I just did a performance test with the new update on my rig with a rtx 4090 nvidia graphics card with 32 cores. And I gotta admit I am surprised and impressed with the performance increase by a lot for myself. I run at 4k with pretty most setting maxed out, and before I came back to test this performance in the beta for the newest update I was pretty let down by performance as I since launch have barely reached 60 fps - despite not hating the rest of the game, the stuttering, flickering and everything performance wise was awful for me on my setup. But, now on the beta - 90-120 on a consistent basis throughout the New Atlantis, Mars, Space Combat, and even Space Station combat moment. I was going through enemies without having to stop due to previously experiences stutters, now it is smooth. Not sure if it will be more taxing on lower spec pcs, so results as per usual may vary quite a bit. But, I am satisfied by the performance thus far compared to the rest of my nearly 300 hours of game time with Starfield. Much better than the 70 fps on Fallout 4 with their new update. I will wait for Fallout 4 to get better with optimization and other fixes needed.

You have always been able to change your appearance ever since this game came out. One of the merchants does it. I forget which one but I did it once. Just not the traits.
Yeah the Shop you can go to is called Enhance! With the exclamation mark. But that is where you go to change your appearance.
Still no intelligent aliens but land vehicles is a plus.
