Sorry to interject, however, am newly inspired by recent video interview of microbiome/brain connection scientist Emeran Mayer (interviewed recently by Mark Hyman). I suffer a three year+ autoimmune disease, for which the gut health is central (almost universally typical, if not entirely so). June 16, 2021 Interview: w/Hyman's outrageous title: "Fix Your LEAKY GUT To Prevent DIABETES< EHART DISEASE & __________ (can't see it while typing in Comments scroll down) with Emeran Mayer & Mark Hyman). Mayer has a book I will be checking out on Amazon . . . I am no newbie to microbiome/gut/nutrition/inflammation and also how all this affects our brain (one and same in many ways) . . . Well, if you're miserable, I recommend checking out, will help if you have some sort of background, but not required. And Hyman gets caught promoting (again) the microbe Ankermansia (or similar spelling). NOPE, it's both good and deleterious. . . I am just emerging from the rabbit hole of gluten/wheat intolerance and this morning have been diagnosed with long covid. I am now on the path to reboot my biome so hopefully this will assist in the long covid recovery. A really useful video, so thanks for posting it up.
I learned that after getting very ill with respiratory illness (unknown) alcohol was very harmful for me. I started reducing meat and increasing yogurt and fermented soy called tempeh. Soy is not good, fermented soy is good. I also recommend the blood diet, eat right for your blood type. Aloe vera juice is healing on the stomach.
@Michael Buddah...I have been using slippery elm and aloe vera. Was considering adding l glutamine etc but worried it may aggravate my histamine issues...the glutamate, fermented product...plus the expense. Unfortunately, I can't yet go for tempeh or even soy in general.
L-Glutamine & prolonged fasting (48 hrs) is what helped me in reducing sensitivity to any histamine rich food. And pre-pro biotic capsule before food & pure probiotic after food.
@@isisneteru6713 I didn't faced any big issues. Just that after taking too much of it, it caused diarrhea sometimes, so I just took half a teaspoon & that works well for me. L-Glutamine is very important for healing the intestines back to normal, thus remediating leaky gut syndrome. For histamines I take Claritin 15 mins before food & quercetin just before.
I get migraines and neurological symptoms every time I take L-glutamine. Do you have any other tipps? (What stuff could I take instead of L-glutamine)?
After watching your video with Dr. Tina Peers, I decided to try a low histamine diet. After realizing I had to stop eating yogurt, I decided to start a probiotic...in just a couple days, I realized how much clearer I was thinking. And then I see this video today...completely confirms my suspicions that it was the probiotic helping me!
@@LiteraryLani Hi, I used NOW Supplements, Acidophilus, Two Billion, Dairy, Soy and Gluten Free, 100 Veg Capsules. I ordered it from Amazon. I haven't been taking it every day, but my brain fog hasn't returned...so now I'm not sure if that was helping or not. It's pretty cheap though, so might be worth a try.
The GAPS diet was the single most effective thing I’ve done over my 8 months of LC. It focuses on gut microbiome and gut wall healing. Im still on the introduction phase (5 weeks now), but I’m doing so much better. I’ve also used brain retraining as well. Those two things have been game changers for me. My POTS is almost gone which is a big deal. Headaches too. Im completely off of supplements. Well actually just cod liver oil, but that’s more of a food than a supplement. Thought I’d share this because I think the trauma she refers to might be damage to the gut lining or microbiome. Hopefully my recovery continues at this pace.
How are you doing now Steve. I’ve just started fixing my Microbiome as I think it’s a major reason I got Long COVID, so I’d be super interested to know your progress. I’m just five months into LC.
@@markstaud honestly, it was very good at getting me to a certain point, but it plateaued around 60-70%. From there it was difficult to maintain such a strict diet. With slip ups here and there, I ended up relapsing. It’s a good tool to have, but it’s not a cure. I tried it for 6 months, very strictly. Since then I loosely follow it. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been very helpful for me as well. Probably more so than the dieting. Everyone is different, so we all need to keep trying things. Best of luck.

Thanks Gez and Viola, I’m another that’s had stomach problems in the past and covid made everything so much worse. I feel pretty sure it’s what’s made me susceptible. I hope Viola’s methods are a way out and a way to restore our health.
I really appreciate Viola acknowledging that she was one of the lucky ones, and that some people do everything 'right' and still don't recover. It's so rare for recovered patients and also many alternative health practitioners to recognise this. It means a lot and I think adds a lot of credibility to her work and understanding of these illnesses. I usually get my back up when people use the term 'chronic fatigue' when talking about ME, but she spoke with a lot of knowledge and empathy throughout this interview, especially at the end.

im recovering from a nasty case of covid i have to use antibiotics in the vein for 11 days, a week later i developed a weird alergy to allmost all foods, so i started taking probiotics and eating pome granade and my allergies are getting more middler. thank GOD for drs like u, the next month im going to take another strain of probiotics and the next one another until i repoblate my gut again.

Im with you. I had a traumatic childhood, and am a very anxious person. I was always on the go (A type personality). Physically I was very fit, I trained 5 days a week and eat a very balanced plant based diet, and don't smoke and rarely drink. Well, I got covid in July and it completely tripped my circuts. Fatigue, brain fog, tremors and muscle weakness to name a few symptoms. It has completely wiped me out, but it has taught me a very valuable lesson. Mental fitness is just as, if not more important than physical fitness. Meditation, cold showers and ice baths, mindfulness and sleep are all helping craw mel back to my previous energy levels, but covid has changed me forever

This is all great advice. If you have sibo though, you are unable to tolerate many of these foods. You have to eliminate the overgrowth of bacteria first then introduce prebiotics. It makes it tough for us people with gut issues. People who don't, go for this it will really work to increase gut diversity.
@@bluelibradorite9566 I would start with one of the following prebiotics in tiny amounts and build up: partially hydrolyzed guar gum (Nestle), Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) by Bimuno, or Acacia gum. These are recommended by Jason Hawrelak if you suffer from gas and bloating and are considered some of the "safer" prebiotics. Prebiotics are the best way to make quick and impactful changes to the gut microbiome. Hope this helps!

I have histamine intolerance and possibly mast cell activation syndrome and was told to stay away from any fermented foods I’m confused. Also no citrus, dairy, eggs. Had Covid in March 2020 was not supposed to live so I had it bad. Always had terrible stomach issues but worse since Covid. It’s very confusing. I can’t fast due to diabetes. My sugar goes sky high.
I don't know about anyone else but when I was hospitalised with covid I was given a ton of intravenous antibiotics. I've also had to have them for a dental infection since coming out of hospital. I ordered probiotcs etc straight away when I came out. If there's one way to kill off microbiome, it's antibiotics. I was surprised that alcohol wasn't mentioned as a bit of a no no particularly as it's the festive season. So just something to bear in mind for those that want to indulge!

Joint pain is quite common and is an inflammatory response. As such it’s worth managing histamine intake and taking anti histamines. Hope your wife improves soon!
THIS (and ashwagandha and atarax) is what most of all helped me to heal. Potato-flour in some water 3 times a day (prebiotic) also made a huge difference! (It made the 4 month long diarré stop!) It took 10 months to figure it all out, and it took 2-3 month to help the gut heal enough. Not low histamine food, but helping my body to start to be able to process and break the histamine-rich and highly nutritious food down. I know that my gut was not doing okay before covid, so go figure I would become long-covid. ...wish I hadn't started eating white sugar and weat again.. 🙄🤦🏼♀️ am starting to get back to the good route now though. The food is so tasty too. 😋 (still can't handle onions too much or beans though)

This interview was insanely helpful btw, some of the best interviews in the health and wellness realm period. People should really pay attention to this one as my GI MAP found low IgA in the small intestine. Also I do noticeably better when I meditate and get more fiber and colorful plant diversity which I think is key to our healing.

I had colon cancer and major complications including c.diff which put me on heavy duty antibiotics. My gut biome was wiped out. I am 6 weeks with covid, not called a long hauler yet. What do you suggest I do to get my life back? I am on a leave of absence from work. I need to work and I also want to be working out. I have "good days" and then I am wiped out the next day.

I have recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease due to being put on Lansoprazole for a suspected silent reflux. I had long covid last year thought I'd gotten over it however, due to having a bad reaction to Lansoprazole long covid has come back with a vengeance . I have subsequently found out that being on Lansoprazole causes Coeliac Disease- why on earth are they still prescribing this poison. So my world and lifestyle choices are just up in the air at the mo . @@tortysoft there are lots of alternatives to Lansoprazole and yes coeliac disease is a consequence of taking Lansoprazole ( give it a quick Google) Coeliac Disease is where you have to avoid Gluten it's a life changer that's for sure so think of the word BROW - you have to avoid anything that contains BARELY RYE OATS & WHEAT. You'll be amazed where its hidden - drinks , medication obviously food groups sauces etc etc etc . This is what worked for me, and might work for you if you have symptoms of IBS-D: B. coagulans, Bio-Kult (probiotic), F. prausnitzii, ox bile, glutamine Do your research. Don't go overboard with any one treatment. The typical dosages of most probiotics are far too high anyways. Balance is key.
Thanks Gez, been following your channel for over a year now and really appreciate the great research you've shared. My issue is still with fatigue so as someone who has been practicing good gut health for several years this has been very informative. I don't have any problems eating salami pizza ;) or have any obvious history of histamine intolerance but the fatigue is so frustrating especially as like yourself I was a fit active person before Covid. I'm really struggling with pacing, trying to do some work when I can and follow interests not knowing where my energy levels will be day to day and my activity tolerance seems to be getting worse. After a year of tests, the NHS finally decided I probably didn't have Thyroid cancer. I always said it was Long Covid. Anyone else been there ? I have been taking Lansoprazole for ten years - I have had ME twice - now have had Long Covid for 16 months. Is the Lansoprazole causing me trouble? If so, what do I take to stop the pain ? I was put on Lansoprazole and had to come off it after 5weeks due to a bad side effects. I have since found out that being on Lansoprazole can cause you to have coeliac disease which I have now been diagnosed with along with - long covid. I had covid last year thought I'd gotten over it but its come back with a vengeance and all from taking Lansoprazole. I hope this helps you out. Ask your GP for a blood test and PLEASE come off Lansoprazole thst said do it slowly or you'll end up in a world of pain like I was - withdrawal symptoms .
Long covid also 16 months. We are the largest group of longhaulers they say. The doctors are one thing, I am used to their gaslighting, but really horrible that none of my friends believe me.

Vegan here. Go to a Functional Medicine Dr if you can, Simon. Try something called PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) for pain.... if you have GI issues (IBS) try Lactobacillus rhamnosus (inhibits Mast Cell activity) along with Bifidobacterium Longum + Saccharomyces Boulardii....these 3 probiotics are miracle workers. You can add Butyric Acid short term if your intestinal lining is beaten up. @@tonybrowne8673 its hanging out in the gut. You have to go on a low histamine diet, and introduce probiotics slowly. You have to eliminate pretty much all the good stuff for awhile. And reintroduce them slowly. It's a long process. But hopefully it helps
Since major heart surgery after which from I.C.U. I was taken back into surgery had my ribs broken again and was worked on for four hours I have had diarrhoea daily since. It rules my life as I cannot make any plans to go out, go shopping, socialise in fact I have no quality of life with nothing to look forward to. I also get depressed now. I am a 69 year old female who would just like to live a normal life and be able to go shopping. Please,please,please could you give me any help with this matter or give me any advice. I have had lots of tests , M.R.I. Scans and tried gluton free very strict diet nothing works. I would be so grateful if you could help me in any way. That sounds really depressing, so sorry. Maybe this microbiome concept will help. Keep reaching out for ideas, for sure. Discussion groups, Quora, whatever, since the doctors haven't been able to nail this down. Isolation is no fun, but at least you have online access to a world of ideas and information in the mean time.
I personally don't have long Covid but fascinated by the topic and genuinely hope a solution can be found. Has anyone suffering from long Covid tried L Theanine? Or possibly a combination of L Theanine, Niacin with flush, NAC and melatonin?
@@RUNDMC1 So im sure you know why i would mention Niacin with flush, Nac and melatonin but i am thinking about L Theanine because of the Vagus nerve and i am only guessing here that L Theanine would possibly reduce over activity because L Theanine has a powerful effect on making the brain create Alpha waves. I have read that a single dose of L Theanine can induce Alpha waves equal to 5 hours of meditation. I also mentioned it because of the uncanny resemblance between the protocols that some long haulers use and the protocols i used with my son because i noticed early in his life that he was on the spectrum. Takes years here to get a diagnosis before medication can be given so i had to research and find things that would help him. My protocol for helping my son was focused on dealing with possible inflammation, reducing IL6 and TNF. Healthy gut, pro and Prebiotics, Niacin with flush, vitamin D, Nac, melatonin and L Theanine. Also intermittent CBD or Curcumin regulators of IL6. I am just seeing patterns here and as your guest points out it boils down a lot too inflammation. I also suffered chronic back pain for almost 20 years and genuinely thought i was heading towards being out of work so i started taking the same protocol i was giving my son and within 2 months i experienced a massive improvement. That was 3 years ago and now i am perfectly fine. Really praying that all those suffering long Covid can find solutions that work for them. I would also mention as a side note that the protocol i used also improved my mental health massively. Certainly possible that getting rid of chronic back pain contributed greatly but i genuinely believe it goes beyond that. Keep up the great work and you're really helping so many 👍

Who do we go to in Australia to get gut microbiome tested? I'm not able to tolerate food so can't treat with diet. The only thing I've been able to semi tolerate is banana which may be making things worse.

Yet i have taken an antihistamine and my Brain Fog, along with breathing issues, heart pain, has reduced that i am able to walk around and not get as tired. Yet after 6 days on the antihistamine i stopped for 2 days, on the second day evening, i felt the fog returning and my chest tighter. On the 3rd day i took the antihistamine again, by afternoon i was feeling much better. I feel i have MCAS, as some of the triggers are very familiar to me. So should i still be on a low histamine diet or not?
@@paweluko take anti histamine from time to time. Low histamine dies is difficult to keep up with. I try and eat whole foods, cooked from scratch, been trying tablets, like Reishi and turkey tail mushroom, bone broths, pomegranate, which have helped. But still not recovered 100% . I found eating sugar, caused trouble.
I was just researching craniosacral therapy omg. Fermented foods are high histamine though…but so are smoked fish but I seem to do really well with smoked fish and spinach which are also high histamine, although I still have symptoms like cfs insomnia and brain fog.
I'm confused - you dont seem to be doing really well, given those 3 symptoms you listed. I had huge improvement in those plus tachycardia by doing a strict elimination diet, plus antihistamines and supplements for 14 days, then tediously testing only one whole food a day for quite a while. Taking a glucose or lactulose breath test for it is the only non-invasive way to test for it. If you have it, Try getting a small intestinal prokinetic such as 0.5mg of prucalopride 4 hours after your last meal at bedtime and fast for at least 12 hours after taking the medicine. Do the stomach issues resolve with time? I had COVID a couple weeks ago, but now I am experiencing GI issues (everything from pains/discomfort, rumbling stomach etc). All my blood work and CT came back healthy and normal. I am now on probiotics and watching everything I eat.

Could you talk about this animal protein allergy? I’ve had alpha-gal antibodies tested, skin prick testing done with animal foods, and none seem to be positive. I’ve stumbled upon histamine intolerance, but I even react very severely to even fresh meat. What do you make of this? It’s definitely not an IgE-mediated allergy in my case.

Thanks Gez , I’ve gotta give my two cents on the advice given here , WHOLE GRAINS are not good for you 😩 we are not animals with four stomachs, and grains cause havoc on your digestive system in the long run, as do refined seed and vegetable oils , these are just awful for humans, stick to what we’ve been eating for thousands of years quality meat and organs, fruit , and vegetables with the least amount of toxicity (corn and soy are very hard to digest 🙂 so avoid those too , so put refined grain, oils, sugars in the bin and you’ll do ok 👍 😁
Also corn has never given me problems, but I'm also genetically mostly from the Americas... I'm guessing Asian cultures who traditionally ate soy have no problems with soy in their diets. Eating foods from your ancestors original diets is never discussed by most nutritional experts. Less than 500 years time is not enough to adapt to new diets. Just because European people don't char corn like it should be properly cooked doesn't mean corn itself is bad for everyone. Its stupid to assume everyone has the same problems. Our ancestors had more children when they weren't allergic to local cuisine and miserable all the time... Assuming everyone has a European gut is pretty foolish for anyone not European.
I was already eating keto/ketovore coming into long covid. I drastically eliminated histamine foods and added antihistamines and supplements but had huge improvement in under 3 weeks! Gradually expanding my diet but keeping a lid on histamines.
Very useful, but for those of us with COVID spending 45 minutes watching a video is very taxing. I guess I will break it up in 15-minute segments over the day.
I did, after seeing Gez' video "Heres how to treat long covid". I'd had severe hay fever for 50+ years, then random bout of insomnia and/or tachycardia for 30+ years, only told to avoid alcohol. I had huge improvement in all long covid symptoms AND the insomnia and tachycardia disappeared also!!

Look into Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (“IMO”) with Methanobrevibacter smithii. You can take a lactulose or glucose breath test measuring the methane concentration in your breath after consuming a fermentable drink. If you produce too much, look at how Mark Pimentel would treat it.
I do have low IGA, long hauler for 10 month had a good four month Jun to Oct then relapsed after getting back to sugar, occasional beers and staying up late etc. I’m watching those videos again and trying to get back to healthier life style. How have you been doing?
Can you eat a bowl of tomatoes without adverse reaction? If the answer is yes you’re histamine tolerant. If not, the answer is you’re not. If you don’t want to risk it, if you’ve ever had hay fever, asthma or eczema you are probably histamine intolerant.

I don’t “think” I have mast-cell issues but this long haul stuff makes you question everything. I do have insomnia and headaches by late afternoon most days…. Has anyone in these comments had yellow reflux. Mainly at night? And if you've fixed it. Did it just go with time? As well. As taking probiotics? Oh and diet obviously.... If you're experiencing upper back problems, just above the bra line when I had a pinched nerve in that area I couldn't eat fast enough, and threw up pure yellow bile everyday, because it was triggering my gallbladder. Seeing my chiropractor and getting my back adjusted was the only thing that stopped it... You don't feel back pain until your back is 60% out of place, but you can be triggering nerves well before then. Hope that helps. ❤

I learned that after getting very ill with respiratory illness (unknown) alcohol was very harmful for me. I started reducing meat and increasing yogurt and fermented soy called tempeh. Soy is not good, fermented soy is good. I also recommend the blood diet, eat right for your blood type. Aloe vera juice is healing on the stomach.

@Michael Buddah...I have been using slippery elm and aloe vera. Was considering adding l glutamine etc but worried it may aggravate my histamine issues...the glutamate, fermented product...plus the expense.
Unfortunately, I can't yet go for tempeh or even soy in general.
L-Glutamine & prolonged fasting (48 hrs) is what helped me in reducing sensitivity to any histamine rich food. And pre-pro biotic capsule before food & pure probiotic after food.
How were you able to handle l glutamine with histamine issues?

L-Glutamine is very important for healing the intestines back to normal, thus remediating leaky gut syndrome.
For histamines I take Claritin 15 mins before food & quercetin just before.
I get migraines and neurological symptoms every time I take L-glutamine. Do you have any other tipps? (What stuff could I take instead of L-glutamine)?

After watching your video with Dr. Tina Peers, I decided to try a low histamine diet. After realizing I had to stop eating yogurt, I decided to start a probiotic...in just a couple days, I realized how much clearer I was thinking. And then I see this video today...completely confirms my suspicions that it was the probiotic helping me!

The GAPS diet was the single most effective thing I’ve done over my 8 months of LC. It focuses on gut microbiome and gut wall healing. Im still on the introduction phase (5 weeks now), but I’m doing so much better. I’ve also used brain retraining as well. Those two things have been game changers for me. My POTS is almost gone which is a big deal. Headaches too. Im completely off of supplements. Well actually just cod liver oil, but that’s more of a food than a supplement. Thought I’d share this because I think the trauma she refers to might be damage to the gut lining or microbiome. Hopefully my recovery continues at this pace.

How are you doing now Steve. I’ve just started fixing my Microbiome as I think it’s a major reason I got Long COVID, so I’d be super interested to know your progress. I’m just five months into LC.
@@markstaud honestly, it was very good at getting me to a certain point, but it plateaued around 60-70%. From there it was difficult to maintain such a strict diet. With slip ups here and there, I ended up relapsing. It’s a good tool to have, but it’s not a cure. I tried it for 6 months, very strictly. Since then I loosely follow it. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been very helpful for me as well. Probably more so than the dieting. Everyone is different, so we all need to keep trying things. Best of luck.

I really appreciate Viola acknowledging that she was one of the lucky ones, and that some people do everything 'right' and still don't recover. It's so rare for recovered patients and also many alternative health practitioners to recognise this. Im with you. I had a traumatic childhood, and am a very anxious person. I was always on the go (A type personality). Physically I was very fit, I trained 5 days a week and eat a very balanced plant based diet, and don't smoke and rarely drink. Well, I got covid in July and it completely tripped my circuts. Fatigue, brain fog, tremors and muscle weakness to name a few symptoms. It has completely wiped me out, but it has taught me a very valuable lesson. Mental fitness is just as, if not more important than physical fitness. Meditation, cold showers and ice baths, mindfulness and sleep are all helping craw mel back to my previous energy levels, but covid has changed me forever

This is all great advice. If you have sibo though, you are unable to tolerate many of these foods. You have to eliminate the overgrowth of bacteria first then introduce prebiotics. It makes it tough for us people with gut issues. People who don't, go for this it will really work to increase gut diversity.

@@bluelibradorite9566 I would start with one of the following prebiotics in tiny amounts and build up: partially hydrolyzed guar gum (Nestle), Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) by Bimuno, or Acacia gum. These are recommended by Jason Hawrelak if you suffer from gas and bloating and are considered some of the "safer" prebiotics. Prebiotics are the best way to make quick and impactful changes to the gut microbiome. Hope this helps!

I have histamine intolerance and possibly mast cell activation syndrome and was told to stay away from any fermented foods I’m confused. Also no citrus, dairy, eggs. Had Covid in March 2020 was not supposed to live so I had it bad. Always had terrible stomach issues but worse since Covid. It’s very confusing. I can’t fast due to diabetes. My sugar goes sky high.
I don't know about anyone else but when I was hospitalised with covid I was given a ton of intravenous antibiotics. I've also had to have them for a dental infection since coming out of hospital. I ordered probiotcs etc straight away when I came out. If there's one way to kill off microbiome, it's antibiotics.
I was surprised that alcohol wasn't mentioned as a bit of a no no particularly as it's the festive season. So just something to bear in mind for those that want to indulge!

Joint pain is quite common and is an inflammatory response. As such it’s worth managing histamine intake and taking anti histamines. Hope your wife improves soon!

THIS (and ashwagandha and atarax) is what most of all helped me to heal. Potato-flour in some water 3 times a day (prebiotic) also made a huge difference! (It made the 4 month long diarré stop!) It took 10 months to figure it all out, and it took 2-3 month to help the gut heal enough. Not low histamine food, but helping my body to start to be able to process and break the histamine-rich and highly nutritious food down. I know that my gut was not doing okay before covid, so go figure I would become long-covid. ...wish I hadn't started eating white sugar and weat again.. 🙄🤦🏼♀️ am starting to get back to the good route now though. The food is so tasty too. 😋 (still can't handle onions too much or beans though)

I’m 6 months out and GI symptoms after covid have changed from upper GI bloating reflux and gas/consipation feeling and hemroid to now more lower GI bloat cramping constipation gas with almost every meal.. anyone else have similar symptoms?
Look into SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and Mark Pimentel’s research around it. It’s a major cause of bloating, excessive belching and distended abdomen after eating certain foods. Taking a glucose or lactulose breath test for it is the only non-invasive way to test for it. If you have it, Try getting a small intestinal prokinetic such as 0.5mg of prucalopride 4 hours after your last meal at bedtime and fast for at least 12 hours after taking the medicine. Try to not snack in between meals. Read the wikipedia page on the migrating motor complex to understand this condition as it’s compromized in people with this condition.

People should really pay attention to this one as my GI MAP found low IgA in the small intestine. I have recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease due to being put on Lansoprazole for a suspected silent reflux. I had long covid last year thought I'd gotten over it however, due to having a bad reaction to Lansoprazole long covid has come back with a vengeance . I have subsequently found out that being on Lansoprazole causes Coeliac Disease- why on earth are they still prescribing this poison. So my world and lifestyle choices are just up in the air at the mo . Do your research. Don't go overboard with any one treatment. The typical dosages of most probiotics are far too high anyways. Balance is key.

My issue is still with fatigue so as someone who has been practicing good gut health for several years this has been very informative. I don't have any problems eating salami pizza ;) or have any obvious history of histamine intolerance but the fatigue is so frustrating especially as like yourself I was a fit active person before Covid.
I'm really struggling with pacing, trying to do some work when I can and follow interests not knowing where my energy levels will be day to day and my activity tolerance seems to be getting worse.

I was put on Lansoprazole and had to come off it after 5weeks due to a bad side effects. I have since found out that being on Lansoprazole can cause you to have coeliac disease which I have now been diagnosed with along with - long covid. I had covid last year thought I'd gotten over it but its come back with a vengeance and all from taking Lansoprazole. I hope this helps you out. Ask your GP for a blood test and PLEASE come off Lansoprazole thst said do it slowly or you'll end up in a world of pain like I was - withdrawal symptoms .

Vegan here. Go to a Functional Medicine Dr if you can, Simon. Try something called PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) for pain.... if you have GI issues (IBS) try Lactobacillus rhamnosus (inhibits Mast Cell activity) along with Bifidobacterium Longum + Saccharomyces Boulardii....these 3 probiotics are miracle workers. You can add Butyric Acid short term if your intestinal lining is beaten up. @@tonybrowne8673 its hanging out in the gut. You have to go on a low histamine diet, and introduce probiotics slowly. You have to eliminate pretty much all the good stuff for awhile. And reintroduce them slowly. It's a long process. But hopefully it helps
Since major heart surgery after which from I.C.U. I was taken back into surgery had my ribs broken again and was worked on for four hours I have had diarrhoea daily since. It rules my life as I cannot make any plans to go out, go shopping, socialise in fact I have no quality of life with nothing to look forward to. I also get depressed now. That sounds really depressing, so sorry. Maybe this microbiome concept will help. Keep reaching out for ideas, for sure. Discussion groups, Quora, whatever, since the doctors haven't been able to nail this down. @@RUNDMC1 So im sure you know why i would mention Niacin with flush, Nac and melatonin but i am thinking about L Theanine because of the Vagus nerve and i am only guessing here that L Theanine would possibly reduce over activity because L Theanine has a powerful effect on making the brain create Alpha waves.
I have read that a single dose of L Theanine can induce Alpha waves equal to 5 hours of meditation.
I also mentioned it because of the uncanny resemblance between the protocols that some long haulers use and the protocols i used with my son because i noticed early in his life that he was on the spectrum.
Takes years here to get a diagnosis before medication can be given so i had to research and find things that would help him.
My protocol for helping my son was focused on dealing with possible inflammation, reducing IL6 and TNF.
Healthy gut, pro and Prebiotics, Niacin with flush, vitamin D, Nac, melatonin and L Theanine.
Also intermittent CBD or Curcumin regulators of IL6.
I am just seeing patterns here and as your guest points out it boils down a lot too inflammation.
I also suffered chronic back pain for almost 20 years and genuinely thought i was heading towards being out of work so i started taking the same protocol i was giving my son and within 2 months i experienced a massive improvement. That was 3 years ago and now i am perfectly fine.
Really praying that all those suffering long Covid can find solutions that work for them.
I would also mention as a side note that the protocol i used also improved my mental health massively. Certainly possible that getting rid of chronic back pain contributed greatly but i genuinely believe it goes beyond that.

Who do we go to in Australia to get gut microbiome tested? I'm not able to tolerate food so can't treat with diet. The only thing I've been able to semi tolerate is banana which may be making things worse.
It is so confusing, i have never had hay fever/pollen/ issues, i can eat tomatoes no issues. Yet i have taken an antihistamine and my Brain Fog, along with breathing issues, heart pain, has reduced that i am able to walk around and not get as tired. Yet after 6 days on the antihistamine i stopped for 2 days, on the second day evening, i felt the fog returning and my chest tighter. On the 3rd day i took the antihistamine again, by afternoon i was feeling much better. I feel i have MCAS, as some of the triggers are very familiar to me.
So should i still be on a low histamine diet or not?

@@paweluko take anti histamine from time to time. Low histamine dies is difficult to keep up with. I try and eat whole foods, cooked from scratch, been trying tablets, like Reishi and turkey tail mushroom, bone broths, pomegranate, which have helped. But still not recovered 100% . I found eating sugar, caused trouble.
I was just researching craniosacral therapy omg. Fermented foods are high histamine though…but so are smoked fish but I seem to do really well with smoked fish and spinach which are also high histamine, although I still have symptoms like cfs insomnia and brain fog.
I'm confused - you dont seem to be doing really well, given those 3 symptoms you listed. I had huge improvement in those plus tachycardia by doing a strict elimination diet, plus antihistamines and supplements for 14 days, then tediously testing only one whole food a day for quite a while. The odd thing is the symptoms vary as well as whether immediate or delayed reaction. You might be surprised how well you can be! God bless ❤🙏❤

Could you talk about this animal protein allergy? I’ve had alpha-gal antibodies tested, skin prick testing done with animal foods, and none seem to be positive. I’ve stumbled upon histamine intolerance, but I even react very severely to even fresh meat. What do you make of this? It’s definitely not an IgE-mediated allergy in my case.

Thanks Gez , I’ve gotta give my two cents on the advice given here , WHOLE GRAINS are not good for you 😩 we are not animals with four stomachs, and grains cause havoc on your digestive system in the long run, as do refined seed and vegetable oils , these are just awful for humans, stick to what we’ve been eating for thousands of years quality meat and organs, fruit , and vegetables with the least amount of toxicity (corn and soy are very hard to digest 🙂 so avoid those too , so put refined grain, oils, sugars in the bin and you’ll do ok 👍 😁

I was already eating keto/ketovore coming into long covid. I drastically eliminated histamine foods and added antihistamines and supplements but had huge improvement in under 3 weeks! Gradually expanding my diet but keeping a lid on histamines.

Is anyone doing low histamine if they don’t have an obvious reaction to those foods?
I did, after seeing Gez' video "Heres how to treat long covid". I'd had severe hay fever for 50+ years, then random bout of insomnia and/or tachycardia for 30+ years, only told to avoid alcohol. I had huge improvement in all long covid symptoms AND the insomnia and tachycardia disappeared also!!

Look into Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (“IMO”) with Methanobrevibacter smithii. You can take a lactulose or glucose breath test measuring the methane concentration in your breath after consuming a fermentable drink. If you produce too much, look at how Mark Pimentel would treat it.
Anyone else have low IGA?? I already do high fiber,probiotics, plant color diversity, I’m beginning butyrate, aloe, and slippery elm.
I do have low IGA, long hauler for 10 month had a good four month Jun to Oct then relapsed after getting back to sugar, occasional beers and staying up late etc.
I’m watching those videos again and trying to get back to healthier life style.

How do you know if you’re histamine tolerant or not?
Can you eat a bowl of tomatoes without adverse reaction? If the answer is yes you’re histamine tolerant. If not, the answer is you’re not.
If you don’t want to risk it, if you’ve ever had hay fever, asthma or eczema you are probably histamine intolerant.
@@RUNDMC1 well I’ve never had hay fever, allergies or excema. And I had a taco salad tonight with half a tomato and a quarter of an avocado. I don’t “think” I have mast-cell issues but this long haul stuff makes you question everything. I do have insomnia and headaches by late afternoon most days…. Just bought some quercetin and am going to add that to my regimen. Thank you for your reply. I have watched most of your videos and am glad you’re feeling better. Can’t wait to get back to running some day. I really miss it.

Has anyone in these comments had yellow reflux. Mainly at night? And if you've fixed it. Did it just go with time? As well. As taking probiotics? Oh and diet obviously.... I'm month 10 and me and my daughter still have this issue. They've done my bloods and ultrasound and said its not gallbladder... But when you see yellow you kinda think it is. 😔 I hope both me and my daughter who's 10 don't need ours taken out.
If you're experiencing upper back problems, just above the bra line when I had a pinched nerve in that area I couldn't eat fast enough, and threw up pure yellow bile everyday, because it was triggering my gallbladder.
Seeing my chiropractor and getting my back adjusted was the only thing that stopped it...
You don't feel back pain until your back is 60% out of place, but you can be triggering nerves well before then.
