    I couldn't agree more! ask questions, ask questions, ask questions! even if it is about the recovery time, it makes you look interested. if you follow this then you should be able to get a job. you don't have to be the best tech just the most ancious to learn. I've been to 2 clemical rotations so far and I've had a job offer from both by asking questions and being willing to learn.

  • @BehThulhu
    @BehThulhu 4 роки тому +11

    I had so many questions when I started my clinical rotations. My instructor told me not to ask questions or speak unless spoken to, but the surgeons and staff did not like that. They asked me why i was not talking and I told them why. So Now I have learned to ask questions always or ask if I can ask questions before the procedure begins.

      Wow your instructor told you that? That is extremely bad advice..

    Thank you SO MUCH! I'll be going out to clinicals in April and as soon as you started speaking I was like I agree 100% with what he's saying.
    And then you said the tip about I Know...oh my god. Couldn't be more true. I have taken it out of my vocabulary with my Observation and Lab teacher.
    Thanks a million!

    • @Anastasia-vo2gf
      @Anastasia-vo2gf 4 роки тому +8

      I don't take notes because while I am writing I am missing a lot because its distracting. But I remember everything well and write down key points after I turnover before opening the next case for later. Notes are situational and I hate it when people think you NEED to take notes.

      as a resident physician, i value techs so much, they're golden in the OR and they taught me a lot, just listen so much as to how they setup for the cases and be in tune with your surgeon and the whole situation, sometimes things are peaceful and sometimes things flip, just have good awareness of the situation and try to listen, this guy already gave great tips that benefit us all in the OR, take care, good luck!

    How long does externship usually last? And would you recommend job shadowing? I was thinking about job shadowing a surgical tech while attending college.

    I'm currently looking for a career change. Got my bachelors in business administration a few years ago but really always wanted to work in the medical field. Never knew about surgery tech. Wish I been knew because I would have saved me a lot of money. I this is something I would really like to do instead of nursing. Plan on starting in January with a 12 month program. Thanks for the vids.

I have gotten 100 on both exams so far, but can't decide between rad tech and ST. You're giving me great insight, so please keep making them! Thanks so much!

    I'm in the middle of my perioperative nursing theory course and everything I've read seems to state that talking should be kept to a minimum, do you feel there is there a limit to asking questions or certain time it is more appropriate during the case?

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  7 років тому +1

      +Jonathan Ramsay there is definitely a good time to talk, and a bad time to talk in surgery. You will know from how the case is going and body language of the surgeon whether or not it is a good time to talk.

    Hey what's your advice for a student Fresh out of school looking a job in a new state ?

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  7 років тому +4

      +Jessie Stewart Apply, apply, apply. Callback and check up on your applications, and take any position in the hospital possible is a tech position isn't available in your area right away. Having your foot in the door already working at a hospital works wonders. Having staff able to see your work ethic first hand is priceless.

    Just be real fam, as techs you will be treated like shit. You speak from being abused and mistreated. Techs shouldn't have feelings or emotions just do what your told stroke everyone else ego and go home.
