like i never cry over fiction at least not often but the end of deathnote hit me pretty hard. it was almost like i had invested so much time in it seeing all of them die and have there lifes goals end up being meaningless really hurt. i thought about it for days and days afterwards.
@Rithy Kaiser but his crave of becoming a god and be reverenced by all was his breaking point, where he had lost it, and the reason why L managed to track him down. If he had just keept himself killing criminals for the justice he standed for and not to be reverenced as a god, never would be tracked and although anonimaly, would indeed become "the god of the new world".
What i love about this anime is that in the end no one won in my opinion. Light didn't create a better world, L lost Watari,and got killed by his only friend , Chief Yagami died believing that Light wasn't Kira. The task force lost the chief, Misa ended up alone with no purpose eventually commuting suicide, Mellow died, Near lost his mentor L and Mellow, Mikami never helped light create a new world, Takada got killed by Light, Lights Mom lost the chief and light, Lights sister is traumatized, but the worst is Light, Light was a good person, all he wanted was a better world, his heart was in the right place but his way of making that new world was wrong, and in the end he lost and died by the hands of Ryuk. This whole story ends in tragety, eventually the world will become rotten again.
Phil Vic he didn’t because In the special movie he lost his eyesight for eternity, dooming him to eventually die (since he can’t see any names to write in his death note)
What I find so sad about Lights death is how he was running, looking at his past self, knowing he deserves what is coming. He died alone, no Misa, no Takada, no L, no Dad, no Matsuda or the task force that saw Light as a comrade, not even his sister and mother could mourn for him, they didn't even know he was there on that final day. I find that truly and deeply upsetting, the only thing that is not sad is Light Died as Light, and not as Kira. I pretty much sobed my eyes out when Light created in his head that L was being present while he was dying, I mean it is possible L was there in soul/spirit before going to heaven, as L did consider Light a friend and wouldn't want him to die completely alone. Misa later on comitting suicide because she forgot her memories of everything to do with Light being Kira, she also died as Misa and not as a second Kira. Death Note has to be the best fictional anything, the music, story, characters, ending.

L's death was heartbreaking, but he died peacefully, he accepted his death. Before dying, he knew he was right about Kira. While Light was not willing to accept his death, that's why people find his death so painful. He lost completely. The flashbacks make it more tragic, the possibility of him not finding the death note, of him having a bright future. Oh well, as Ryuk said, anyone who's haunted by shinigami is unfortunate (and will not die a happy death). Like Misa, who killed herself on Valentine's Day. How ironic it is given the fact the only thing she cared about was love. She had also used the death note, so her end was also unfortunate.
I think the sadness that comes about from Light's death is that if he never found the death note or chose not to go down the path of Kira he would have probably lived a pretty happy and successful life somewhere. At the end it makes you think of all of the potential that was wasted on this one impossible goal that he tried to make a reality.
Yeah but you could see that he studied academics but really did not show any interest in it at all even though he's doing so well. I think the path of kira turned out to be worth, added a whole lot of action to his somewhat boring life.
I think what Kira tries to do is worthy. Because no one should try to act like God. Kira proved it. And only Kira is the one who can make the phylosophy.
For some reason it made me sadder than L's death even though I loved L more, in fact, he is my favorite character. But there was just something about Light's death, the music, the way he looked when he was running with the sunset, what Ryuk said. It made it sadder somehow, and after all Light did, it just ended there. It made me hurt, because Light just wanted a perfect world, but he couldn't make it happen because we are human. It was just impactful to me.
+seth sims I think only some shinigami actually care about humans. As we can see, Ryuk only stuck with Light because he was bored. There was barely any friendship there. But, it broke my heart, the last scenes because: Light pretty much lost his mind. He wanted to escape, to live and be free, to keep making this a perfect world. He kind of went crazy, he was screaming and yelling "who do you think you're shooting at?!" I think he just lost his train of thought then, and throughout the whole thing he was always so composed.
+Dark Constellations idk I thought light was a freaking psychopath. On a delusional quest to rid the world of what he perceived to be evil but he was so reviled he played himself. Even manipulating himself after he gave up ownership of the notebook the first time. It's pretty sad to see someone with so much potential and a sense of justice manipulate everyone and even himself. Cause he was a pretty like able character when he wasn't influenced by the note book

The scene where light is running made me cry because he regrets picking up the notebook and how better his life would've been if he had not picked the notebook up.
He lived boring life in rotten world.He just saw that he didn't have to die because if he knew he died so young he wouldn't pick up the note.He wanted to live a long life so this is why he looks back at him but he doesn't fully regret because he wanted to change world after all.And he gave his whole life to acomplish nothing in the end? If he knew he didn't die he would do it anyways.

The best way to show a villain is to make you think he's a good guy and that's where Death Note starts to be one of the best series in history. The only villain I rooted for but disliked liking him and the only villain that'd make me cry was Light. He is the BEST villain I've ever seen.
Light yagami is the reason why death note becoming a masterpiece. He is definetely not the beloved one in death note, but without him, death note is just another good detective anime to me, nothing else.
After watching death notes final episode, i remember standing up from my chair , laying in bed looking at the ceiling, trying not to burst on tears after watching its last scene .This episode felt different but man , watching Misa in the train sitting alone not smiling , just hits different . So sad . More than 10 years have past since i first watched death note . I still believe is a gem.
the most painful scene to watch was the time when he's running off and he see's his former innocent self, that made it all so emotional.. damn you Light, you tried bud. :/ I was always cheering for Light the entire time, he did make mistakes, but his end goal was noble and it was proven that under his law the world was at peace. It's been a decade and I still love this anime just as much as I did when I saw that first episode.
i'm not sure.. i think he started out with noble intentions, but the power got to his head and in the end his goal wasn't to cleanse the world but to become the god of a cleansed world...either way i agree, it's an amazing anime
i even take that back, just rewatched the first episode and it's clear that from the start, what he longed for was power. he was bored of this world and the power made it all so much more interesting
TheCoin100 well look at the first episode, he clearly was willing to die for justice because when Ryuk shows up he was willing to offer his soul for using it, so he wasn't entirely out to get power. The guy worked for a living, payed his taxes and lived a normal life, he didn't really miss use it to get rich and get anything materialistic. It's only natural to take out people that will expose you, if you consider the situation he was in, so even though he was in the wrong, I think it's the only choice he had. They could have just stopped and avoided any deaths rather than challenging someone like him.
SeNniN you have a point, and i think it's a tricky matter... maybe that makes it all the more interesting, he isn't all for power, i agree, he isn't completely noble either.. i feel like he felt an immense power as he got the death note, he was absorbed by this power and he felt the responsibility to help the world, which is the noble part of him.. when i referred to episode 1, i was referring to the fact that already moments after he got the death note, he had his 'evil laugh', which suggests to me that he did really enjoy the feeling of power... but as i said, you have a point... it's a freakin amazing show
+TheCoin100 true that brother, it is indeed a brilliant show. That's particularly why I fell in lover with it, the way the characters are shown is really interesting. The same can be said for L, although his motives were to catch Kira and at times he was dead certain it was Light, but it was like he didn't want to believe it either and you can see it through out the anime that it does trouble him that his emotions were getting in the way because he had finally found a friend that truly understood him, just as Light had seen the same for L, but Light's original plan was much bigger than saving a friend. It's like L described it, Light hates to loose, so to reach his goal of ideal world, he accepted and became a complete monster taking out even his own father to reach his goal. The reason he enjoyed it was because he believed in pure justice, and had seen how corrupt the system had become, so he felt great when justice was done to those that are able to get through the system without any penalties. I will however agree, that it does become personal when they come after him, but his initial intentions were always pure, it's like I said he was provoked to act against them or else they would have taken him out. It does seem cruel to say this, but it was self defense for him to take them out. Have you seen Berserk? That's another one of my personal favorite anime and manga along with fma brotherhood, steins gate, Evangelion, Trigun, and cowboy bebop. By the way, do you know about the new Death Note movie coming out soon? It's not animated though, it's an actual movie. I saw the trailer it looks interesting.
That doesn't make Light special in any way. Even Hitler wanted to create a better world. Pol Pot and Mao also wanted a better world. If you give one guy the power to create a better world, he'll make the world better in the way that he sees fit. People are by nature corrupt. The reason why order exists is because people constantly correct each other's mistakes. If the world is run by one guy who wields absolute power, nobody will dare correct his mistakes, and everyone suffers as a result.
*From all the anime I could joke about, death note is the one exception that is just perfect....... the message that it gives us that the ideal world is impossible as we are human beings with hunger of egoism , as long as we exist the world won't be perfect, there will be never a balanced world... A person who just wanted to change the world but got carried away with too much power during the process. Even though it was Light's intention to create a better world for humanity, he forgot and lost his own humanity in the process. While he believed he was saving innocent lives from evil, Light forgot the intrinsic value of life of the individual.

@@Laura-dn1zx L didn't manage to find Kira and think of a way to convict him. Near did. And don't try 'Near had L's information' because he didn't. Near had to find all the information, he just didn't show his face. He, unlike L or Mello, didn't have room for emotion in his calculations.
It sounds weird but it hurt more when Light died then when L died. I rewatched their deaths not long ago and it hurt just as much as the first time. Light's death is so sad. All he wanted was a better world and justice in his own twisted way. Yeah, he was wrong but his heart was in the right place. Even though he was an asshole most of the time he had moments when I Genuinely felt for him.
I felt really hurt too when Light died. Or maybe, I was extremly sad to realize that everything is over, that all the evil deeds he'd been submitted to was all in vain... and all that remained from this killing trip toward a brighter world was... a profound... unbearable solitude. (...after he killed even his family, sacrificed almost everyone he had met... fuck his death was too sad) For this reason, his death made me ten times sadder than L's death. Because by dying, Light took away with him the disappearance of all the people he sacrificed for his relatively noble goal, and WITHOUT achieving it at all. I think that is the feeling I got from this last scene... A piercing feeling of emptines... Infinite solitude, regrets, the meaninglesness of this desperate, final outcome... all of it went right into my chest. (sorry for the mistakes, I'm french!)

And he remember who he was before and maybe think of how good and peaceful those days were. he is not light he used to be, but also not yet the god he wants to be. Man im so sad just to imagine all the feeling inside him at the time. And after he is about to die he still choose to be alone :( owh light...
Ferchii Alice running nowhere by yourself thinking of the past while the sun sets behind you. Walking into some quiet Factory and laying there till you die with nobody around. I would never want to die in such a depressing way. I made the worse decision to watch this episode right before I go to bed. I knew he was going to die but I didn't think it was going to be sad all by himself. Dying like this has to be one of the worst.😞😥 the music doesn't help at all throughout those scenes.
SPOILERS I wasnt that sad when L died , but when the series progressed , the more I missed him. The reason why so many people (Myself Included) found Light's death more sad was because LIGHT IS THE ANIME. We were given flashbacks of the earlier episodes when Light had flashbacks of himself. Light's death was the end of this amazing anime. We cried mainly because it was the end of Death Note.
well, for me, it's because he regrets everything that he has done.. but it was too late for him to repent.. the part of him remembering his past, I know that he has regretted EVERY SINGLE THINGS, that he has done upon using the death note.. he wanted to repent, but he just can't, he's totally screwed.. he knew that it was too late, he knew that he will die soon, he knew that he's totally screwed, even if he's still alive.. he would still be jailed!! and I know that this would be really depressing.. he died as someone known as Kira.. although he's not kira anymore.. he reliezed of what he has done. he died as Light, but died as known as Kira.. that's what make me feels so sad..

I was watching this show again after 7 or 9 years. I remember how much this show influenced me. It feels like I'm back with an old friend. Especially the song in the beginning "death images". It helps. The Sad part about this song is it reminds me that we all meet some sort of "shinigami" in our lives that influences us. I just hope I don't lose at the game I'm playing. In the end it doesn't even matter anyways. Let's just enjoy the show. After rewatching it again I realized how great lights dad was. In a sense his father kills him through matsuda.
i was sort of glad when his father died the way he did, i didn't want to see him have to make the realisation that everything he'd done in defence of his son was for nil
I cried as I understood how lonely and truly broken Light was minutes before the moment of his death. That was when I could see the emptiness and sadness in his eyes for all that he had lost, it was there that he could to understand and finally realize what he himself had caused, but it was too late.
@@ShoSho-cq7ct Maybe that was his downfall though. Maybe he was just meant to be like what he turned out to be anyways.... Sure he was happy (I guess) but with how it ended? I don't think he was happy at all about that. And I think the Light drenched in blood at the end of the series would trade all of what he did as Kira to just be a normal kid again. He only realized that once he was on the verge of death. He said that his dad was a loser, that people like his dad always end up dying or "losing" fighting the good fight. What that tells me is that no matter how insane Light got, he still innately had a good intention. He innately wanted for people like his dad to not have to die. The people on the task force, those are the very people he would have wanted to keep alive. But he was doomed from the beginning. His own dad was investigating him. If he was just some rando whose dad was a normal businessman, no one would have figured it was him. L may not have even found out who he was. But I think regardless of that, Light was sad. Sad because he caused the ruin of his family. And he only realized that at the end. He thought he could sacrifice everything for the sake of the world, but turns out he just couldn't. Deep down he was scared teenager who didn't wanna die or lose. And he paid the price for his mistake.
First one was one of the saddest OSTs in anime history. His father's death was just too much. Im glad my wonderful father is healthy and incredibly kind, but I just cant imagine what life would be like without him. I love him
Even ryuk was so sad, that light his " smartest toy" lost the game. Yes we're toys for such an eternal world where ryuk lives. I feel like these soundtracks also describe the futility and light' s, the cleverest owner of the death note ever, weakness in reaching the god level. This is do sad . I dislike light, but he was also the victim of ryuk's boredom and the more I think how much effort he put to make a "perfect world" the more I feel sorry for him.

Even if I try my hardest, when I hear Rem's theme, I just can' stop my tears. She died bravely, loving a girl that never loved her back. Her story is just pure tragedy,
Death Note is always the first anime I recommend people who want to start anime. It has genius story telling, compelling characters, amazing artwork and soundtrack and a deep philosophical narrative that makes you question your own values and who better than Light and L to represent the dichotomous nature of said values. A brilliant story that leaves you feeling a little unsatisfied, & perhaps emotional, but completely understanding of its necessity. Solid 10/10 and is really high up in my top 10 anime list.
I too started anime with deathnote. And...........now I am not able to complete any other anime... I do start other animes but I lose focus.... And then comeback to youtube to listen these soundtracks and shorts of death note 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

The face of Light in his death seems just a teenager, confuse, inocent, lost... I think that what he was trying to do was just your own justice in world... his intentions wasn't totally mad... and as Ryuki said in the start of death note history... The Death Note is like a curse in the hands of humans... Think with me, Light before Death Note was a popular student and good in any sense... He was a studious smart... proud of his family... A good brother a good son ... he probably never stoled and would never do that... I feel so sad for Misa... Rem... Light's father... Light's mother... sister... L... in my opnion the truly villain was Ryuki... if the book hadn't fallled of the sky... nothing of this would happenned...
seeing light being corrupted throughout the show is so awful and i always cry at his death scene. the scene where ryuk was watching over the city genuinely physically hurt me. and i can understand why people don’t like near, but i personally love him
The brilliance of this anime. In the end looking at his past self and realizes what he has become. Light had a good heart, but having so much power he got consumed by Kira. There will never be anything like this show again. The story, the way anyone can decide who is right and wrong, the music, the big brain moments, the cat and mouse scenery with Light and L, the style and so on.
I absolutely HATED Light the entire time I was watching Death Note. I loved L. And my hatred for Light only grew when he killed L. But when Light died, just- Something just clicked and I lost my shit completely. I started bawling like a baby- it was so sad. Even though I hated Light, I still pitied him and felt terrible when he died.
The one to blame since the start is Ryuku. Fuck it's so sad. I can imagine what would have happened if he wouldn't have let fall his Death Note because of Boredom. Light and L could have been best friends for example... ;_____; my god ;_____;
That's so beautiful. It's like your subconscious communicated with you about how much you truly empathized for Light's ambitions... How he just wanted to rid the world of evil. Even if he had to become that evil just to do it. He had the responsibility of cleansing the entire planet. And he was torn down because of it. Tragic really.
i think the saddest death is L. Because everybody called him freak because of his crime solving hobby except watari. AND befory he went to wammys house he was a orphan with no sign of his parent, he even died without any friends. just lonely guy.
His backstory is sad. Even the task force or police seems got over L death quickly. Ironically only Light remembered and missed L until the end. Even though Light also died lonely, he is remembered and missed by people as kira in manga.
People think Light death is sadder cos Light is the main victim of death note. His intetion is good, but he sacrificed way too much, including his own humanity.The creator said, if Light didnt pick up death note, he would have a bright future, and would become a top-noch police like his father.Death note ruined his life.

Among all the characters of the Death Note, I feel most sorry for light's mother. She lost everything in her life. She lost her husband, her son which she never knew was Kira and daughter was left traumatized in the end, didn't know that whether she recovered or not.
A teenager who started with good motives trying to make the world a better place who fell to his own ironic demise. A father who gave everything including his life, trying to prove his son was not a murderer, only to die believing in his son wrongly. A mother who did nothing wrong, wasn't even involved, never being able to find out the truth of why her husband and son are dead... And she has to live the rest of her life in that darkness. It's really heartbreaking.
I'll never understand how my young teenage heart could handle all the pain and sadness anime brought me, but really...I think it just made me appreciate life and everything it gives that much more.
Xeros light became a shinigami , there is an episode when ryuk explain to a shinigami the history of light , and in the end when ryuk finished , the shinigami wasnt and ryuk understood that he was Light that became a shinigami
Yup. Ryuk says that when a human uses the deathnote, they go to neither heaven or hell. But then he asks Light why that is so. And you know what he anwers ? "Because heaven and hell don't exist."
Rem always hit (and still does) me harder than a plane. I'm not sure why, it's just so perfectly bittersweet, especially with context. I'm just reading these comments, listening to the tracks and crying. Death Note is such a tragic story for like 95% characters involved. It's depressing but makes the story as great as it is. I love that no one won in the end. I also adore the idea of a villain protagonist.
Even though i like L as a character, I was not sad when ge died, because I was hoping for Lights victory, so L had to die... but when Light died, I was so sad... such a great character, abd such a sad end...

After so many years I rewatched Death Note, the beauty of this anime, there's intense and sorrowful moments. To me Light Yagami is a rlly well written character, he starts of as wanting Justice but as he goes deeper he loses his own senses and became a murderer himself . The person they killed was not Light yagami but Kira. Light was a kind hearted smart person who only wanted justice, Kira was a villian who seeked to become a "god" figure to the world and kill everyone in his way. Light was killed by Kira and his sense of "justice". Light yagami had died the moment he started writing in that book. A book by a death god. A book that changed everything. A book called Death Note.
I feel bad for the people that were so upset with L dying that they didn't care about light because then you guys didn't truly get to feel the ending of the anime.
Yeah not only that but i like light more as a character than l he's so badass and smart I mean l is smart as well but lights smartness was shown in more of a graceful way in the show ig. I have always wanted light to win simply because I like his charachter nothing else. I have watched death note twice and botht he times the ending was hella depressing for me
When light died it had me thinking. I was happy but at the same time I was sobbing. All he wanted was for the world to be a better place and for people to be safe. He may have messed up a few times but he just wanted it to be better. The fact that he only used misa and didn't love her back made me upset because she loved him so much. After his death she killed herself on valentines Day because she was alone. Light had a look of guilt on his face and he felt that guilt in the end. He was alone when he died which made it sad, because he had no one to be there with him in his final moments. I think L's spirit was watching over light after he died so he wouldn't be as alone. When he saw his past self it made me feel terrible. Light felt bad for what he did in the end and once you think about it, death note is really sad
It's strange to expect tears to a psychopath mass murderer's death but we all cried when Light died . And just before his death when he saw his former innocent self, a promising young man, and eventually regretted fr what he had become that is when it is impossible to hold tears . Damn I love Light so much T _ T
The ultimate winner and the true main character of death note is ryuk. It started and ended with him. The entire story was a great philosophical journey for us and a story of great entertainment for ryuk. Really makes me wonder what kinda human he would have been.
I had a great prejudice with anime for many years, until I reached quarantine, then I started with death note that my friends always said to be magnificent, I am speechless to describe this anime, what a beautiful work of art, amazing characters, wonderful music, perfect story, I just loved it. I thought L's death was very sad, but Light's death caught me, even though Light is the villain in the story, his development is so perfect that you end up buying the idea of the perfect world he wants to create.

The main reason Light's death on ANIME impacted me was the simple reason he was a lonely person before Ryuk's arrival with Deathnote. Also, as to how things will unfold, Ligth didn't have 100% trustworthy people and the only one who could come close to that was a Shinigami. I believe that was the cause of his arrogance prevailing, and lack of emotional intelligence...
It always comes to me the "breaking bad" of Light, in parallel with Walt: good wills...bad decisions. Two geniuses that fell into darkness because of they proudness and greed. Too focused on their goals to unveil their eyes. They did it because they felt alive doing it, because they had a purpose to perceive...but in the end, was it all worth it?

When Light was Kira, his inner monologue would talk about having to use Misa. Once his memories were taken, L asked him to use Misa to try and get information out of her about the second Kira. Light told L he could never use a woman like that. It goes to show the whole other person he was once he had power. Misa loved both Light and Kira. I think Misa’s story was tragic; Light’s death even resulted in her committing suicide even though Rem expanded her life span beyond normal human years.

Asre Salim there is no heaven or hell in the death note universe as said by ryuk. Thats why it doesnt matter if you use the death note, thats probably why near uses it or is thought by matsuda to use it to kill mikami(Manga)

I always cry when Light sees the image of his younger untroubled self shortly before he dies...
like i never cry over fiction at least not often but the end of deathnote hit me pretty hard. it was almost like i had invested so much time in it seeing all of them die and have there lifes goals end up being meaningless really hurt. i thought about it for days and days afterwards.

@Rithy Kaiser but his crave of becoming a god and be reverenced by all was his breaking point, where he had lost it, and the reason why L managed to track him down. If he had just keept himself killing criminals for the justice he standed for and not to be reverenced as a god, never would be tracked and although anonimaly, would indeed become "the god of the new world".
The manga makes Light's death look pitiful, whereas the anime went for a sappy, fujo ending
What i love about this anime is that in the end no one won in my opinion. Light didn't create a better world, L lost Watari,and got killed by his only friend , Chief Yagami died believing that Light wasn't Kira. The task force lost the chief, Misa ended up alone with no purpose eventually commuting suicide, Mellow died, Near lost his mentor L and Mellow, Mikami never helped light create a new world, Takada got killed by Light, Lights Mom lost the chief and light, Lights sister is traumatized, but the worst is Light, Light was a good person, all he wanted was a better world, his heart was in the right place but his way of making that new world was wrong, and in the end he lost and died by the hands of Ryuk. This whole story ends in tragety, eventually the world will become rotten again.
In the end Ryuk won, because he got his entertainement :D

What I find so sad about Lights death is how he was running, looking at his past self, knowing he deserves what is coming. He died alone, no Misa, no Takada, no L, no Dad, no Matsuda or the task force that saw Light as a comrade, not even his sister and mother could mourn for him, they didn't even know he was there on that final day. I find that truly and deeply upsetting, the only thing that is not sad is Light Died as Light, and not as Kira.
I pretty much sobed my eyes out when Light created in his head that L was being present while he was dying, I mean it is possible L was there in soul/spirit before going to heaven, as L did consider Light a friend and wouldn't want him to die completely alone.
Misa later on comitting suicide because she forgot her memories of everything to do with Light being Kira, she also died as Misa and not as a second Kira.
Death Note has to be the best fictional anything, the music, story, characters, ending.

L's death was heartbreaking, but he died peacefully, he accepted his death. Before dying, he knew he was right about Kira. While Light was not willing to accept his death, that's why people find his death so painful. He lost completely. The flashbacks make it more tragic, the possibility of him not finding the death note, of him having a bright future. Oh well, as Ryuk said, anyone who's haunted by shinigami is unfortunate (and will not die a happy death). Like Misa, who killed herself on Valentine's Day. How ironic it is given the fact the only thing she cared about was love. She had also used the death note, so her end was also unfortunate.

I think the sadness that comes about from Light's death is that if he never found the death note or chose not to go down the path of Kira he would have probably lived a pretty happy and successful life somewhere. At the end it makes you think of all of the potential that was wasted on this one impossible goal that he tried to make a reality.
Yeah but you could see that he studied academics but really did not show any interest in it at all even though he's doing so well. I think the path of kira turned out to be worth, added a whole lot of action to his somewhat boring life.

For some reason it made me sadder than L's death even though I loved L more, in fact, he is my favorite character. But there was just something about Light's death, the music, the way he looked when he was running with the sunset, what Ryuk said. It made it sadder somehow, and after all Light did, it just ended there. It made me hurt, because Light just wanted a perfect world, but he couldn't make it happen because we are human.

He kind of went crazy, he was screaming and yelling "who do you think you're shooting at?!" I think he just lost his train of thought then, and throughout the whole thing he was always so composed.

The best way to show a villain is to make you think he's a good guy and that's where Death Note starts to be one of the best series in history.
The only villain I rooted for but disliked liking him and the only villain that'd make me cry was Light. He is the BEST villain I've ever seen.

After watching death notes final episode, i remember standing up from my chair , laying in bed looking at the ceiling, trying not to burst on tears after watching its last scene .This episode felt different but man , watching Misa in the train sitting alone not smiling , just hits different . So sad . More than 10 years have past since i first watched death note . I still believe is a gem.

the most painful scene to watch was the time when he's running off and he see's his former innocent self, that made it all so emotional.. damn you Light, you tried bud. :/ I was always cheering for Light the entire time, he did make mistakes, but his end goal was noble and it was proven that under his law the world was at peace. It's been a decade and I still love this anime just as much as I did when I saw that first episode.
i'm not sure.. i think he started out with noble intentions, but the power got to his head and in the end his goal wasn't to cleanse the world but to become the god of a cleansed world...either way i agree, it's an amazing anime
i even take that back, just rewatched the first episode and it's clear that from the start, what he longed for was power. he was bored of this world and the power made it all so much more interesting
TheCoin100 well look at the first episode, he clearly was willing to die for justice because when Ryuk shows up he was willing to offer his soul for using it, so he wasn't entirely out to get power. The guy worked for a living, payed his taxes and lived a normal life, he didn't really miss use it to get rich and get anything materialistic. It's only natural to take out people that will expose you, if you consider the situation he was in, so even though he was in the wrong, I think it's the only choice he had. They could have just stopped and avoided any deaths rather than challenging someone like him.
SeNniN you have a point, and i think it's a tricky matter... maybe that makes it all the more interesting, he isn't all for power, i agree, he isn't completely noble either.. i feel like he felt an immense power as he got the death note, he was absorbed by this power and he felt the responsibility to help the world, which is the noble part of him.. when i referred to episode 1, i was referring to the fact that already moments after he got the death note, he had his 'evil laugh', which suggests to me that he did really enjoy the feeling of power... but as i said, you have a point... it's a freakin amazing show
+TheCoin100 true that brother, it is indeed a brilliant show. That's particularly why I fell in lover with it, the way the characters are shown is really interesting.
The same can be said for L, although his motives were to catch Kira and at times he was dead certain it was Light, but it was like he didn't want to believe it either and you can see it through out the anime that it does trouble him that his emotions were getting in the way because he had finally found a friend that truly understood him, just as Light had seen the same for L, but Light's original plan was much bigger than saving a friend. It's like L described it, Light hates to loose, so to reach his goal of ideal world, he accepted and became a complete monster taking out even his own father to reach his goal.
The reason he enjoyed it was because he believed in pure justice, and had seen how corrupt the system had become, so he felt great when justice was done to those that are able to get through the system without any penalties. I will however agree, that it does become personal when they come after him, but his initial intentions were always pure, it's like I said he was provoked to act against them or else they would have taken him out. It does seem cruel to say this, but it was self defense for him to take them out.

That doesn't make Light special in any way. Even Hitler wanted to create a better world. Pol Pot and Mao also wanted a better world. If you give one guy the power to create a better world, he'll make the world better in the way that he sees fit. People are by nature corrupt. The reason why order exists is because people constantly correct each other's mistakes. If the world is run by one guy who wields absolute power, nobody will dare correct his mistakes, and everyone suffers as a result.

Even though it was Light's intention to create a better world for humanity, he forgot and lost his own humanity in the process. While he believed he was saving innocent lives from evil, Light forgot the intrinsic value of life of the individual.

It sounds weird but it hurt more when Light died then when L died. I rewatched their deaths not long ago and it hurt just as much as the first time. Light's death is so sad. All he wanted was a better world and justice in his own twisted way. Yeah, he was wrong but his heart was in the right place. Even though he was an asshole most of the time he had moments when I Genuinely felt for him.
I felt really hurt too when Light died. Or maybe, I was extremly sad to realize that everything is over, that all the evil deeds he'd been submitted to was all in vain... and all that remained from this killing trip toward a brighter world was... a profound... unbearable solitude.
(...after he killed even his family, sacrificed almost everyone he had met... fuck his death was too sad)
For this reason, his death made me ten times sadder than L's death.
Because by dying, Light took away with him the disappearance of all the people he sacrificed for his relatively noble goal, and WITHOUT achieving it at all. I think that is the feeling I got from this last scene... A piercing feeling of emptines... Infinite solitude, regrets, the meaninglesness of this desperate, final outcome... all of it went right into my chest. (sorry for the mistakes, I'm french!)

Ferchii Alice running nowhere by yourself thinking of the past while the sun sets behind you. Walking into some quiet Factory and laying there till you die with nobody around. I would never want to die in such a depressing way. I made the worse decision to watch this episode right before I go to bed. I knew he was going to die but I didn't think it was going to be sad all by himself. Dying like this has to be one of the worst.😞😥 the music doesn't help at all throughout those scenes.

SPOILERS I wasnt that sad when L died , but when the series progressed , the more I missed him. The reason why so many people (Myself Included) found Light's death more sad was because LIGHT IS THE ANIME. We were given flashbacks of the earlier episodes when Light had flashbacks of himself. Light's death was the end of this amazing anime. We cried mainly because it was the end of Death Note.

but it was too late for him to repent.. the part of him remembering his past, I know that he has regretted EVERY SINGLE THINGS, that he has done upon using the death note.. he wanted to repent, but he just can't, he's totally screwed.. he knew that it was too late, he knew that he will die soon, he knew that he's totally screwed, even if he's still alive.. he would still be jailed!! and I know that this would be really depressing..

I was watching this show again after 7 or 9 years. I remember how much this show influenced me. It feels like I'm back with an old friend. Especially the song in the beginning "death images". It helps. The Sad part about this song is it reminds me that we all meet some sort of "shinigami" in our lives that influences us. I just hope I don't lose at the game I'm playing. In the end it doesn't even matter anyways. Let's just enjoy the show. After rewatching it again I realized how great lights dad was. In a sense his father kills him through matsuda.

i was sort of glad when his father died the way he did, i didn't want to see him have to make the realisation that everything he'd done in defence of his son was for nil
I cried as I understood how lonely and truly broken Light was minutes before the moment of his death. That was when I could see the emptiness and sadness in his eyes for all that he had lost, it was there that he could to understand and finally realize what he himself had caused, but it was too late.
But he found a cause that made him feel alive. I wonder if he would be truly happy as a normal student with a normal family.

@@ShoSho-cq7ct Maybe that was his downfall though. Maybe he was just meant to be like what he turned out to be anyways.... Sure he was happy (I guess) but with how it ended? I don't think he was happy at all about that. And I think the Light drenched in blood at the end of the series would trade all of what he did as Kira to just be a normal kid again. He only realized that once he was on the verge of death. He said that his dad was a loser, that people like his dad always end up dying or "losing" fighting the good fight. What that tells me is that no matter how insane Light got, he still innately had a good intention. He innately wanted for people like his dad to not have to die. The people on the task force, those are the very people he would have wanted to keep alive.
But he was doomed from the beginning. His own dad was investigating him. If he was just some rando whose dad was a normal businessman, no one would have figured it was him. L may not have even found out who he was. But I think regardless of that, Light was sad. Sad because he caused the ruin of his family. And he only realized that at the end. He thought he could sacrifice everything for the sake of the world, but turns out he just couldn't. Deep down he was scared teenager who didn't wanna die or lose. And he paid the price for his mistake.
First one was one of the saddest OSTs in anime history. His father's death was just too much. Im glad my wonderful father is healthy and incredibly kind, but I just cant imagine what life would be like without him. I love him

Even ryuk was so sad, that light his " smartest toy" lost the game. Yes we're toys for such an eternal world where ryuk lives. I feel like these soundtracks also describe the futility and light' s, the cleverest owner of the death note ever, weakness in reaching the god level. This is do sad . I dislike light, but he was also the victim of ryuk's boredom and the more I think how much effort he put to make a "perfect world" the more I feel sorry for him.

Death Note is always the first anime I recommend people who want to start anime. It has genius story telling, compelling characters, amazing artwork and soundtrack and a deep philosophical narrative that makes you question your own values and who better than Light and L to represent the dichotomous nature of said values. A brilliant story that leaves you feeling a little unsatisfied, & perhaps emotional, but completely understanding of its necessity. Solid 10/10 and is really high up in my top 10 anime list.

The face of Light in his death seems just a teenager, confuse, inocent, lost... I think that what he was trying to do was just your own justice in world... his intentions wasn't totally mad... and as Ryuki said in the start of death note history... The Death Note is like a curse in the hands of humans... Think with me, Light before Death Note was a popular student and good in any sense... He was a studious smart... proud of his family... A good brother a good son ... he probably never stoled and would never do that... I feel so sad for Misa... Rem... Light's father... Light's mother... sister... L... in my opnion the truly villain was Ryuki... if the book hadn't fallled of the sky... nothing of this would happenned...

The brilliance of this anime. In the end looking at his past self and realizes what he has become. Light had a good heart, but having so much power he got consumed by Kira.
There will never be anything like this show again. The story, the way anyone can decide who is right and wrong, the music, the big brain moments, the cat and mouse scenery with Light and L, the style and so on.

That's so beautiful. It's like your subconscious communicated with you about how much you truly empathized for Light's ambitions... How he just wanted to rid the world of evil. Even if he had to become that evil just to do it. He had the responsibility of cleansing the entire planet. And he was torn down because of it. Tragic really.

His backstory is sad. Even the task force or police seems got over L death quickly. Ironically only Light remembered and missed L until the end. Even though Light also died lonely, he is remembered and missed by people as kira in manga.
People think Light death is sadder cos Light is the main victim of death note. His intetion is good, but he sacrificed way too much, including his own humanity.The creator said, if Light didnt pick up death note, he would have a bright future, and would become a top-noch police like his father.Death note ruined his life.

Among all the characters of the Death Note, I feel most sorry for light's mother. She lost everything in her life. She lost her husband, her son which she never knew was Kira and daughter was left traumatized in the end, didn't know that whether she recovered or not.
A teenager who started with good motives trying to make the world a better place who fell to his own ironic demise.
A father who gave everything including his life, trying to prove his son was not a murderer, only to die believing in his son wrongly.
A mother who did nothing wrong, wasn't even involved, never being able to find out the truth of why her husband and son are dead... And she has to live the rest of her life in that darkness. It's really heartbreaking.
I'll never understand how my young teenage heart could handle all the pain and sadness anime brought me, but really...I think it just made me appreciate life and everything it gives that much more.
Then it's a good thing if you appreciate life.

Rem always hit (and still does) me harder than a plane. I'm not sure why, it's just so perfectly bittersweet, especially with context.
I'm just reading these comments, listening to the tracks and crying. Death Note is such a tragic story for like 95% characters involved. It's depressing but makes the story as great as it is. I love that no one won in the end. I also adore the idea of a villain protagonist.
Even though i like L as a character, I was not sad when ge died, because I was hoping for Lights victory, so L had to die... but when Light died, I was so sad... such a great character, abd such a sad end...

Light only died physically from the wounds. He created Kira, and Kira changed the world (in the show). Therefore Light lives on with Kira.

After so many years I rewatched Death Note, the beauty of this anime, there's intense and sorrowful moments.
To me Light Yagami is a rlly well written character, he starts of as wanting Justice but as he goes deeper he loses his own senses and became a murderer himself . The person they killed was not Light yagami but Kira. Light was a kind hearted smart person who only wanted justice, Kira was a villian who seeked to become a "god" figure to the world and kill everyone in his way. Light was killed by Kira and his sense of "justice". Light yagami had died the moment he started writing in that book. A book by a death god. A book that changed everything. A book called Death Note.
L past song with L's death is heartbreaking 💔💔
I feel bad for the people that were so upset with L dying that they didn't care about light because then you guys didn't truly get to feel the ending of the anime.

When light died it had me thinking. I was happy but at the same time I was sobbing. All he wanted was for the world to be a better place and for people to be safe. He may have messed up a few times but he just wanted it to be better. The fact that he only used misa and didn't love her back made me upset because she loved him so much. After his death she killed herself on valentines Day because she was alone. Light had a look of guilt on his face and he felt that guilt in the end. He was alone when he died which made it sad, because he had no one to be there with him in his final moments. I think L's spirit was watching over light after he died so he wouldn't be as alone. When he saw his past self it made me feel terrible. Light felt bad for what he did in the end and once you think about it, death note is really sad
It's strange to expect tears to a psychopath mass murderer's death but we all cried when Light died . And just before his death when he saw his former innocent self, a promising young man, and eventually regretted fr what he had become that is when it is impossible to hold tears . The ultimate winner and the true main character of death note is ryuk. It started and ended with him. The entire story was a great philosophical journey for us and a story of great entertainment for ryuk. Really makes me wonder what kinda human he would have been.
I had a great prejudice with anime for many years, until I reached quarantine, then I started with death note that my friends always said to be magnificent, I am speechless to describe this anime, what a beautiful work of art, amazing characters, wonderful music, perfect story, I just loved it. I thought L's death was very sad, but Light's death caught me, even though Light is the villain in the story, his development is so perfect that you end up buying the idea of the perfect world he wants to create.
You should watch Shingeki No Kyojin, it's as amazing as Death Note.

The main reason Light's death on ANIME impacted me was the simple reason he was a lonely person before Ryuk's arrival with Deathnote. Also, as to how things will unfold, Ligth didn't have 100% trustworthy people and the only one who could come close to that was a Shinigami. I believe that was the cause of his arrogance prevailing, and lack of emotional intelligence...

When Light was Kira, his inner monologue would talk about having to use Misa. Once his memories were taken, L asked him to use Misa to try and get information out of her about the second Kira. Light told L he could never use a woman like that. It goes to show the whole other person he was once he had power. Misa loved both Light and Kira. I think Misa’s story was tragic; Light’s death even resulted in her committing suicide even though Rem expanded her life span beyond normal human years.
