Your picking is just... some inexperienced "shredders" might look at this and be like, it's not even that fast, but to play it this cleanly with bach fingerings which aren't very guitar friendly often, and with the consistency of volume requiered for bach to sound right... Masterful technique!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 😀
WOW! Just AMAZING!! Keep them coming!!! Thanks!!!
This is such a fresh approach to Bach! Hammer-on/pull-off playing kinda has accents built in, and those accents are totally different from how people would articulate it conventionally, and gives it a modern, syncopated character. I love it!
So glad you picked up on how I articulated it! Thanks for listening!
Absolutely stunning. Sounds perfect on that guitar as well
So glad you liked it - I agree, this guitar makes it perfect
Always love it when you play Bach, Ben. So beautiful
Thanks Andreas!
Excellent!
Thanks Marvin!
Ben + Bach = Beauty
Thank you so much!
Pretty sure it's Bech, but okay
@@Returnality 😂
This is GREAT !!!!
Thanks for listening, Tony!
That was breathtaking…
Thank you so much!
@@beneunson Keep us inspired. :)
magnificent and moving
Thank you so much for listening!
Loved it!
You even included Bachs cavernous Cathedral like, lofty cool and windswept Alpine R-e-v-e-r-bbbbbbbbbbbb!
😊
Haha thanks Garry, that's absolutely right!
Something about your picking that perfectly blend with this partita ❤ love it Ben🎉
So glad you liked the picking! Thanks!
Love Bach. Loved your recording. Love the Partitas. I have a recording of violinist Hillary Hahn doing them and it’s one of my most listened to albums. When I was working on classical guitar, Bach was my favorite music to play. I was just starting on the d minor Chaconne when I had to quit.
Hillary Hahn's performance of the Sonatas and Partitas is absolutely brilliant. I have listened to it as well. Love the Chaconne as well
@@beneunson The Chaconne is one of my all time favorites. Just a brilliant piece of music. When I first heard it I had no idea it was just one violin. Okay, now I have to go listen to it. 🎻
Bach was a brilliant composer I'm sure he would have loved to hear you playing his music.
I really appreciate that, thank you!
Bach on a Jazz guitar with a jazzy sound and the reverb of a cathedral. Sounds amazing and inspiring too! Love your approach! As always, well done! Thanks for sharing! Cheers DimiZ
Always appreciate your support, thanks so much!
That was so amazing, I shut my eye and went to another planet for a moment. Just beautiful, great tone to.
So glad to hear it, thanks!
but you came Bach, right? ;-)
I want a whole record of this!!!
So glad to hear it!
Beautiful
Thank you for listening!
Awesome tone! Please play more pieces like this.
Glad you liked it! I will!
Beautiful work
Thank you for listening!
amazing: both, bach and your playing. greetings from leipzig, bach city
I really appreciate you listening, and yes - Bach is always mind-blowing!
@@beneunson he is and your playing and the seperation of the voices are outstanding. feels very multidimensional and modern.
So glad to hear you liked it, thanks again!
Amazing.
Thank you so much for listening!
Wow, that was awesome. Have you ever tried improvising in the baroque style? Ted Greene is the only person I've heard do it authentically on guitar, although I'm sure there are others. I know you could because your ears and knowledge of theory are so advanced. Beautiful playing, cheers.
Check out some “partimento”
@@wtumadremtupadre Thanks, I looked up partimento I'm enjoying it. But Ted Greene would improvise endlessly and didn't have any sketches in front of him to go off, just an amazing ear and lots and lots of practice and playing. He would even improvise in a baroque style using jazz standards. There's a popular video of him doing so with Autumn Leaves at a clinic at a music school.
Great question! I have tried, but never recorded it. I should try! Ted Greene was brilliant.
Spot on. Great performance
I really appreciate it, thanks for listening!
Incontheivable!
Thanks!
GREAT PLAYING & TONE!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really appreciate it, thank you!

Absolutely wonderful, I will learn this one day, I can only hope to play as magnificient as you.
Thank you so much for listening!
hermoso.
Thank you so much for listening!
Sweeeegeeezus..........!
Wow sounds cool with pick Ben. Beautifully executed (in a good way ) 😁
I love that AM-2000 video you did was excellent. Torn for a long time between AS AM and AF but I've decided to buy the Ibanez AF-2000 Artstar Prestige as I think it's the best option for me. Hope you approve Ben.
Thank you so much! The AF2000 is a beautiful guitar, I already know you'll love it!
@@beneunson Thanks Ben. Your endorsement of the AF2000 means a lot to me. Respect!
Uphhhhhh Wow…… great Signore….👏👏👏✨
Thanks for checking it out!
Ótima performance Ben !!
..brilhante a técnica e o sincronismo.

So good!
Thanks for listening!
Great Job Man.🎸🎶🎸
Thanks for listening!
Muito Bom
Thanks for listening!
Amazing. Wish I could do it like that.
I really appreciate it! I'm sure you can!
@@beneunson My reading is not as good as yours. Any suggestions?
I understand, you can always try learning it from the score in segments - for example, just 4 bars at a time. Or if you find guitar tab to be helpful, I have a transcription here: beneunson.com/products/violin-partita-no-1-in-b-minor-bwv-1002-viii-double 😀 Hope that helps, and thanks again for watching!
Reminds me some Paul Gilbert
Interesting use of slurs in the piece. Though it differs significantly from the Bach Violin Urtext Manuscript, it worked quite well on the guitar, and gave the Double a rather Jazzy feel. I'm curious about your choice to do that.
Thanks so much for listening! Yes you're quite right - I took some liberties with the articulation to accomodate a slightly more modern, legato approach on electric guitar.
amiga 5000
congrats and thanks; i have question for your sir re one of my passions which is Gregorian CHant and transposing some of my favourites to guitar; are you aware of anyone who has done this
Great question! I haven't heard anyone who has done that!
But can you play the same piece playing the chords and harmony like Segovia?
Thanks for listening! Segovia's performance of this piece is stunning, but I prefer the predominantly single-line nature of Bach's violin score. Maybe one day I'll learn Segovia's version 😀
He's even better than me--and I suck! :-0
I'm sure you sound great! Thanks for listening!
That was too fast. You could and did pull it off, but at a cost. A listener hears it for the first time and it's simply hard to absorb all those lines at this tempo. Besides, if you slowed down some, you'd be able to sink deeper into the music, so to speak.
However, you are truly impressive!
Fair input, thanks so much for watching!
@@beneunson You can take criticism very well, no wonder you are so good.
Though, actually, it is still a wonder. Very few people around with your kind of talent, whether they can take criticism or not.
Very kind, thanks again. I'm always open to input! I appreciate you listening.
I'm not actually up to scratch on my Bach scholarship, I do know that conventionally classical musicians tend to not heavily phrase rhythm-wise and rubato-wise Bach; there's enough musical texture, variation, harmony and melody in the lines themselves that adding the extra interpretative dimension can often distract from that. It's just a taste thing of course as to whether you like listening to this, music is subjective after all :D It's a good exercise to play both Bach like this, and also with more heavy phrasing and rubato - there's really an excess of options if you choose to do it with rubato! On Ben's performance, like other commenters have noted, the phrasing that Ben uses through legato fingerings is really interesting (since Bach isn't often played this way), and that's quite visible through a less Rubato interpretation. Personally for me playing these sorts of legato lines at a faster/steady tempo give this "waterfall of sound" effect :D
