Enjoyed the video, thanks for taking us along ! Good music selection. Glad you got to experience some wind and the boat heeling. It takes on a new character when the engine is off. Ah, maybe should have killed the music at the point the sails take over. Liked the rain at the end, would have liked more natural sounds earlier. You have so many beautiful natural locations near you !
Glad you enjoyed this episode Alex. Desolation Sound truly is a stunning area for boating! Thanks so much for watching😎
Wow, what an adventure for you! And guess what - we sold our home and headed to Parksville/Qualicum area - too - yippee!!! Looking forward to our new life in that area!!!
There is some fantastic boating on Canada’s west coast. Congrats on selling your home and all the best with your move to Oceanside. Thanks so much for watching😎
Hi , some nice boats from Finland. Other nice boats from Scaninavia , Sweden : Qarken and Nimbus. Norway : Saga , NB , Viknes , Viksund . Like your videos. Greetings from boater in Norway .
Glad you enjoyed the boat tours. It’s really interesting to see the variety of boat designs. We would love to visit Norway one day! Thanks so much for watching😎
Very nice video can't wait to it
Thanks Mike and all best in your boat trip planning! Thanks for watching😎
Nice quiet location, water so clear, beautiful images. Looked like everyone on the water was enjoying a relaxed weekend. Need a bit more wind to experience sailing at its best.
You’re right about the wind. We get some higher winds for faster sailing in the next episode. Thanks so much for watching Alex😎
Great to meet you here! We moved here too! Love it! Everything you share, we have experienced too! And we love love love our garden too! We moved to Parksville in December/24 and we just love it, still getting to know the island and its wonderful lifestyle - we live just off the main close to downtown and love our little house and garden. Have you tried Golden Raspberries? Love the corn here, Errington Grows Sweet Corn
Thank you for sharing your experience and welcome to Parksville! There is so much to see here on Vancouver Island! The corn is delicious and we grow our own raspberries. We have not yet tried golden raspberries. Thanks so much for watching😎
I LuVVVVV Canadians !!! You people are sooo nice and polite and Grrrr8888 natured it's refreshing and instills hope for humanity !!! I aLLLLso would like to applaud you for your video editing and filming skiLLsz !!! It's nice to watch videos which are MORE focused on the the subject matter at hand rather than the producers faces !!! I mean isn't THAT kind of the point ??? Too many use "click bait" to lure viewers and end up being somewhat narcissistic in the direction of where the camera is being pointed !!! You are refreshingly noTTT of that mindset !!! THANK YOU !!! I bought my first house in Bellingham and have spent a lot of time in B.C. skiing and camping and just LuVVV it there !!! I have even often asked myself if maybe I should have searched for a bride up there (dual citizenship ya know) !!! LOL I was in the U.S. Coast Guard for 2 years on the bouy tender USCG Planetree stationed in Juneau Alaska. I also spent 18 years on tugboats for Foss maritime ,which allowed me to make numerous trips up and down the inside passage !!! TrUUUly "God's country" !!! You Canadians are sOOOO lucky !!! Annnyways , Xxxcelent videos , keep up the GuDDD work and have a Grrrr8888 day eh !!! And as Bob and Doug McKenzie might say.........Time for a Beer Hosiers !!!
Todd, we just love your enthusiasm! 😍You have such an interesting past and your love for life is evident in your detailed comment. You are right that boating in this area is truly extraordinary and we can’t wait to travel the inside passage. We hope you’re having a great day! And thanks so much for watching eh?!😎
Glad to see you out on the water again!!❤
Thanks Lesli! Desolation Sound truly is a beautiful area for boating. Thanks for watching😎
Love the dolphins!!
Dolphins are very social and so much fun! Thanks for watching Ruth😎

Thanks for watching😎
Awesome squared
Thanks Tom. Desolation Sound really is a stunning place to boat.🤩 Thanks for watching😎

Thanks for watching😎
I want to do some boat show this fall as well. Was not aware of the Sidney boat show. I like the Nordic Tugs, Nordhavn & Fleming which I can’t afford 🧐. I feel I am looking at 38 to 43’ . Thanks for your conversation.
A lot of boat shows occur in winter or early spring. That was our first time at the Sidney Boat Show at it was quite good. Boat shows in the USA are usually quite big. We attended one in Annapolis which showcased a lot of boats. We also like Nordic Tug, Nordavn & Fleming… one can dream! Happy boat hunting and thanks for watching!😎
Watched your podcast tonight & looking at boats myself. I feel we are in the same price range, don’t want to sell my home to buy a boat 🧐🤔
It seems more of a risk to sell your house to buy a boat. And even if you live on your boat a lot, it’s nice to have a homebase as somewhere to return if you become ill or injured. To get more ideas, you might like some of our other videos in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL2kolAzASgqGOG2AEKVn5vaCaYLCV0898.html&si=7dlbhrYHOsyYYtNA Thanks so much for watching😎

Hey there! Y'all were so helpful in our Loop planning - thanks again for all the great videos! In one episode Malcolm installed a holding tank external sensor strip. We are having similar issues and wondered if you'd share the brand and where you got those parts. And what episode it was so we can rewatch it! Thanks! Susan & Bill on Soul Shine.
Glad to hear the videos were actually helpful! I’m this episode: ua-cam.com/video/0mDRZ9SvXtI/v-deo.htmlsi=NYS_-yNYXrP04X0X we share some boat projects including a custom black water tank monitor. Being a clever computer geek, Malcolm fashioned something using Arduino parts and contactless sensors so it’s not an “off-the-shelf” solution. It worked reasonably well but even it had its own challenges! Thanks so much for watching😎
Awesome
Thanks for watching Tom😎
I don't think we can accept you quite yet as full patch members of the Island until you prove yourselves worthy by showing us how to properly make Nanaimo Bars! Maybe a Christmas Episode? 🙏 Hint: Store bought ratios are off. 🎅🧑🎄👍👍🧑🎄🎅
Fair point! Challenge accepted👍🏻
That's awesome! I look forward to the video!❤
Very enjoyable section of the dolphins I am wondering if you bought a new boat as of yet Enjoy your marine videos Your friend Scott in Langford
It sure was fun to watch the dolphins! We are keeping our eye on the boat market and hoping to find the right vessel soon. Thanks for watching Scott😎
I moved here 30 years ago with my husband and two baby girls and then had a son at NRGH. WE were happy to raise our family here, saved money and bought a house. And even in the 90s it cost much more than Saskatoon, where we moved from. Im happy to say Im now retired here and always glad to see fellow retirees here. Just found your channel and will enjoy following you although I'm sure I've been to many places. Great video.
Thanks for sharing your story. This is a wonderful place to retire. Thanks for watching😎
Looks great... Notwithstanding BC waters look like Norway... Way to cold even in the Summer...! Fair Winds...
Thanks Geezenslaw! These waters can be pretty cold too, however Desolation Sound is at the point where the tide converges and with dry, sunny summers (July/August), the water temperatures can get up to the low 20s Celcius, making it more enjoyable to swim! Thanks so much for watching and happy sailing!😎
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching Jeff😎
Nice trip , beautiful location and weather ! Your sailboat seemed to be moving along nicely under power, nowhere as fast as your Mainship though. Hope you get some wind and experience some sailing.
You got that right Alex! Such a beautiful area for boating. Surprisingly the sailboat motored along at 7 or 8 knots, about the same as Stay Cool. The shape of the hull is very different. Yes we did find a bit of wind during our trip which we will share. Thanks so much for watching😎
Beautiful craft! Nice to see part 1 of the adventure, looking forward to more.
It’s like the sailing version of Stay Cool! Thank you for watching Ruth 😎
How exciting - Ive been waiting for this video. Can't wait for #2!
Thanks so much for watching True Blue! We’re excited too😎
So exciting to get out on BC waters!
It certainly is! The scenery is spectacular and there is so much to explore. Thanks for watching Elaine😎
You went right past my house - where the four concrete pillars are in the water on your port (south) side. My house is gray with a green metal roof. I enjoy your videos.
That’s cool! Thank you for sharing… we enjoyed our cruise along the Ottawa River. Thanks so much for watching Bronwen😎
Nice video! keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching!😎
Did your high/low salon table ride okay in rougher conditions? Thanks! Excellent review.
Hi Kathy, the adjustable salon table was fine most of the time because the base is quite heavy. Typically we attempted to avoid heavier beam seas, but it could tip over like in this episode: ua-cam.com/video/RT9YR8DrJVo/v-deo.htmlsi=RRvXJAkMyLrSL7pZ Thanks for watching!😎
@@staycool123 Thanks Rachel. We have a 2001 Mainship 390 in S. California. I never felt comfortable with the heavy table, but it is beautiful. Absolutely love the solar array. Brilliant. You two are an awesome team. I subscribed and look forward following you in your next adventure. All the best, K
Thanks so much Kathy for your positive feedback and encouragement. Happy boating in South California… we are both west coastees!😎
BC Ferries go to West Vancouver and Tsawassen
That’s correct! BC Ferries offer walk-on and car transport between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay as well as between Tsawassen and Duke Point. For walk-on passengers, the Hullo Ferry offers a nice option to get right downtown. Thanks for watching Wendy!😎
Thanks for all the tips. Looking to start in 2025. What did you use for camera(s) and obviously a drone. I noticed microphones in the last videos again what did you use? Thanks and your wife did a great job on putting the adventure together on UA-cam.
Hi Brian, I (Rachel) simply use my iPhone SE for all the videos. I just got some cheap lapel microphones from Amazon. Malcolm is the drone pilot using our DJI Mavic Air. We try to be respectful of flying rules including avoiding airspace near airports, not flying them in Federal or Provincial parks (includes locks), and simply respecting others’ privacy. Good luck in your upcoming adventure! We appreciate your kind comments and thanks for watching😎
Hi from Newboro have a great trip!
Thank you Cathy! Newboro is great… you even have a pickleball court.👍🏻 Thanks so much for watching😎
The bridge makes the sunset even better. What a masterpiece....
The bridge is huge and the sunrise was beautiful.😎 Thanks so much for watching!
Wow, in awe of the range of produce from your garden. Looks so neat, testament to your planning and effort. I was actually surprised at how little damage from birds, pests and fungus. Especially nice to see bees and eagle. Congrats!
Thanks so much Alex! We are learning as we go and enjoying the process. Thanks for watching this episode😎
You captured our sailboat perched on the rock just south of Hotel Kenny. Hope you had a great trip.
That’s cool you saw your boat in our video!😎 We had a fabulous trip. The Rideau Canal is one of our favourite waterways. Thanks for watching!
you didn't see any floating blue barrels did you? police are still looking for Drew Petersen's wife at 12:43 is area where they looked for months.
No blue barrels were seen. We traversed this area 2-years ago.
4:50 union job so he or she is prob. on union break
Thanks for watching
Nice garden - well done! Amazing succession planting!! We just planted some lettuce seeds in our garden - we have greens throughout the day! Very nice raised beds - we do the same! Our beets didn't grow that much - probably too much heat too! Amazing you don't have to cover your kale - ours get chewed by flea beetles so we have to cover. Another big pest for us are grasshoppers!!! We grow Blueberries as a commercial crop - we have about 2 acres and we love them alot and sell out every year - so full of good fiber! Thank you again for sharing!!! We still have our home up for sale and hoping we can sell to move to the Island as well!
Sounds like your garden is growing well.👍🏻 It’s interesting to learn which birds and pests come to visit and feed! We just love the blueberries! Thanks so much for watching😎
as others mentioned , its the flow , banter , and mutual knowledge you BOTH contribute , that makes this engaging and watchable. Do you prepare for these Videos with cue sheets and talking points. You are great Hosts/Co-host to each other. thanks !!!
Thanks so much for your kind words Larry! We prepare with a brief outline, so we don’t forget each point and then mostly we as lib. We appreciate your feedback and thanks so much for watching😎
These cutwater are virtually identical to the ranger tugs.
You’re right Albert! They are both owned by Fluid Motion so not surprising there are similarities. Thanks for watching😎
Do you have any information on the brand or manufacturer of your dinghy rack? I really like the way it operates based on the footage in this video. Seems easier to use than the pull-on lifts.
Our dinghy davit system is the Hurley H3O davit system with a manual winch. Alternatively you can get an electric winch. It’s very simple and easy to use. The only downside is you must launch the dinghy to use the swim platform. Thanks for watching😎
Royal Engineers, a British Army Corps, not a corporation :) You sailed right past my house on the lower reach. I love it here in Smiths Falls. I've enjoyed seeing the route up from Merrickville to Perth from your point of view.
So glad you enjoyed this episode! We just love the Rideau Canal. Thanks so much for watching 😎
Great video … thanks for the educational value here
You’re welcome and thanks so much for watching 😎
The word is “OPENING” not “OPENABLE” windows!
Hmmm, we haven’t heard that before, so just had to check the dictionary (Oxford and Cambridge dictionaries)…‘openable’ means ‘capable of being opened’. Thanks for watching 😎
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the sandcastles through your eyes. The Guardian Angel was quite stunning. Lots of great works of art. Thanks for your creation!
Glad you enjoyed it Ruth! It’s amazing what the sculptors can create with just sand and water. Thanks for watching😎
😢Classic is a Aftcabin total.
Ours was labelled ‘Classic’ but it had no aft cabin. It’s a mystery! Thanks for watching😎
This brings back some very fond memories of earlier times with cottage property at the Beveridge's Locks and many Motorhome trips around the waterways of Perth and Smiths Falls. Thank You so much for the visual. Great times.
Glad you enjoyed it Barry! It’s a beautiful area with lots of memories for us too. Thanks for watching😎
I live in Chambly and just found your video. It was very enjoyable, you took some good shots of Chambly. Living in Chambly, we take it for granted, but you have shown that it is really quite a nice place to live. I will have to find the rest of your videos.
Chambly is a lovely, quaint town and we enjoyed our visit there. It’s definitely unique to arrive by boat! Thanks so much for watching Wendi.😎
Great video guys...interesting to see how far things have come.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much for watching.😎
So Malcolm, do you just plug the shorepower plug into the bluetti to power everything or do you need to run extension cords to the bluetti for fridge, microwave etc?
Primarily we used solar to charge the Bluetti. A transfer switch should be installed to connect the Bluetti directly into the boat’s AC systems. Thanks for watching.😊
