Replacing the ignition lock cylinder on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ

Thanks for this, worked great. A thing that’s critical and not super clear from the instructions is using the key to put the XJ in run, removing old cylinder BEFORE using the key to set the new Dorman cylinder. Not a problem if you have an extra key but if you don’t 😬

I Have A 2000 Jeep Cherokee Had The Same Issue Key Would Not Turn So I Didn't Have A Hammer Handy Or A Screwdriver I Did Find A Misc.LugNut Hit The Back Of My Key 5 Times With It & It Cranked Over.....🤣🤣🤣THANKS!!!!!

Hey man. Hope you doing well. This happened to me today and also the key cant be pulled out. Where did you get that new socket and is it valid with all the jeep keys?. Mine is a 4 door 2000 jeep cherokee XJ limited 2.5 Turbo diesel
Got this at the parts store, and it should fit any Jeep with this type of ignition lock cylinder. Hit the key several times, think it's stuck between on and off, and that might be why it's not working. Does anyone know what to do now. My windows are stuck down. Do I need to replace the entire ignition?

Same key! The lock cylinder is “keyed” or programmed to your original key by turning it in the cylinder a couple times.
Where did you get the oem key I’m needing to do this to my 98 xj
