I lost my brother to an accidental overdose. I have AUD and have been addicted to amphetamine in the past as well as alcohol. I could easily be Jack. I've kept an alcohol diary every day for almost a year. For the past two weeks I have stablilized my drinking to 20 units per day. I now need to "taper off" ie 19 units then 18 etc until I get to 10 then I can safely go without. I have worked so hard delaying my drinking & reducing it. Steady exercise has helped and being part of a recovery group has helped a LOT.

as people helping or being involved with Addicts perants and spouses.
you need professional help and support to make the changes do interventions to safe Jack's life....
I must admit I'm very ignorant I'm learning about it now trusting professionals and accepting support to help me deal with this insidious illness.....mind body soul...I'm learning as I go. I'm ignorant however I have a willing spirit to learn how to help myself and addiction.

Yeah, I always wished his mom would try to get him on the A&E show intervention because he would've been the perfect person to go on that show. But I don't think she knew about it because she didn't have cable and I wasn't sure how to get people on the show other than by calling the 800 number they would sometimes show on screen, (I think.) TV shows like that didn't really recruit online as much, back then. Plus I don't think he would've agreed to get any kind of help, anyway. I was only like 16 or 17 at the time, so I didn't really feel like it was my place to discuss an issue with her like that, at that age. I remember her saying to my dad once, that people have to make the decision for themselves to get help and if they don't want it, there's really nothing you can do. That was after his first hospitalization. She had basically accepted the situation for what it was at that point.
