  • In Episode #44, we anchor in two different bays off Pickwick Lake, before starting down the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. We see some pelicans and have some nice quiet time, as well as a day of rainy, gusty weather.

    Thank you for watching! 😎

    Shout out to y'all and to Pivot and it's crew. I saw Pivot on the lake with you guys and I had to shout out to Ollie (&Jen &Elliot) and that Pivot.

      Hey Tammy, thanks for the shout out! Yes we were travelling at that time on the same waters as Pivot for a short while. Jen & Elliot are super nice and Ollie is such a cutie. Thanks for watching!😎

    I've been enjoying your travels on the great loop, Nice to see that you are staying ahead of the cold weather, (I'm watching from Regina Sask. Brrr.) I've also noticed that you are travelling about the same time as Scho and Jo, on Pivot, Amazing coincidence that yours' and theirs' are the two Great loop video adventures, that I follow!

      Thanks for following our journey and hopefully our videos can provide a virtual escape from the cold. We did meet Scho and Jo and they are a lovely young couple. We are enjoying watching their voyage into Canada. Thanks for your comment Andy!😎

    There is a lot of limestone all through the area making anchoring a challenge in some of those bays.

    I really liked the discussion about the troubles you had with the anchor. It was fun catching a glimpse of Pívot. We also follow their channel.

    5th times the charm! Good job with your persistence. Also that cruiser was cooking at 21 knots! Getting more south every day🌴

      Five times the charm.🤪😂 The anchor did hold but there was also little wind. It’s a bit unnerving when a large cruiser approaches at that speed and puts off an enormous wake. 😎

    Funny to look at when everyone posts their videos. Just finishing this one, and you had a shot of Pivot leaving a marina. That will probably be their next video, 11 months after yours!

      Yes they were the 1st channel with a lot of videos, and then Elliot hurt his hand, so glad they continued. Wasn't to sure about them to start, but kept watching because of Ollie!!! They do a good job and am looking forward to watching them complete the loop and their next adventure. @@staycool123

    That area seems so tranquil, hardly any other boat traffic... Which makes it a pleasure for traveling...... Not sure what you were baking but it looked good..... Wishing you safe travels and a great day..💖

      There was not much boat traffic along the rivers at that point… certainly feels more peaceful! I think that day I made potatoes, mushrooms, with chicken. Thanks so much for watching Karen!😎

      How deep Was that anchorage? How much chain on board?
      Recently bought a trawler. Novice.

    • @staycool123
      @staycool123  Рік тому

      If memory serves that anchorage was about 15 feet deep and we let out over 100 feet of chain. We have 200 feet on board. General rule of thumb is to let out about 7 times the depth, or more if high winds. Good luck with your new trawler and thanks for watching!😎

    Looks like you had a nice creise and a very successful stop at a marina. Keeping on top of maintenance is very smart. Scones are a regional thing as I had never heard of them until I went north. Regional foods are usually very good and treasured recipe. You will experience some cold/cool weather no matter how far south you go. Enjoy

      Hi Robert, thanks for your comment and glad you enjoy the videos. My equipment is very simple! I just use my iPhone for all the videos. On a boat there can be a lot of wind noise so I recently got a couple of lapel mic’s with mini dead cat covers (which I don’t use all the time). That’s it! Nothing fancy. 😎

    We'll be where you are later this year. Did you find that there was a particular time/place where it was good to be south and escape the snow and bad weather? We figure we'll be getting to Paducah around end of October or the first few days of November. Based on your recent experience, will we avoid freezing weather on that schedule?

    • @staycool123
      @staycool123  Рік тому +1

      Hi JJ P3, this year may have been unusual with a cold snap reaching quite far south. Green Turtle Bay had snow in November and it was below freezing at night in December as far reaching as Mobile. One of the problems with cold is the marinas start turning off their water supply. From what we understand, most loopers are down around Mobile in November/December but this can vary.😎

      @@staycool123 sadly the locks from Chicago won't reopen until October 1st making it a mad-rush to get south before everything freezes. It looks like I'm going to spend 25% of my fuel budget in an area where I won't get to stop and enjoy the area much.

    • @staycool123
      @staycool123  Рік тому +1

      Yes we heard about the planned lock closures for 2023. In 2022, we had lock closures too but the locks actually opened earlier than expected so maybe they will fit you too! Going down the rivers in the fall is very pretty with the tree colours. Just bring some warm clothes!😎
