His drumming on Grace is just incredible.
His playing on Grace was monumental... His touch live was a real eye opener too. Influential. Hard to believe that record was created 20+ f'n years... Whoa.
You're a special breed of musician Matt. Your drumming with Jeff was brilliantly musical. Your approach to the drums is more like a composer. Would love to see you jam with Michael and Mick again one day.

Excellent interview and very eye opening. Does anyone know if Mr. Johnson was the drummer on 'Forget Her' please? I just got into Jeff's music and love Matt's playing, but something about 'Forget Her' touches my on a very deep level...I can listen to it over and over...the drumming, as every instrument on the song, is simply amazing to me and follows what Matt talks about here to a T. I also read on Wikipedia or somewhere that Jeff didn't want to release it as a single. Very strange IMHO, as I consider it a masterpiece. Also gotta love his version of 'Alligator Wine'...Screamin' Jay would be very pleased!!

That distillation concept is what I try to aim always making music.
And when he says they were retarded, I know is a funny way to say, but think they were actually artists, nothing less.

I wouldn't categorize Jeff as a minimalist. I think what Matt's getting at is more that Jeff didn't want anything more than what was required, which for me is very important. :) Glad people are checking out this drummer he's one of my favourites :)

Loooove this drummer but please remove the loop behind, so irritating Vater!!
He is right about the air drumming, that stuff is no joke, the best drummers that deeply love their craft do it. It also gives you iron wrists' because of the lack of rebound.
