To get rid of scan lines, change picture mode, also the fastest overdrive mode is standard 0% ghosting 0% error rate, 90 percent in window 2.4 ms avarage transition. This panel is faster then anything out there including TN, IPS & VA panels, the only exception is OLED, Zowe dayac + and one other IPS panel
very late response but yes. standard is the best for this monitor, ive seen multiple tests and all point to standard being the all round safest and actually best performing option.@@silkytekkerz5791
Since this is the top comment about this issue I will post here what solved the scanline problem for me, this was posted by FerreiraM32 on the Rtings page of this monitor. Hi. I have done extensive testing with my G6’s settings and my colorimeter over the last year and i recommend the following: In SDR: Brightness: 11 (this is what i need to get the 100 cd/m², but you can adjust to your personal preference). Local dimming: Off (doesn’t work well in SDR, raises black level and creates blooming and flickering). Color Space: Auto (this will lock the color gamut pretty close to the sRGB, making colors not look oversaturated while not in HDR). Gamma: BT.1886 +2 (this actually makes my monitor closer to the 2.2 gamma curve than the “2.2” option itself, but i don’t know if this varies between units, you can keep it at the default setting if you want). Response time: standard. Adaptive Sync and VRR Control: on I strongly recommend you DON’T change anything else, specially white balance, since the varies a lot between units. My G6 has a completely different calibration setting from RTing’s review unit, and i was able to calibrate the white balance and the 6-axis only because i have a colorimeter. Leave anything not mentioned above at default. Dynamic contrast, shadow detail, dynamic brightness, anything with “dynamic” or “enhanced” in its name turned off or at 0 value. In HDR: Brightness: max (required to achieve the peak brightness) Local dimming: Standard (required to achieve the peak brightness, but “High” raises the black level by a lot). Color Space: Native (to unlock the full wide color gamut of the display. Anything else: default. Don’t copy the calibration settings or the ICC profile from RTings or anybody else. They don’t apply to every unit.
Ive had this monitor for a few months now and im very happy with it. I got it for my PS5. When i first got it out of the box and set it up,it looked really bad! The colours were saturated,too bright and too dark,messed about in the settings but it looked awful. Even though it has HDMI 2.1 it didnt support VRR! After some research,i learned that you have to download the latest firmware 1520.9 and put it on a USB stick, then insert it into one of the USB ports in the monitor. Did all that,went to the support option in the settings menu and clicked on update software,it then showed me the USB and i clicked on that, then the rest was automatic. The new firmware fixed all the issues including VRR and the colours were much better optimised. I then proceeded to mess around and tinker with the settings for the next 2 days,testing with multiple diffrent games until i could figure out how it all worked, and make it look as nice as possible. When it comes to PS4 games,if its running at 30 fps then its gonna look really bad very sticky,you can kind of fix this with the game motion plus option, which adds a bit of input lag but its not noticeable if youre gonna play a RPG! 60 fps games look great . The game mode setting has a faster and extreme option for input lag,i like using extreme,it really does make a difference. My PS5 is running at 1440p HDR VRR ALLM. HDR was a bit long to get right but i managed to get a nice vibramt picture in the end. Im very happy with my G65b,,i can play my FPS games at 120fps with 1440p im lovin it. I recommend this if anyones thinking of buying. The only downside is the set up,too many hoops to jump through just to get it right. Its great for PS5!! Same I bought this monitor but I’ve had a ton of issues. A lot of scan lines and some weird sort of screen tear that moves vertically down the screen. Any issues like this for you?

@@CZYK- I'm having that same exact line that moves down the screen, I've not been able to find anyone else with that issue. A temporary fix I found is turning game mode on and off, then back on. I believe we got defective models.
@@OwtaCtrl Damn man. I actually found one reddit thread where the user described the issue perfectly. So that brings the total count to 3 of people that I've seen having this issue. It's extremely unacceptable that a $700 display is having these types of issues. I've already returned mine. I ended up dropping $900 on the new Benq 1440p 240hz display. I think this will be well worth the additional capital.
I got mine absolutely amazed 32 inch amazing 2K monitor 10 bits, HDR 603 nits , Speakers, WIFI, Bluetooth 5.2 , 2X USB 3.0, LAN, Remote controller Jesus what more you want Considering LG Nano IPS panel this Samsung also has 1.0 Billion colours and it's not G Sync certified but also works ! Would it buy it again 100% DEFINITELY over LG Nano IPS !
To remove scanlines make sure g sync is disabled and have game mode enabled with vrr control on. Next in nvidia control panel create a custom resolution to 2k 165hz.
Can you enable and disable G Snyc in the Monitors OS? Will I have the same Problem with a PS5 which doesn’t have any kind of „digital VRR“ but only HDMI 2.1 VRR.?
@@derhensler no you cannot turn on G sync on with the actual monitor OS you have to do it in the Nvidia control panel but also make sure you have VRR control on in the monitor os so it doesn’t flicker with it on. Also g sync and vrr on the ps5 are the same thing but vrr is only turned on when a game is launched on the ps5.

The Samsung Odyssey G6 is way better and the remote is a game changer for me as I hate having to find the buttons on my monitor and having to navigate the settings etc.. I play Apex legends mostly. From time to time CSGO, Diablo 3 and 4, COD. I usually use it for movies and UA-cam. Pretty much a smart TV.
The effort and information on your review is really impressive! Great work! Only thing I would add in the future is how you feel about 60Hz and 120Hz input latency.That's also important for a lot of gamers out there with mid-range setups that can't really reach super high refresh rates while compromising on how the game looks. @@mattpotter9218 I only got this monitor as I purchased a Alienware 34 inch and my ps5 wouldn’t display the full screen. I had 2 large black bars running across the bottom and top of the display.
Idk how this worked but I elemininated my scanlines while using the Windows HDR (VRR off) and then turning the refesch rate down to 120hz. It still works after turning off HDR, I even turned back to 240hz and back to 120hz because I wasnt sure but this eleminated my scanlines somehow. Im not sure if this would help anyone but it could @Type-C Tech Reviews .
just got this monitor because of your review and i am so overwhelmingly impressed with the products quality for price everything worked as anticipated straight out of the box with minimal setup - the remote is kinda cool too the only downside i have to note so far is two things, you have to use an adapter to use a vesa mount and it does not seem the best (not most peoples use-case to have their own mount) and secondly the only option for 1 displayport input (which again for my use-case because i use a dock for my work pc ~ again super tiny niche use-case)
You and Linus both swear there are scan lines. I have extremely good eyesight, and the G65B running @ 240 Hz (sometimes 120) in 2560 x 1440 and have absolutely zero scan lines. I do not run it in Game Mode. I found that I was able to tweak the settings to look better without Game Mode, no ghosting, no scan lines, great contrast ratios. I'm super pleased.

watching this review on the 27inch screen :D You kinda got me to buy this to be honest. Got it through a staff discount for £390 :D :D Everything really pops once you use the windows 11 auto HDR and windows HDR calibration tool. I tried GPU setting etc but the windows 11 and the tool smashed it. Even games look far far superior in HDR auto than it ever did on my windows 10 setup. This screen actually made me update to windows 11 :D Ive pulled 607 nits on this btw :D Got the screen running on a radeon 6800 and it looks amazing. Most of your screen settings them selfs where helpful. Highly recommend auto HDR and HDR calibration tool if your using windows. I think most fun ive had with it so far is playing apex legends at 240hz. Games so well made now that my setup can really test this monitor. Oh and I also dont see scanlines anymore. Not sure if windows stuff fixed it for me or my GPU settings but their gone.
I preferred to buy the Alienware AW2724DM over this one, the design of the samsung odyssey was too exaggerated, it bothered me a lot ...my setup is minimalist without too much rgb, I hope I don't regret it The Brazilian market is overrun with low quality white label monitors ,it's hard to find good options around here
I got this monitor a few lonths back. I was concerned about the curve being a bit too I tense coming from a 1500R. Everything about this monitor is amazing. I was blown away. The color out of the box doesn’t look great and need to be fine tuned Of course but once you dial it in, it looks marvelous.
Great review but I have two questions. 1. The recommended settings for the HDR and the display mode, dothey apply to the 27 inch version? 2. Between this one and dell Alienware aw2723df which one would you recommend?
Scanlines is a deal breaker for me, it seems every one of these monitor series whether its the G6, G7, G8, G9 and with the NEO variants all has them... I have eyes for detail, and when I notice them, I can never un-notice them. It seems with their upcoming OLED variants for their G8 and G9, they have rectified this scanline issue. Seems to be limitation with their VA panels and glad I didn't decide to buy any of them, because if I am spending big money, I expect the screen to be flawless, which means no scanlines, no dead/stuck/bright pixels, no flickering, no OSD software bugs, etc ,etc...
This just seems like a refresh of the original G7, and a lower price. That's not a bad thing, but I don't get why they won't release a 21:9 version of this VA panel. They have the 32:9 G9 using this same panel tech, but the only 21:9 monitor that Samsung offers that isn't an OLED is the G5 which is using old garbage VA with horrible smearing and slow response times. Why?

I have a Samsung Odyssey G7 that i had to send to RMA and now i have to take a decision between getting a refund or accepting a G6 in exchange for the G7, because they don't have the G7 in stock anymore nor the parts for repairing my G7. I have been gathering all the information i can about the G6 since yesterday and i decided i'm gonna go with it.
@@matheus8019 Samsung has some horrible QC issues, I got my G6 and it has a weird line of screen tearing and flashing pixels that trails down the monitor periodically

I dont understand your "samsung va panel, oh boy" statement, except for extreme low end like the g3 samsung has a great track record for panels and are typically the best VA panels you can get
@@StormyMainShorts Are you sure you have the VA version, there’s a G55A with the VA panel and a G50A with a much faster IPS panel. The VA version is known for its poor motion handling

I've owned this monitor for a few months now and play on both pc and ps5. At first it wasn't fully compatible with the ps5 even though it has hdmi 2.1 and im happy to say a few updates later this monitor is now fully compatible with the ps5.

I have one small annoying problem with this monitor. I often like to adjust the brightness, but it is hidden in expert settings. This means that I have to get there every single time and it takes quite a lot of time. Is there any kind of a shortcut to do that?
For people bothered by this, you can set up the voice guide. When you press the microphone button on the remote, just say "Brightness" and the slider will show up.
Thanks for the excellent review. I puchaed this monitor yesterday however my Game HDR menu option is greyed out. I've tried toggling other settings (eg: HDR in Windows, refresh rate, VRR, etc.) in case one or more affects whether Game HDR is available but I've had no luck. I am torn between LG GQ850 and this Samsung. LG supposedly has better HDR experience. HDR600 and higher brightness 450. But i do love curved screen. And LG is not curved :( There is also difference of LG being IPS and Samsung VA. I really wish i could see side by side comparison..Samsung is also 100euro cheaper at the moment of writing , not that it matters much.
I just bought this exact monitor G65B because it has HDMI 2.1 @1440p I tried to turn on VRR on my PS5 but it says: VRR is not supported by your screen? Does anyone know why this doenst work? Because i was pretty sure that VRR is only available with HDMI 2.1 and thats what this screen has. Thanks!

I've spoken to Samsung and they say there's no such thing and the only way VRR will work is to plug the monitor into a graphics card GPU which isn't possible with PS5. 4k runs at a slower hertz then 1440p, so the smoothest of the video maybe noticeable but the seeing it before you do in first person shooters will be missing (the faster the hertz, the faster you can see your opponent, that's why everyone always thinks PC players are cheating...lol). And not to mention distance from the screen. If you have the graphic power, go for it. If you tired of getting beamed on COD, don't... lol
Seems like we'll have the swansong of VA panels in the monitor segment not too far in the future. This looks pretty good, with the exception of the prices and the scanlines, I definitely get annoyed when I see those things in a brand new monitor.
I’ve got the same monitor yesterday and it’s great. The only complain I have is that for some reason my taskbar apps look low res. I’ve tried changing setting on windows 11 and I’ve also tried on the monitor and I’m still having that problem which I didn’t with my other 2K 240Hz monitor. Anyone know the solution please? Thanks.

I really wish you would have included your HDR calcibration settings. I have this in HDR mode and everything is so damn washed out. The white are brutally bright and drowning out everything else. Looks absolutely awful and I can't get any of the settings to look right.
I don't really care about the OS. However, I want to buy a 240hz 1440p panel (which is not TN) and thank to some price drop in a local shop this is currently the cheapest option (well cheapest if I don't count bad panels). Is it still worth it?

My g6 does not see the computer after automatically turning off the monitor after the selected time in windows, and only when you restart the computer does the monitor see the PC again. Does everyone have it?

It's kinda weird i've bought 27' (i send it back because got problems with response time during gaming, fast & really fast settings caused white streaks on Cyberpunk 2077, I didnt test any other game) & 32'. And my 32' has scanlines in everything ([the 27' had some but it was less strong and therefore I was not as attentive]) videos, games, web page, with white, orange, blue colors & and other colors that I haven't paid attention to yet. But only with my gaming compute ( Display port to DP on graphic card with samsung DP or other DP cable is same result). And i've tried same with my work laptop (hdmi to usb c) and QHD 60/X/120hz(maximum), has no scanlines at all, its really weird. I dont know how is it possible. I didnt try HDMI to HDMI on my gaming computer but i want to stay 240hz. If someone has a solution in the settings to make scan lines disappear, dont hesitate to tell me. I have the impression that on the 32 inch the scan lines are definitely more present. It's really weird. It's not unpleasant but the screen must be really far from more than 80 cm I think,to stop paying attention. & Happy new year ;)
Is there a reason why I don't have the "Game" option on my Odyssey LS27BG650EUXEN? Is it because it's in Europe? 18:18 the "Game" you see on the screen between Workspace and Media.

I dont know why but everything is to dark... I did everything but if im in shadows its to dark and I cant see anything (Minecraft on PS5. I cant go mining because of that problem...)
It works pwefectly on xbox though but it does not support vrr on ps5 actully try game mode off it gives better resolution and hdr its a software problem i heard if you update the monitor it would unlock its true potential

The Samsung Odyssey G6 is way better and the remote is a game changer for me as I hate having to find the buttons on my monitor and having to navigate the settings etc.. I play Apex legends mostly. From time to time CSGO, Diablo 3 and 4, COD. I usually use it for movies and UA-cam. Pretty much a smart TV.

The effort and information on your review is really impressive! Great work! Only thing I would add in the future is how you feel about 60Hz and 120Hz input latency.That's also important for a lot of gamers out there with mid-range setups that can't really reach super high refresh rates while compromising on how the game looks.

Idk how this worked but I elemininated my scanlines while using the Windows HDR (VRR off) and then turning the refesch rate down to 120hz. It still works after turning off HDR, I even turned back to 240hz and back to 120hz because I wasnt sure but this eleminated my scanlines somehow. Im not sure if this would help anyone but it could @Type-C Tech Reviews .
just got this monitor because of your review and i am so overwhelmingly impressed with the products quality for price
everything worked as anticipated straight out of the box with minimal setup - the remote is kinda cool too
the only downside i have to note so far is two things, you have to use an adapter to use a vesa mount and it does not seem the best (not most peoples use-case to have their own mount)
and secondly the only option for 1 displayport input (which again for my use-case because i use a dock for my work pc ~ again super tiny niche use-case)

You and Linus both swear there are scan lines. I have extremely good eyesight, and the G65B running @ 240 Hz (sometimes 120) in 2560 x 1440 and have absolutely zero scan lines. I do not run it in Game Mode. I found that I was able to tweak the settings to look better without Game Mode, no ghosting, no scan lines, great contrast ratios. I'm super pleased.

Light bleed? Not at all on this. On the Alienware X17 R2 screens though, it is very prevalent. In the M18 R1 480 Hz screen, slight/ minor light bleed.
watching this review on the 27inch screen :D You kinda got me to buy this to be honest. Got it through a staff discount for £390 :D :D Everything really pops once you use the windows 11 auto HDR and windows HDR calibration tool. I tried GPU setting etc but the windows 11 and the tool smashed it. Even games look far far superior in HDR auto than it ever did on my windows 10 setup. This screen actually made me update to windows 11 :D Ive pulled 607 nits on this btw :D Got the screen running on a radeon 6800 and it looks amazing. Most of your screen settings them selfs where helpful. Highly recommend auto HDR and HDR calibration tool if your using windows. I think most fun ive had with it so far is playing apex legends at 240hz. Games so well made now that my setup can really test this monitor. Oh and I also dont see scanlines anymore. Not sure if windows stuff fixed it for me or my GPU settings but their gone.

Scanlines is a deal breaker for me, it seems every one of these monitor series whether its the G6, G7, G8, G9 and with the NEO variants all has them... I have eyes for detail, and when I notice them, I can never un-notice them. It seems with their upcoming OLED variants for their G8 and G9, they have rectified this scanline issue. Seems to be limitation with their VA panels and glad I didn't decide to buy any of them, because if I am spending big money, I expect the screen to be flawless, which means no scanlines, no dead/stuck/bright pixels, no flickering, no OSD software bugs, etc ,etc...
If you think these VA panels were expensive, just wait until you see their OLED prices for equal specs...
I am about to get this in one or two days really hopping it will be good😃

This just seems like a refresh of the original G7, and a lower price. That's not a bad thing, but I don't get why they won't release a 21:9 version of this VA panel. They have the 32:9 G9 using this same panel tech, but the only 21:9 monitor that Samsung offers that isn't an OLED is the G5 which is using old garbage VA with horrible smearing and slow response times. Why?
To fix the "scanlines" just change the cable, put in a good HDMI 48Gbps cable and done.! You're welcome.!

Thanks for the review. I have a Samsung Odyssey G7 that i had to send to RMA and now i have to take a decision between getting a refund or accepting a G6 in exchange for the G7, because they don't have the G7 in stock anymore nor the parts for repairing my G7.
I have been gathering all the information i can about the G6 since yesterday and i decided i'm gonna go with it.

@@matheus8019 Samsung has some horrible QC issues, I got my G6 and it has a weird line of screen tearing and flashing pixels that trails down the monitor periodically

I dont understand your "samsung va panel, oh boy" statement, except for extreme low end like the g3 samsung has a great track record for panels and are typically the best VA panels you can get
also the g5 has a terrible VA panel with some of the worst response time and smearing on the market

It's interesting you experienced scan lines. Rtings review says their unit didn't have them at all.
Mine definitely has them. I think it's more like a refresh rate / vertical sync issue

I've owned this monitor for a few months now and play on both pc and ps5. At first it wasn't fully compatible with the ps5 even though it has hdmi 2.1 and im happy to say a few updates later this monitor is now fully compatible with the ps5.

I have one small annoying problem with this monitor. I often like to adjust the brightness, but it is hidden in expert settings. This means that I have to get there every single time and it takes quite a lot of time. Is there any kind of a shortcut to do that?
For people bothered by this, you can set up the voice guide. When you press the microphone button on the remote, just say "Brightness" and the slider will show up.

I've tried toggling other settings (eg: HDR in Windows, refresh rate, VRR, etc.) in case one or more affects whether Game HDR is available but I've had no luck. I am torn between LG GQ850 and this Samsung. LG supposedly has better HDR experience. HDR600 and higher brightness 450. But i do love curved screen. And LG is not curved :(
There is also difference of LG being IPS and Samsung VA. I really wish i could see side by side comparison..Samsung is also 100euro cheaper at the moment of writing , not that it matters much.

I tried to turn on VRR on my PS5 but it says: VRR is not supported by your screen? Does anyone know why this doenst work? Because i was pretty sure that VRR is only available with HDMI 2.1 and thats what this screen has. Thanks!

I've spoken to Samsung and they say there's no such thing and the only way VRR will work is to plug the monitor into a graphics card GPU which isn't possible with PS5. How does this compares with Neo G7-8 in real life? Is 1440p vs 4K that much noticeable on 32”? Is double price justifiable?
4k runs at a slower hertz then 1440p, so the smoothest of the video maybe noticeable but the seeing it before you do in first person shooters will be missing (the faster the hertz, the faster you can see your opponent, that's why everyone always thinks PC players are cheating...lol). And not to mention distance from the screen. If you have the graphic power, go for it. If you tired of getting beamed on COD, don't... lol

Seems like we'll have the swansong of VA panels in the monitor segment not too far in the future. This looks pretty good, with the exception of the prices and the scanlines, I definitely get annoyed when I see those things in a brand new monitor.

I really wish you would have included your HDR calcibration settings. I have this in HDR mode and everything is so damn washed out. The white are brutally bright and drowning out everything else.

an OS in the monitor? I came here to check if it had crosshairs built into the overlay ... and found out about that OS crap. Your review is great, but I do not want that in a monitor for any reason. Can it be COMPLETELY disabled? That is just a waste.
My g6 does not see the computer after automatically turning off the monitor after the selected time in windows, and only when you restart the computer does the monitor see the PC again. Does everyone have it?

It's kinda weird i've bought 27' (i send it back because got problems with response time during gaming, fast & really fast settings caused white streaks on Cyberpunk 2077, I didnt test any other game) & 32'. And my 32' has scanlines in everything ([the 27' had some but it was less strong and therefore I was not as attentive]) videos, games, web page, with white, orange, blue colors & and other colors that I haven't paid attention to yet. But only with my gaming compute ( Display port to DP on graphic card with samsung DP or other DP cable is same result). And i've tried same with my work laptop (hdmi to usb c) and QHD 60/X/120hz(maximum), has no scanlines at all, its really weird. I dont know how is it possible. I didnt try HDMI to HDMI on my gaming computer but i want to stay 240hz. If someone has a solution in the settings to make scan lines disappear, dont hesitate to tell me. I have the impression that on the 32 inch the scan lines are definitely more present. It's really weird. It's not unpleasant but the screen must be really far from more than 80 cm I think,to stop paying attention. & Happy new year ;)

the biggest issue with g6 and g7's for me is that there are no flat versions...and also the fact that g7's are only VA...
I compared the latest LG IPS and G7. The G7 screen is vastly better overall.

No, mine had scan lines, got it a week ago and last night the monitor developed horizontal lines. It's going back. Not a great product.

I dont know why but everything is to dark... I did everything but if im in shadows its to dark and I cant see anything (Minecraft on PS5. I cant go mining because of that problem...)
Turn off the contrast enhanser that should solve the problem also u can change the gamma setting to 2.2 and change the shadow ditail too

It works pwefectly on xbox though but it does not support vrr on ps5 actully try game mode off it gives better resolution and hdr its a software problem i heard if you update the monitor it would unlock its true potential
