I just finished the Beyond Birthday light novel and I must say it is brilliantly done. I remember the episode when L was talking to the wammy kids and described what he fears most would be a monster who always told lies and that if he ever encountered such a monster he would be eaten by it. ***SPOILER*** BB literally copied L to every odd tendency, behavior and way of thinking; BB's entire being was a lie just as his time solving the case with Misora he continued to lie and was not suspected till the end. The author truly does make you believe that BB is in fact L because of how well he imitated L. Praise BB, the Mad Predecessor lol!
He even copied the name L uses at the start of Death Note to fool Light. Also what's more mysterious is how did BB know what L look liked and how he dresses, what he eats, etc in the present day when no one has seen him.
I just figured out something! The three best detectives, L, Eraldo Coil, and Ryuzaki all use to be real detectives. L as L Lawilet, Eraldo Coil as A, and Ryuzaki as BB (Beyond Birthday) In the end, A committed suicide, BB was killed by Kira when he was in prison, and L took all their names. Then he died...
Personally, i think BB should've replaced Near in the anime Adapation. I know, I know. it's supposed to be accurate to the manga and all, but having a criminal like him face off aganist somebody like Light would've been such a perfect battle.. And it would've made sense for him to use the underhanded tatics Near did to "Win" Aganist Light, even if it risked killing himself. Sadly it didn't happen, and the anime stuck a bit too close to the canon.

Im back after reading the book twice, may I just say that this theme captures the entirety of the book PERFECTLY?! I mean wow this is amazing! Playing this while imagining the scenes like the ending is just amazing. Props to you!
He heavily underestimated the enemy right in front of him. (Naomi misora in this case) with the intent to outwit L first, that was the catalyst of his blatant and predetermined defeat. Pointed out by mello the narrator of the story.

Hah thanks! I'm not a composer myself. I basically used the original L's theme tune and worked off it to make this by editing pitch, tone, cropping parts out etc. Thank you for your comment! I think you should compose a theme too :D It's always interesting to hear other peoples' renditions of what they believe would be a character's theme song.

cmon fuck me emo boy I agree with you, the reveal of Ryuzaki not being L but rather BB isn’t something that could transfer into anime quite as easily. Not to mention that is rather violent for a Death Note story. So all in all it’s better kept within the novel but I really do wish they could pull it off in an anime or manga.
I don't think an anime would be as good as the book, but I still want one so I can see a scene of bb crawling on all fours through a crime scene, or that scene where both naomi and bb sit like L to increase their deduction skills.

I like this theme. It's based on L's so technically a copy, but it has an eerie and more haunting and suspenceful tone to it. The theme best describes Beyonds' character.

In this way there would be no way to verify the identity of the body and L would never be able to catch him.
@Tom Nook To explain this properly it’s going to be a little long, also spoilers obviously... How and why did Beyond Birthday get caught? It was a mixture of pride and underestimation that led to his downfall. Beyond Birthday left various clues at each of the crime scenes. If you pieced them all together it would reveal the next victim. The reason he did this was because he wanted to leave a trail that would lead to an answer that wouldn’t make sense (thereby proving his superiority over L, as the case wouldn’t be solvable). Each victim was killed inside a locked room with special dolls nailed to the wall. As long as there were two dolls available it was possible to exit the room and lock the door from the outside via a string. Therefore, Beyond Birthday planned to use less and less dolls for each victim until there was only one doll left in the room. In this final scenario, he himself would be the victim and would burn himself alive so as to be beyond recognition. By doing this it would disprove the theory that the killer used the string method to lock the doors from the outside because you need at least two dolls for that to work and the final victim only had one doll in the room with him. However, Naomi Misora, who Beyond Birthday did not view as a real threat due to just being L’s stand in, pieced the plan together and caught him in the act (literally putting out the fire after shooting the door open). In other words, Beyond Birthday was caught because of a false sense of superiority that led him to underestimate anyone who wasn’t L.
@Tom Nook You know the drill, spoilers... It’s definitely worth the read, it has that genuine Death Note feel to it that keeps it from feeling like some cheesy spinoff. And yes, L was never actually at the crime scenes or anywhere near Naomi *during* the investigation. Remember the Kira case was an exception, aside from that one scenario L always works from afar.
This novel really NEEDS an anime/ova or movie adaptation, it's just too briliant to be this unknown in the Death Note universe..

I think Mellon’s and near should have worked together and have BB come in and reveal himself after Ls death then there could have been a 3 way battle

cmon fuck me emo boy I agree with you, the reveal of Ryuzaki not being L but rather BB isn’t something that could transfer into anime quite as easily. Not to mention that is rather violent for a Death Note story. So all in all it’s better kept within the novel but I really do wish they could pull it off in an anime or manga.

I don't think an anime would be as good as the book, but I still want one so I can see a scene of bb crawling on all fours through a crime scene, or that scene where both naomi and bb sit like L to increase their deduction skills.
Books are always better than the films. I fully agree. I've read the bb novel and I can say that whoever doesn't is missing out.

Most disturbed character in all of Death Note. I guess it fits that his soundtrack is like a distorted version of L's theme.

Beyond Birthday attempts to make himself the final victim in his string of murders by burning himself alive. In this way there would be no way to verify the identity of the body and L would never be able to catch him.
@Tom Nook To explain this properly it’s going to be a little long, also spoilers obviously...
How and why did Beyond Birthday get caught? It was a mixture of pride and underestimation that led to his downfall. Beyond Birthday left various clues at each of the crime scenes. If you pieced them all together it would reveal the next victim. The reason he did this was because he wanted to leave a trail that would lead to an answer that wouldn’t make sense (thereby proving his superiority over L, as the case wouldn’t be solvable). Each victim was killed inside a locked room with special dolls nailed to the wall. As long as there were two dolls available it was possible to exit the room and lock the door from the outside via a string. Therefore, Beyond Birthday planned to use less and less dolls for each victim until there was only one doll left in the room. In this final scenario, he himself would be the victim and would burn himself alive so as to be beyond recognition. By doing this it would disprove the theory that the killer used the string method to lock the doors from the outside because you need at least two dolls for that to work and the final victim only had one doll in the room with him. However, Naomi Misora, who Beyond Birthday did not view as a real threat due to just being L’s stand in, pieced the plan together and caught him in the act (literally putting out the fire after shooting the door open). In other words, Beyond Birthday was caught because of a false sense of superiority that led him to underestimate anyone who wasn’t L.

It’s definitely worth the read, it has that genuine Death Note feel to it that keeps it from feeling like some cheesy spinoff. And yes, L was never actually at the crime scenes or anywhere near Naomi *during* the investigation. Remember the Kira case was an exception, aside from that one scenario L always works from afar.
