The fact that there's a whole cartoonish town around the rollercoaster is what gets me. It implies that there's a backstory that everyone in the town is blissfully "happy" because of this ride.
This is one hell of a bloody good ride. For anyone and everyone who is concerned about the safety of this ride after the 2015 Crash which was down to Human Error. I can assure you that this rollercoaster is now 100% perfectly safe to go on. As i have personally been on this at least 30 times since it opened in May 2013. 2 times before the crash and then 28 times AFTER the crash. I am still here alive and completely uninjured. That's because most roller coasters had 10 inversions (loops, corkscrews, etc) and the brief from Alton Towers to Gerstlauer (the manufacturer of the coaster) was to design 11 or more. They were intent on smashing the record for the most inversions - and they did.

Don’t know if it’s because of that incident, but The Smiler is one of the few rollercoasters that actually give me the chills. Something about it is quite unsettling but in a different way. That’s how you know it’s awesome though.
Even though this ride has a bad rep, you cannot deny it is one of the best advertised/themed coaster EVER. The only ride I know of that even comes close to a theme like this is Flight of Fear at Kings Island. Flight of fear is already in the X-Zone themed area. If a movie were to be made out of the Smiler, I think I know something cool for it. The Ministry of Joy was run by regular people, who were a bit over their heads when they created other rides like Oblivion. Some of these rides defied logic, which is when they began doing experiments. One of their experiments failed, releasing a toxic gas. This gas drove many of their scientists insane with some kind of happiness thing. They built the Smiler because of it. The Smiler is sentient. It has a mind. It has to assimilate minds to grow. To live. To spread. It takes a mind and fills it with illusions and a toxic gas. It plans to escape the park. All in an attempt to get people to worship it. The Wicker Man was built to keep the demon at bay. It keeps it down. Because of it being there, the effects of the Smiler’s gas are not permanent. If the Wicker Man were to be destroyed, the Smiler’s effect would be permanent. What’s worse is that it would be able to leave the park, and spread its curse. *He* needs to infect to grow. To live. *To spread.* And there’s a way I can write in the accident that happened in 2015. The Smiler couldn’t infect them. Somehow, they resisted the gas. It was angry, and tried to cause their deaths. Obviously, it was unsuccessful. But once *he* escapes, *h e* will hunt them. *And h e will consume them.* There’s a poster just outside of the Smiler, of some riders and the Smiler itself. I just went to Alton towers and I fucking loved it! The smiler is me and my dad’s favourite ride and honestly it deserves a film aswell as the nemesis as that has lore aswell :) the smiler was my first upside down rollercoaster it was my first and last ride on my Alton journey. -Me a satisfied smiler customer
An accident happened on the smiler: An empty cart on the smiler set off at 2pm. Soon after. A cart full of people set off, the empty cart stopped at the bottom of a loop, the other cart full of people collided into the empty cart. Two people sufferers minor injuries while two more were really hurt. The full cart’s riders nearly fractured their legs.
Safety systems did activate stopping the cart from moving as it detected another cart on the track but the engineers overided the safety as they found three carts waiting to go as they thought there were only three waiting when was being used as no one told them an extra cart has been added so they overided the safety when there was one launched with people one launched empty and three in waiting
