    Golden has so many mediums - i'm finding it totally overwhelming. I even made test swatches of each medium mixed with heavy body! And even after contacting their very helpful and nice staff I'm still a little overwhelmed!!! Worried i'm not going to be using the mediums correctly but I guess you just have to go for it and see what happens.

      Acrylic mediums are always something "extra" for your painting, getting all of them implies you actually have a use for them (which maybe you do) but it's important to remember that not all of them are going to be useful on every project. Golden actually has a great channel where they demo their products to give you a better understanding of them.

    Is Gac 100 a good wood sealer for a project I have on the go. The wood substrate is maple and ash. I want to seal and level the wood prior to the acrylic flow artwork layer.

    Does GAC 100 eliminate brush strokes?
    I really could use an opinion on any additive or medium to use -- to eliminate brush strokes!!

      If you're mixing with color it will have a similar effect as just using regular fluid paint. Soft bristled brushes will help minimize brush texture as well though. If you don't want to see ANY sign of brush strokes though, the best thing to do is not use a brush at all, but an alternative color applying tool.     can you glazing liquid with oil paints? also, why is this sometimes used at the "size layer" of canvasses when paired with gac 400? great vid!

      While Glazing Liquid can be used as an isolation layer like the GAC 100 it cannot and should not be mixed with oils. Glazing with oils should be done with an oil medium such as linseed or stand oil. As for the GAC 400, I'm not sure of the best uses or applications of that medium as I've never used it myself. A general rule of thumb would be to use acrylic mediums as surface prep only if your goal is to use oil paint.

    I just tested the Golden Glazing Liquid with gold leafing and it worked better on paper than the other methods I used, such as mixing glue with water. I was wondering if I could use it instead of the rabbit glue that is traditionally used for gilding.
    The alternative for rabbit glue is suggested as GAC 100, which I don't have. I also found out (if I am not wrong) the higher the number for the GAC medium, it turns harder. This might perhaps cause cracking?
    Anyway, my latest interest is to succeed in gilding for various projects from mixed media to frame applications.

      While I'm no expert on gold leaf, a good modern adhesive is always worth it over many more traditional/historic options.
      While GAC 100 is a simple fluid extender, the higher numbers in the series are all wildly different products from a film hardener for painting on glass to a heat-setting fabric medium. Golden has a video on their channel explaining all of them which I highly recommend watching.
      While choosing the right medium is certainly important in mixed media applications...cracking is usually caused by inferior adhesives, acceleration of natural dry times and/or a poorly prepared surface before applying media.

You have interesting approaches, which is always a fresh view to things as long as they work, like some diabetes medication working on weight loss or hair loss... kinda true but double swort ends for why not.

      Canvas prints are tricky for sure mostly as they are a noticeably different material than cotton duck or linen. I've only ever painted on one of them once myself and that was with acrylics. So I'm honestly not sure how to even approach the same type of project with oils.

    Oh gosh - I swear I am not an idiot but all of these names are really confusing me. I thought "extender" was the same thing as a "retarder"....extending the time you can work with acrylic paints before they dry. And I thought the active ingredient in an extender/retarder is either polyethylene glycol or glycerine.

    That was great. Thanks. I've always used GAC100 for my finish top coat. Now I live out of the city and it's very hard to find. Any suggestions?? (no, not moving back to the city. Lol)

      I use a spray clear coat myself. A can of Krylon gloss or matte from the local hardware store does the trick most of the time. Generally speaking though acrylics don't "need" a top coat at all, it's just a preference.

    What other brand of Golden satin glazing liquid would you recommend? I cannot find the Golden brand in my country 😢

      Pretty much all major acrylic brands should have a glazing liquid in their lineup. Something similar to the GAC 100 would be called "Fluid Acrylic Extender" or something like that.

      I would say no. Neither are designed to flow through an airbrush and would likely clog. Golden sells "airbrush medium" so I'd look into that one.
