the stronger one.
@@Purple-dawn. Nah it's not too early, you can tell which is stronger pretty quickly. Same happened last year. You can primarily tell by which countries have their selections out (Croatia, Lithuania, Serbia etc.) and who the internally selected artists are, along with the countries that have yet to announce but generally have strong qualification track records (i.e. Australia and Azerbaijan). Combine all of that and you have a strong semi, assuming that all of the NF contenders actually win. Then compare that to SF2 which has much weaker selections and/or countries that tend to have trouble qualifying like Malta, Denmark, San Marino, Latvia, Albania etc.
@@JH3Eurovision Well yeah, but consider the amount of upsets that have happened so far. The odds have so far been wrong more times than they’ve been correct; the FIFTH place in Malta’s odds won, too. Anything can happen, it’s still too early.
@@Purple-dawn. I'm not even talking about odds (I don't think they matter most of the time), I'm talking about the amount of hype the artists are getting in their actual countries. This is why it was immediately obvious that Dons was gonna win in Latvia, for example.
Baby Lasagna has been getting a lot of hype in Croatia and Luktelk already has like 100k streams on Spotify (probably way more at this point) and topped the Lithuanian charts. 5MIINUST x Puuluup were arguably the biggest artists in Eesti Laul to begin with and they got an absolutely massive crowd reaction when they qualified. I can't see any of these three not winning unless one of them completely tanks live.
Well, to be honest, windows95mans song (allthough I really like it) wasn't the best, but the staging was amazing. Bit of backstory, me and my friends watched it together and we got pretty drunk during the course of it (because they all hate this thing) and then windows came on stage and it was just perfect. Maybe you need a bit less seriousness to enjoy this, I do agree about glow though, it was pretty underrated

@@JH3Eurovision I wasn't really aware that there are certain norms about humour xD. But seriously, I get what you mean, it does seem a little much and a little tryhard, but I personally am okay with that.
@@dudemitdemhut8562 Yeah, nothing wrong with liking it. I just hate that some fans are already being so unwilling to realize that not everyone finds this kind of thing funny (not talking about you)
@@JH3Eurovision Yeah I get that, it's just that many people are salty that paskana did not win and just hating on this for the sake of it. But that's eurovision I guess xD
pretty much agree on the winner, this style of humour is just never funny to me, and yeah it looks tryhard. the song isnt terrible but its meh
