I was 8 years old when this song came out. I am now 51. Still has the EXACT same effect on me. What an amazing song. Consummate professional musicians.
I know what u mean, this song makes me so nestalgic, i am not a dancer at all but i have to dance when i hear this song. Its good to see others love music so much.
Takes me back to when I was dating Paula P. in high school. Took her to prom. She was so beautiful, I was on cloud nine. Thought it might last. Nope. She found her true love later and married him. I found a love of my own. But I always wondered what it could have been like with life with Paula......
1981 was the final year of Glenn Shorrock as the band's vocalist before he left. Little River Band was never the same after he gone. Even John Lennon loved this song so much
Many live performers dont sound like they do in a controlled studio environment, but not these guys. So smooth and Shorrock just flows over the top of it all. Excellent band.
Dont care who agrees with me or not but nobody does this song better than Glenn Shorrock. Nothing fancy, not trying to hit the high notes, he just sings it.
This song means so much to me. So many Friday nights I sat on my back porch celebrating the end of my work week as a nurse smiling and listening to this song late on a Friday night reminiscing
I was fortunate enough to see them live twice in Vancouver around this time. Pretty sure it was 81, so probably on this tour. For me this is my favourite song ever.
I saw them in Medford Oregon in the late 70s. The were touring with Heart and Bob Welch, I have seen countless bands to this day they were by far the best musicians I have ever heard!! One of my favorites song
Goble came up with extended chords that most rock bands wouldn't touch. It's not a usual way of thinking on guitar so I wonder where he got that influence.
Man, I'm a true Southerner here in Huntsville Alabama U.S.A and I can tell you, they are the best band I have ever heard! Nothing here in the U.S.A or anywhere else will ever hold a light to Little River Band!

Jazz legend Glenn Miller who began making records in the 1920s has way more top ten hits than Elvis Presley and way more top ten hits than The Beatles. He would feel happy and proud hearing he's mentioned in such a truly, romantic manner in this song by The Little River Band 5 decades after his songs were first heard on radio.
My dad was a big Glen Miller fan, born in 1919, one of the Greatest Generation. This is such a lovely song on many different levels. I love how LRB incorporated two different generations into this song with the reference to GM and Cole Porter (my dad’s generation) with my own generation, listening to this song as a college student in the late 70’s. Beautiful voice and harmonies. I think Shorrock turns 80 on the 30th. Happy birthday Mr. Shorrock.

Been to the actual Little River. It has fine views of the You Yangs and this guy has been building a cruiser in his backyard there since the band was on the charts. The way Melbourne is growing the Little River Football Club might be reformed!
I'm nitpicking here, but it's interesting that in some spots, he didn't hold the notes out as long as he did in earlier performances (and the studio version). He also rephrased it so as to not have to sing higher notes (in at least one spot: "and as the years roll on"). Don't get me wrong, it's still a great vocal performance.
I saw this LRB (not the phony one that goes around without original members) on the same bill as the Eagles in 1980. You want to know who sounded best? LRB, by a long shot. It was quite a treat...I still remember it well. Australia's courts need to re-address the matter of name-ownership. Such a distinction LRB has conferred upon Australia..and they can't use their name???? This NEEDS to change.
This was the best lineup of a group ever. Such a shame you guys no longer get along with Stophen and Wayne. I'd love to see all of you reunite just once. Much love to you all.
It is August 2024 who is listening to this great band?
Yes, since 1977.
November 2024 now!
@@nomandad2000same here, what an incredible band! Those harmonies! 👨🏾🍳👌🏾
ME, FROM BRAZIL🇧🇷
Hear that everyone? No Auto tune needed! Real Artists, playing and sing Live and it sounds amazing
Auto tune always sounds like junk stop making talentless people famous thank God for real music😅
this is back when we recorded reel to reel. no room for errors.
No click track monotonous crap. Music that moved
Because they have talent.
They should be in the rock and roll hall of fame. Their songs are endless
Timeless ... ;)
Right now hall

Me too I'm 51 shame I never got to see the original members live 😭
It's a great tune and Glen Shorrock absoultely killed the lead vocal and what can you say aboutg the 3 part harmony.
I 💯 agree
Thank you for the update
Damn, Glenn's voice is gold, the song is gold, the harmonies are gold.
What more can you ask for?
amen to that.....that guy can sing and the band is top notch
Solid Gold? Nah just kidding, dead accurate.
exactly
These guys were the EAGLES of Australia......Harmonies, Musicianship, GREAT LIVE BAND< I've seen them BOTH!
Glenn, you're a lucky bugger to be able to sing like that!
The vocal and musical harmonies are pure gold! Not to mention the song writing is tip top!

I could listen to this guy sing anything. Just brilliant.
Try his music with his original Aussie band 'The Twilights;.
They sure dont get the recognition that they should. I love his voice so sexy🤗
Back when the Little River Band was the real Little River Band.
Shorrock's voice is like velvet.
I'm 52 now. This was my first concert ever. I was about 12 years old. I'll never forget it.
Lucky 🍀
This guy Glenn was a great singer. LRB was crazy to push him out in the early 80’s. So many awesome songs with him at the mike.
1981 was the final year of Glenn Shorrock as the band's vocalist before he left. Little River Band was never the same after he gone. Even John Lennon loved this song so much
Liked Glen however what John did with this song was amazing.
John over did it. Always trying to show off
@AWM Yeh only one of the greatest vocalist to ever live. John Farnham did wanders for the band.
@@awm8221 I agree. John was about John. Glenn was in service to the song.

Nobody❤
No one else should sign it but him.
Others might sing it, but he feels it.
A timeless classic. Still holds today. God, why can't they make quality music like this now??
The tightness of these guys is what brings me back, year after year.
I luv this song 🎵

Thanks Vinny, Nice Band. 1981 has a particular sad significance for me and separately Rosemary as well. although we did not meet for another 5 years.
Lead Singer is Outstanding!!!
Glenn Shorrock

People tell me real music is rap but I said listen to this music in a old car 1975 and older
This is music. Classic timeless and love our Australian LRB originals

Pungent memories of my teen years in the 70's. Great era of music.
They harmonized beautifully and Shorrock's lead vocals
Way back when, I didn't realize how powerful the jazz influence is. Nice
Goble came up with extended chords that most rock bands wouldn't touch. It's not a usual way of thinking on guitar so I wonder where he got that influence.
@@em7dim9 I have little doubt that he was was influenced by jazz in his formative years as a musician
@@007ndc the lyrics reference Glenn Miller… I think they liked jazz.
I loved this song. I was 17 in 1981
This is real vocals and harmonies. Real music.
Glad I grew up in this time

Graeham is such an amazing songwriter. I could listen to this ten times a day and it would never get old. Thank you Graeham…
REALLY impressive live vocals and harmonies!
My favourite Australian singer. And I’m Australian so I know them all.
I love the Jazz feel of their music.
Back when you had to be a qualified jazz musician to play rock
The bass line in this song is just so beautiful. Excellent job, Wayne. What a great tune.
One of the last great great bands of our era. BSG are the best. Hope to see them soon. God bless everyone. ✌🏼
Fantastic 2/25/2024
Here are people who simply have sexy calming
voices. And he is one of them.
Aww ❤ Glenn Shorrocks voice like butter🩷
Ahhhh the right voice. This has SO much more character. It's brassy and in the mood. Spot on.

Glenn Shoorock is amazing

Playing a half step higher than the recording....impressive.

And rushed just enough to lose the pocket too!
Because its shot on film i think 24 fps. Replayed at 25FPS (TV) therefore a tad sharp.

Would it turn out right?
How to tell you girl, I want to build my world around you
Wanna tell you that it's true
I wanna make you understand I'm talking about a lifetime plan
Well that's the way it began, we were hand-in-hand
Glen Miller's band was better than before
We yelled and screamed for more
And those Porter's tunes made us dance across the room
It ended all too soon
On the way back home I promised you'd never be alone
Hurry, don't be late
I can't hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park
And reminiscing
