In this episode of Abbey’s Kitchen, I’m sharing some of my go-to baby and toddler snacks. I try to think of my snacks as like mini meals. All of these recipes I’m going to share with you today are super simple, easy for you to pack up, low mess and nutrient dense.
    Baby Protein Pancakes
To a food processor, combine iron fortified grain cereal, oat flour, cottage cheese, mashed banana, natural peanut butter, eggs, baking powder and cinnamon. Fold in some blueberries and pan fry until golden brown.
    Avocado Salmon Sandwiches
Mashing together avocado, no salt canned salmon and dill in a bowl. Spread on whole grain bread. Assemble the sandwiches and cut into fingers and then serve.
    Baby Friendly Snack Mix
Mix together quinoa puffs, freeze dried fruits and veggie snacks, whole grain cereal. Mix and serve.
    Homemade Hummus
To a food processor, I puree some tahini, water, olive oil, cumin, garlic, lemon juice. Process until smooth and serve with steamed carrots and peeled cucumbers.
I hope you enjoyed some of Baby E’s favourite snacks! For more tips on staying healthy, recipes, dieting, and information fit for consumption by foodies everywhere stop by Abbey’s blog.

Could you do a video talking about how to do intuitive eating when you have one or more of the following:
1: A addiction, like to sugar or junk food.
2: A condition that causes your senses/digestion to be thrown off. (like ulcer, pregnancy or even schizophrenia)
3: Tends to do emotional eating
It would be so helpful, I think, to many of your viewers. Also, every time I bring up intuitive eating people always just say that it sounds like an excuse to eat junk food all the time and I want to be able to answer something more educated than "Well, your body shouldn't be craving only burgers and pizza..." Love your videos. you are a light that shines bright in these confused and confusing times

I had similar issues for a long time, and i found that intuitive eating was not the first step i could take. I had to start my healthy eating journey by being really strict with myself and cutting out those problematic food entirely, and after i did that for a while i was able to transition to a more intuitive style because my body was no longer as addicted to those foods. It wasn't easy, but sometimes you have to recognize that certain things just dont work at certain points in life, as lovely as they may sound

Although I'm sure this probably doesn't apply to everyone, I realized my "addiction" to food was really just my body constantly craving junk food because I was restricting myself. Once I stopped restricting myself physically and emotionally, I could easily eat a more balanced diet. I'm still in the process, but I feel so much better now.

Could you do a video on appropriate portion sizes for toddlers? I usually let my toddler eat intuitively and she does great at communicating when she's full or wants more, but she's currently going through a phase.

Love these ideas! I don’t know if this falls under your purview but we’re struggling with eating a range of foods with my three year old who’s about to start preschool. He was a foodie as a baby but got more limited as a toddler - but manageable. And then I got pregnant again and developed severe hyperemisis gravadarium, extreme nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. I spent most of my pregnancy in the hospital and tried to hide the vomiting from him, but of course he saw it.
The result was that he saw me eat a really unhealthy diet (drs frequently recommend soda, for example, as the food and drinks you can keep down tend to be very sugary and it’s more import to eat and keep food down than not). He also saw me very sick and that combo lead to a really limited diet and a fear of eating anything new, different or textured.
I’m three months postpartum and still having stomach issues from the hg, so unfortunately I have to eat a liquid diet for now, and I’m still not able to model a balanced approach with a variety of foods. Though I do eat with him, cook with him and look for ways to expand his diet past goldfish.
But I’d soooo love some practical information from a professional about how to support my little guy back towards a diet filled with foods that give him energy and strength. Right now he crashes a lot since he eats a lot of empty carbs and I’m worried this is a pivotal time for shaping his taste buds and we’re missing it because we’re stuck feeding him such a limited selection.
We’re seeing a child psychologist to get some assistance around the emotional side of his fears of food after my illness, but practical nutritional info would really help too 😀🌮🥪🍙
Ps - also in Canada, where’d you get the freeze dried fruit and veggie snacks, never seen those....

I am always looking for things to feed my kids (16, 7 and 2). I have been fighting the youngest one on suppers as well because although he has all his teeth (for his age) he finds many grilled meats difficult to chew, and getting enough supper into him before bed is hard -- resulting in more frequent night waking and extra nursing in the night (yes, I KNOW... he's getting old for that))...
