Accept that the experiment of your forefathers to create a new country called Pakistan by breaking away from India has failed. A glaring example of this is clearly standing before you in a country called Bangladesh. Remember that your own ancestors raided India for plunder to drive out Buddhism from India.

The last time I read this book Pakistan between Mosque and Military that was some 10 years back. After reading it I was really astounded by its content and appreciated the frankness and boldness of the author. I salute Hussain Haqqani for all his work about showing the real picture and state of Pakistan to the whole world and look what happened to him now, he is not allowed to live in his birthplace. Recently last month I again bought a hard cover copy of the book with some added chapters to the original 1st edition of 2005. Pakistan needs people like HH to guide and steer it in this hopeless situation but alas they are banned from coming back. A must read by the ones who are interested about the ongoing problems and situation of Pakistan.

Good job👌 showing signs of maturity!🎉 (having an elite perspective in most other of his earlier podcasts--at times I wondered why he even bothered to invite learned scholars when he would just persist & ram down his young, limited, unseasoned & elitist views?)

It's worth noting that when you say 17% resources that's because the population was also 17% of the whole. That the army was much bigger was because it had a higher proportion of people from present day Pakistan. If there was good leadership then that would have been right sized. But poor leadership meant the Army got a country instead of the other way around. It also played a part in hyping up the threat from India. If India was a real threat then after 71 India would have essentially kept Bangladesh but didn't. Even now Bangladesh spends less on military than Pakistan despite being surrounded on all sides by India and is growing faster than Pakistan.

The more I see and listen to your podcast (to be honest as an Indian, I don’t have similar Indian podcasts that match your rational and critical analysis despite disagreements on some points) I see hope and also concern for what is happening to the people who are basically the same race as mine.
Pakistan to many Indians is a tale of two brothers dividing family property and having disputes. The main thing is that they are brothers. Honestly, I feel all the more blessed to have more saner, rational leaders that kept the country intact, passed laws to benefit common citizens, and most importantly helped maintain democracy and its institutions.

MR. Hussain Haqqani used to be the President of Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan and he used to enjoy more or less same charisma which later Altaf Hussain took over through APMSO.
It's all history now, and we are reaping the harvest of 'Islamic Revolution' of 'Mard-e-Momin'.

We need a second part on this book. I read it back in 2008 and I feel the more we talk about this book, the better it is for Pakistanis, Muslims and Non-Muslims alike as it lays bare the fact that Pakistan for decades was governed by Muslim Fascists with an Orwellian Stonewall complex when it came to Bengalis
In my opinion, this book clearly shows that what was projected back then as Islamic Ideology was in fact Maududian Muslim Nationalism which the civil, military bureaucrats along with Jang and Nawa-e-Waqt used it to inject superiority complex similar to what is done in Israel with the Jewish community
Mr. Haqqani has seen it all. From Jamiat, Jasarat to PTV, PML N, PPP and lastly his interactions with US academia as well as establishment. His book deserves more coverage

Pakistan and the Kashmir problem were created by the British who wanted to keep Soviet Russia away from what has always been the world’s richest country as well as from the oil wells of West Asia. They wanted a small unstable country whose government would constantly be forced to look externally for survival. They would prop up the government and military and in return be able to play the politics that they want to play. Did you know that when Kashmir was invaded by Pakistan in 1947, the commander-in-chiefs of both the Indian and Pakistani armies were British and both got their orders from London?

Essentially contested concepts are evaluative, and they deliver value-judgements.[24]
Essentially contested concepts denote comprehensively evaluated entities that have an internally complex character.[25]
The evaluation must be attributed to the internally complex entity as a whole.
The different constituent elements of that internally complex entity are initially variously describable.
The different users of the concept will often allocate substantially different orders of relative importance, substantially different "weights", and/or substantially different interpretations to each of those constituent elements.
Psychological and sociological causes influence the extent to which any particular consideration is salient for a given individual, regarded as a stronger reason by that individual than by another, and regarded as a reason by one individual and not by another.[26]
The disputed concepts are open-ended[27] and vague, and are subject to considerable modification in the light of changing circumstances.[28]
This further modification can neither be predicted nor prescribed in advance.
Whilst, by Gallie's express stipulation, there is no best instantiation of an essentially contested concept (or, at least, none knowable to be the best), it is also obvious that some instantiations will be considerably better than others;[29] and, furthermore, even if one particular instantiation seems best at the moment, there is always the possibility that a new, better instantiation will emerge in the future.[30]
Each party knows and recognizes that its own peculiar usage/interpretation of the concept is disputed by others who, in their turn, hold different and quite incompatible views.[31]
Each party must (at least to a certain extent) understand the criteria upon which the other participants’ (repudiated) views are based.
Disputes centred on essentially contested concepts are "perfectly genuine", "not resolvable by argument",[32] and "nevertheless sustained by perfectly respectable arguments and evidence".[33]
Each party's use of their own specific usage/interpretation is driven by a need to uphold their own particular (correct, proper and superior) usage/interpretation against that of all other (incorrect, improper and irrational) users.
Because the use of an essentially contested concept is always the application of one use against all other uses, any usage is intentionally aggressive and defensive.
Because it is essentially contested, rather than "radically confused", the continued use of the essentially contested concept is justified by the fact that, despite all of their on-going disputation, all of the competitors acknowledge that the contested concept is derived from a single common exemplar.[34]
The continued use of the essentially contested concept also helps to sustain and develop our understanding of the concept's original exemplar/s.
