This soap is SO BEAUTIFUL! I've been soaping now for about 3 years, but still learn sooo much from watching your videos. My soaping partner and I are going to try this technique tonight. We're nervous! I'm hoping we don't over stick blend. Maybe 5 seconds or so with some whisking. We'll see how it goes! Love Love Love your videos!
Thankful so much for giving us the tools such as the conversion calculator. I am new to having to figure out how much of what to use. I learned from kits. But mostly from watching soap makers such as yourself. I don’t intend to sell but I like the creativity. By the end of my group of kits I followed the directions on how to make the soap but I ventured out on decorating it with swirls etc.
You're welcome. You may find the soapcalc video helpful too. Also, the soap group that I mentioned is a great place for learning and asking questions. facebook.com/groups/treemariesoapworks/
I like the subtle yellow. A happy accident. Boomtastic yellow might have been a bit overwhelming to look at and the green stands out so nicely as it is.
Teri, cool technique! Thanx for sharing! I rather like the way the yellow turned out...the color combo reminds me of 1930’s reproduction quilting fabric.
Oh, yeah, Debbie, I can see that now that you say it. I was a quilter before soap making came alone. I love fabric too. It can inspire soap designs for sure.
Dear Teri 💛💚💛 I and my family really enjoyed the video it was excellent 💖. The best part of it is that I could see numbers in the scale when you weigh the things on it also the numbers on the calculator it was so clear. Thanks alot sweetheart for your great effort in making the soap and video. We love you 💛TERI💚
Awesome soaps, Teri!! Love the design. Great tip about the yellow and orange micas. I've noticed they get dull as well, but never connected it with gel phase since it usually makes colors brighter!
Thank you, Amy! I am hoping to figure it out. There is some discussion that it could be the water discount. I hope to do some testing. It would be nice to have predictable results. 💕😊
Dear Teri, despite the thin soap slab produced by the larger mold, I really like that technique of making those dots by using the squeeze bottles. I learn something new every time I watch a new video of yours. I continue to be so tickled by your consummate weighing and measuring of ingredients. Your presentation is professional. You speak well and have a pleasant voice. I like how you sometimes speed up the video to "get to the good stuff". It's all good! Your videography is top notch. You are the "Rachael Ray" of soap making!
Thank you for your tutorials, you put it so simply which is great for the beginners. I am really just a gawker, I have only done melt and pour thus far. requested to be in your face book group, it will give me another place to learn and get the courage to try cold process. I have all the supplies, just need to get some confidence. :)
I would suggest making a simple no color, no fragrance batch for your first batch. Use the distilled water ice cubes for 1/3 of your water weight. That make the smell less intense. (I can't smell anything when I use the ice cubes.) Here is a beginner tutorial I have made for Elements. www.elementsbathandbody.com/basic-cold-process-soap-recipe/
I’ve mixed neon yellow with king tut from mad micas I got a bright deep yellow , I used yellow, black and deep blue color in my soap beautiful combination. Thank you for sharing
These turned out so pretty! The colour scheme really worked out, even the muted yellow! To be honest, I personally liked the muted version better than the bright one.
Dry very pretty! This is a new swirl and technique to me. I’ve not seen anyone else do it. Great job! Question: do you subtract the colorant oil from your main oils?
Gorgeous soap--as usual! Your comment about the yellow not being quite as bright as you'd've liked is a challenge I've had. I found that adding a bit of neon orange to my orange mica (or yellow neon to yellow mica) at about 1/4 tsp neon to 3/4 tsp mica really helps the color to pop without going full neon (though I DO love hard-core neon!). :) Thanks for the great video and sharing your talents with us!
I never really comment on videos but I have to say thank you for that typophobia warning. I know everyone thinks it's ~fake~ but seriously, I break out in bad itches and get so anxious so it's really great to have had that warning. Also the soap turned out great! :) I love that green color!
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Not too bad! I thought I'd be fine but then I did have to look away for a bit ahah, but the warning was really helpful and I think helped prepare me. So it was really thoughtful. Yeah I just know in the past, when I have mentioned I have it, people laughed and said that's not real. Which... is weird! I just told you I have it! Anyway, thanks again! :D
Well, I did formulate the calculator for Elements. Lol! 😉 (They did the internet part.) Figuring the math for every color seemed overwhelmed. 😓 So I made a spreadsheet, then shared it with Elements. 💖 I'm not a scientist. I'm just an artist with perfectionist tendencies. 😂 I do like math and science.😊
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Thats awesome!! I was terrible at math in school and still am but I understand how spread sheets work!! I'm glad you are a perfectionist, its very helpful for those learning how to come up with correct results!! Technology is amazing when applied right! You do wonderful work, its really nice when all of the things you have learned blend together for the greater good!
Hi Teri, I absolutely love your soaps. I'm wondering if we can purchase the soaps you make on this channel. I've checked out your website but I don't see these specific soaps. Would love to purchase one.
Yes, I have a free list of well behaved fragrances on my website. Using them along with a slow moving recipe and not over stick blending will give you time to work. www.treemariesoapworks.com/product/free-list-of-well-behaved-fragrances/ Also check out the "What I Learned" section of this video where I talk about acceleration. ua-cam.com/video/KP45fZ4cTFE/v-deo.html
Ah, thanks for the trypophobia warning! This one didn't really bother me personally, but I can see why it would squick some people. I've actually started collecting the air packaging bags to use for various things now, thanks to you mentioning it before. They look gorgeous! 😍 I actually saw someone else asking on their video about colour coming out less (intense after gel phase... IIRC she mentioned she thought it was related to the very big water discount she was using - I don't know if that's any use, though. It surprised me because I'd always heard that gel phase means more vivid colours generally, but now you've mentioned it too.
I have a touch of that phobia and soap usually doesn't bother me either, but I can see that is would bother some. Gelling usually does make colors more intense. It just is tricky with some colors. I keep thinking that some colors will work "this time." It bothers me that I can't understand it. I am going to have to do some testing. I don't think it would be from the water discount though. 🤔
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Well that's what the few people I saw who commented said too... but the soaper was fairly convinced. I wondered if maybe it was a temperature thing because I believe that the water content affects the temperature at which gelling happens? So maybe the super heavy water discount meant having to get it to a temperature that somehow affected it (IIRC she was using something like mid-20s for water percentage?). But again, I'm just spit-balling what could possibly have done that to make them okay at higher water levels but less intense at lower ones from the bit of soap science I know.
It would be nice to crack the code! I know that a water discount causes saponification to happen more quickly, so because of that, I force gel. Otherwise, the gel doesn't tend to get out to the edges. I did use 25% "water as a percentage of oil weight." Can you give me a link to the video, please? I would like to check it out.
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Sure, I'll go find it - aha here: ua-cam.com/video/z3RD9BjSBZU/v-deo.html She was also using a yellow mica now I've watched it again, and someone else in the comments mentioned about yellows being a little funny, and someone else suggested maybe it's a reaction between the lye and the mica/pigment in it directly. Either way, if you figure it out, I'd love to know why.
I am even more convinced that it comes from gelled soap. Her partial-gel is probably to blame on the water discount, but it is clear that the gelled soap caused the yellow to go pale. High water soaps gel at a lower temperature. Lower water means it's harder to gel, often causing parital-gel. That's why I force gel. Thank you so much for sharing the link. 😊
Thank you for the awesome video. I learn a lot from your videos. Sorry if you've answered this before, but why do you line your squeeze bottles? is it to make them more chemically resistant? Wouldn't using chemically resistant squeeze bottles make it unnecessary to line the bottles? Thank you for your time.
Lining the bottles saves so much time because it is tough to clean when the soap batter has thickened. This way, you can pop out the liner and squeeze out the excess...so easy.😊
I would LOOOVE to join your group. But I don’t do Facebook!! I will just continue to watch and support on utube. Oh, and I’m waiting on my base oils and butters (they will be here in a few days) and then I can make my first loaf of soap!! I’m so excited!!! Can I tag you on instagram? Thanks for everything!
Hi I like your soap tricks. I want to know something if u dont mind to satisfactory reply. 1, what is the difference between hot process, cold process and pour & melt process? 2, what's the benefit to use all these soaps?
I love your soaps. A question: I want to try to colour my soaps with herbs and vegetables. If I was going to add those natural colourants to this soap, is there anything I should be aware of? Can I go on and add my botanicals on top of your recipe? And what about fragrance? If I don't use fragrance, would the oils have an "oily" smell? Thanks for sharing.
There is no need for fragrance. People say that my unscented soaps smell like "soap," so no oily smell. If you put botanicals on top of your soap, they often turn brown. Wait around 20 minutes to add the botanicals to the top and that helps. I have never had much luck; perhaps that's because I gel my soaps. In soap most botanicals turn brown. Calendula is an exception. Soap colored with natural ingredients often fades when exposed to light. You will just have to research and test it in small batches. Best of luck to you! 💛
You had mentioned the humidity and it taking longer to cure. I live in Illinois with the Ohio River 2 blocks from my house and I had noticed my soaps take longer to be ready to unmold. Do you use a dehumidifier to help??
Yes, that would explain it. I run a fan in the room that I cure my soaps in. Try turning them every few days. You could use a dehumidifier in the same room, just make sure to turn them in that case because they can cure unevenly and bow. Do you use a water discount? I use "25% water as a % of oil weight" in soapcalc. Also, sodium lactate helps especially if you are using lots of olive oil. What is your ratio of saturated to unsaturated fats in the upper right corner of your soapcalc printout? I use 43:57-ish for swirls. Make sure your unsaturated number doesn't go any higher than 57%.
@@TreeMarieSoapworks I will try the fan idea, I just tried the sodium lactate and it worked much better. My water is at 32%, I haven't tried to water discount yet but it is worth a go. The sat: unsat is at 41:59, going to play around with it and get the unsat number lower as per your recommendation. Thank you so much for replying, I am really new to this and it is a lot of fun but can be a bit frustrating when I have batches ruined. Have a wonderful day.
I would decrease the others, but one other thing you can do is to keep it the same and put some color on the bottom and then add the Caribbean Kiss batter, then you will have some design on the bottom.
Hello, I am Korean. To be honest, I don't know English very well. But I was making natural soap, so I found a video. Did you use the white expression as an oxides powder? I tried white, but it didn't show. 😭😭
I wonder something that is not connected to the soap making, just curiosity about the language. Why americans use so much "my" for everything? My butter, my oil, my mold...my my my. I tried to translate it to my language but sound so possessive, we don't use "my" for everything. Is it slang or it's how it should be said?
Can't you just omit the coco butter and shea butter in some of your videos. It just irritating to watch when you just don't have enough Ingredients to make one. Can't you make one without those complex ingredients and with the simple/readily ingredients. Consider this If you bother your subscribers
I pick my ingredients to have a balanced recipe. It needs to be a hard bar but moisturizing. How about you let me know the oils and butters you have available. I have a recipe that I used olive oil, coconut oil, and castor oil, but I don't use that often because I don't consider it to be balanced. ua-cam.com/video/ScKG0HkZTOk/v-deo.html

The only one that doesn't turn brown within or on top of soap eventually are dried Calendula petals. Worth a try.
what do you do with your soap shavings?
Do you use total oil weight for the mica? Or the oil weight you'll use for that colour.
When you add the olive oil to your colorants, is this oil in addition to the calculated oils, or are they included in the total oils for the recipe?
It is in addition (usually). It adds to the superfat.

Hi Teri, if I was to do as suggested to increase the batter Caribbean Kiss from 40 to 70% do I decrease something else or increase my batch size.
I would decrease the others, but one other thing you can do is to keep it the same and put some color on the bottom and then add the Caribbean Kiss batter, then you will have some design on the bottom.
@@TreeMarieSoapworks what a great idea thank you very much for all your help. 😃
Hello! I speak spanish. Whats means PPO or PPS ej: Yellow (1.25t PPO. Thank you so much!!!
Hello, Per Pound of Soap, and Per Pound of Oils 👍
Could you please explain why you put your ruler on a slant when you measure?
I made a video explaining this. I will publish it soon, Kim! 💕
I just realized today that you measured your lye into a coffee filter. Does this cut down on the static problems with lye?
No, I only use that method in the summertime when the humidity is high, otherwise, the static is bad.
@@TreeMarieSoapworks I can definitely see how it would help with humid days! I’ll keep this in mind. Thank you!
Hello, I am Korean. To be honest, I don't know English very well. But I was making natural soap, so I found a video.
Did you use the white expression as an oxides powder? I tried white, but it didn't show. 😭😭
Hello, I used Titanium Dioxide diluted in olive oil.
What is white expressed in?What should I buy in Korea?
It is titanium dioxide in oilve oil.
When will this one be available for purchase?
I just made this this week, so it will be ready in 6 weeks. 😊💕
@@TreeMarieSoapworks perfect! I can't wait!
Mad Oils Yellow Raincoat....you are welcome! Lol!
From which country are you ?
These are so beautiful! Do people use these soaps? I would feel so bad for ruining them!
Thank you so much, Keren. Yes, people use them. They are wonderful. They make great gifts too because they are beautiful and useful. 😊💕
