  • A review of the various false statements made by Thom Pollard that relate to the Mallory and Irvine's climb to demonstrate that he is not a reliable source to convey "information" from anonymous sources.
Reviews his stepping over dying climbers on his way to the summit, lifting a story from Dave Hahn, taking photographs of George Mallory's face, and taking credit for things he did not do.

@@michaeltracy2356 heres what I asked Thom on his channel a few days ago: "@EverstMystery will you do a video or discussion regarding or ideally WITH Michael Tracy? He has made some very concerning observations on many aspects of people involved and details of this saga and exposed plenty of conflicting stories and half truths from all parties concerned. I think you are clearly a warm good person and Michael perhaps comes across as a more cold forensic type of individual/presonality, But to his credit he cares about the truth ruthlessly and that is a virtue and not a negative and if "nicer" seeming people are not being completely upfront than it begs the question WHO are the, honest and good people then? If we are not promoting truth and twisting narratives then we are not good human beings, period. If there is truly nothing to hide, yourself and others involved should address these concerns and his videos that alot of people are watching and clearly are highly unlikely to be fabrications at this point!"

This video does not get into the analysis of the drone photo as originally planned. This analysis requires an understanding that there are other people looking for Irvine who do not publicize their plans nor disclose what they find, and I decided not to get into that at this time. Suffice to say, if Irvine was "removed" or "pushed down" or anything else, it was probably not by the Chinese but any one of the other groups that are secretly searching for Irvine for their own purposes.
The easiest way to tell if Irvine was "removed" or "pushed down" would be to look at various photos from low snow years and see if an object is there one year and missing in later years. While the drone photos would be useful, photos of the key area below the ice axe taken by people who have been there would be much more useful. And the people who have been there refuse to release any photos while still maintaining that the "Chinese" removed Irvine.

I wondered after the last video what Pollard does for a living. Wonder even more now. Whatever the answer to that question, he certainly seems to have a large personal stake in playing up his role in the Mallory expedition, and in his ongoing role in the Mallory/Irvine community online. Whether his motives are for money, fame (such as it is), or both, he looks like one of the really slimy actors in this drama. Ultimately I don’t care what kind of person he is, but I do care that he has made this mystery harder to solve.

    • @michaeltracy2356
      @michaeltracy2356  4 місяці тому +15

More complex is that he strongly believes they didn't make it and has been saying that for a long time -- he states as much in his 2017 presentation.
Why would someone want to go to Everest, climb around looking for a body, and then rummage through the belongings of a dead man just so they could "prove" he didn't make it? I just don't see the motivation. You aren't going to get a lot of money for a camera with no photos taken. You aren't going to sell a lot of books with a finding that they didn't make it.
But they definitely have made things more difficult.

There is a video of the whole thing, so it is not the lack of the ability to document -- it is the unwillingness to do so. These people were not there for "research" or academic reasons. It was a for-profit endeavor and these individuals were all professional photographers who want to make money selling photos. That one of them wants to pretend he is trying to "solve" the mystery is where the problems come from. They were paid to go there and they expect to be paid for their "work." No problem with that except they get very upset when people point this out.

I don't remember if you've addressed this before, but at some point (a later video, whenever) are you planning to expand a bit on *why* the anti-summit crew is so insistent on it?
Maybe I'm too much of a historian and not enough of an Everest political scientist, but I would think discovering they did summit wouldn't cause a massive shakeup. It seems like a lot of energy is being wasted (by them specifically) on trying to disprove that they successfully summited. Everything you've provided so far has made sense, but it's that question I keep coming back to.

Not finding rocks on Mallory is in no way an indication they did not summit. When you look just a little bit deeper it becomes apparent that Mallory and/or Irvine would, most likely, have collected rocks from their high point, (like Norton, Hilary, the Chinese in 1960 and even Thom himself) regardless of whether that was the summit. So it should have been more a question of - 'are the rocks they are carrying from their high point, from the summit. Unless, they fell before their high point, but as it we can be fairly sure from the known data they were descending that one can be largely discounted. So either just Irvine has the rocks, the 1999 team missed the silver bullet when searching Mallory or both Mallory and Irvine forgot a key aim of the expedition.

While I understand some people don't like this type of video and I certainly do not like making them, this video has 30,000 views in its first day and I received over 10,000 new subscribers in that same day. It seems people do not like charlatans, but they lack the time to be able to sort out what is true and what is yak dung. But thanks for commenting -- that helps the "algorithm."

Synnott is either in China currently or just got back, so there is something going on. Most likely there will be some type of information forthcoming as Synnott didn't go over there to shop in the museum gift shop.

I`ve no reason to doubt Hahn`s sincerity regards George and Sandy, but mid way through that interview clip you hear a person cackling with laughter in the background, it just kind of summed up the whole sordid affair. Also, Michael, a request of sorts, Audrey Salkeld died last November, I wondered if you had any thoughts on her contributions to the `mystery`.

    • @michaeltracy2356
      @michaeltracy2356  4 місяці тому +3

In term of scholarship, Salkeld has the same problem as the other early researchers. She claims to have spend significant time at the Royal Geographic Society Archives. As she lived in England, she has easy access to all the source material. And yet she missed the obvious things that jumped out even on my short time there -- Norton's conflicting accounts, the missing dispatch from Odell, the extensive description of oxygen bottle caching, that Irvine's known ice axe didn't have the "tripple nicks", and the issue of summit rocks -- the Alpine Club having a paperweight created from an Everest rock.
It is also difficult to believe that between Holzel, Hemmleb, and Salkeld, not one of them read John Noel's book about the expedition where he writes what Mallory told him about the route. It is not hidden away in come obscure footnote. It is in the section talking about the final climb and it is difficult to believe that none of them noticed this.
Looking at her other works, they also come across as biased and agenda setting. Her "Portrait of Lena Riefenstahl" shows her obsession with "German Thought." She views National Socialism as this great achievement that was somehow muddied by a cartoonish Hitler. She paints that period as some great renaissance that would have been perfect if it just hadn't been from that childish Hitler and his "racism." -- She was apparently unaware that in 1936, the United States segregated many of its public business facilities (hotels, restaurants) by race. Her main source for her book is Riefenstahl herself, so it is hardly a critical analysis and she buys all the propaganda told her by a master propagandist.
Ultimately, the early misdirections and complete lack of any critical analysis hurt the "mystery" far more than it helped. The Chinese had found Mallory in 1975 and published the location in 1996. It was only a matter of time until someone found the body. However, as she was a somewhat respected author and she worked with Holzel, this gave the charlatan Holzel far more credibility than his "fan fiction" research was worth. Without Salkeld and Holzel, I think the "mystery" would have been solved long ago.

"The dog that didn't bark" was a key clue in a Sherlock Holmes story. It seems to me that "the oxygen gear that hasn't been found" might be an important clue to Mallory's and Irvine's adventure, supporting the idea that they went via the zig zag route, which is pretty much unexplored..

    • @michaeltracy2356

Could be. But the Chinese reported finding oxygen equipment at about 8700m -- which would be around the third step. Of course, the "they didn't make it crowd" believes every word from the Chinese except this. I don't really make too much of it, but there is the possibility that Chinese found the equipment -- which means we will never see it.

Because he has publicly stated numerous times that he dug up the body. While he has not used the word "looted," he did take items from the body, such as the watch, the boots, and George Mallory's underwear. The watch and the boots are at the RGS and I have personally seen them. The photo Thom released taken on May 16 shows the boot still on, so logic would dictate the boot was removed some time after that photo was taken. The photo is on page 338 of The Third Pole and clearly states it is from Thom Pollard.
Exactly why are you confused about this issue? Did someone tell you he didn't dig up the body? Who told you that he didn't take items from the grave?
I link to the Alpine Club statement that says he damages the body. Do you think the Alpine Club just made that up? I show the direct text in the Third Pole about him not properly burying the body. What exactly are you confused about?
In public statements, Thom as claimed he found a "note" in Mallory's pocket. No other record of this "note" exists. The papers found in Mallory's pockets on May 1 have been turned in an accounted for. If Thom did find a "note" in Mallory's pocket as he says he did, he as kept it or otherwise disposed of it with no other record of it existing. You should ask Thom what happened with the "note" he claims to have found in Mallory's pockets because it is not with any archive.

    • @michaeltracy2356
      @michaeltracy2356  4 місяці тому +1

A few guys did go look for him. Numerous times. I went in 2018. But you need to have a low snow year and that means being able to deploy quickly or just put smaller teams on the mountain year after year, as you will get a low snow year about 1/10 of the time.
A good explanation is that they would lie about having found him. They lied in 1999 about having found him to keep it secret until it could be officially released -- just a day or two.
There are other explanations but we are left with the bizarre circumstances that no one from the 2019 teams will release any of their photos of the snow ledge at 8350m. In a heavy snow year, unless you are going to spend significant time clearing snow, you are probably wasting your time.
If they did find them, it is important for people to know that these individuals are not the "heroes" that found him. They deliberately misrepresent things, take credit for stuff they didn't do, and have an extreme bias against Mallory and Irvine having made the summit.
Thus, even if they have found Irvine, exposing their lies is necessary for Mallory and Irvine's actual story to be told. But "Oh, we found him, they tried the Second Step, didn't make it and died" will no longer be accepted by enough people to be passed off.
Their "Chinese removed the body" videos get the most views, so it should hardly be a mystery why they peddle a new version of it every year.

There are a variety of different groups looking. Assuming the worst, they would remove the body to cover up what they did -- which would be to rob the body and keep everything for themselves. People do this with looted art and artifacts all the time. No reason to believe Everest is any different than any other archeological site on the planet.
Assuming Irvine was not moved/burried/etc, wherever he is most likely is covered is snow most of the time. It is unlikely someone would just stumble across him unless it was during a very low snow year.
However, it is best to stick to what we do know. Jamie McGuinness visited the 8350m location in 2012 and took pictures. He will not release them. Mark Synnott visited the 8350m location in 2019 and had a camera with him. He has not stated whether he took photos, and, of course, has not released any. Mark Synnott specifically called me up and talked to me about that location prior to his expedition.
There were multiple drone flights in 2019 and no detail photos of that area have been released despite Mark Synnott writing in his book they would be released at the museum exhibit -- the exhibit came and went -- no photos.
Based on all the secrecy and mystery around one very specific location on the mountain which just happens to be below the ice axe, probably the mystery and secrecy is not because there is nothing there.

Did you have any information from the sherpas?
There’s information missing from your videos

There were no sherpas there when Mallory was re-discovered by Conrad Anker on May 1st. Nor were there Sherpas there when Thom dug the body up and photographed the face.
My videos do not contain a listing of the periodic tables of elements nor any number of other pieces of scientific information. However, if there is some relevant information to the subject, perhaps just state what it is rather than playing coy and having people wonder if you are just a troll.

In most countries, it is illegal, and they made a video game and movie called Tomb Raider -- which is about stealing from the dead.

I have a lot questions to Sherpa outbursts? Maybe you want enlighten me as well on outburst directed at Ueli Steck, John Griffith and others in 2017?
Sounds like they were out of line?
They should reflect how lucky they are!!
I would like to see no inexperienced ever guided on the mountain again!!!!
Commercialized ascents dry up and then they can reflect. Guides from other countries in the world have gone into and continue to go teach them skills involved with climbing. Yet I get a sense they want to take it over or demand they are included in everything.

There is the basic conflict under a lot of these -- Sherpas climb for a living. So when Messner, or Steck, or another high profile climber comes and wants to do things without Sherpas, we all look on that with admiration. And the Sherpas look on it with utter contempt.
It is like going over to someone's house for dinner and than insisting that you cook your own food.
There is a just a reality of climbing in the Himalayans. All the calls to remove "amateur" climbers and just have people do it themselves without any Sherpa support just piss off the Sherpas. If you want to go there by yourself do it Messner in 1980 -- not a single person on the mountain. Don't go to the standard base camp with hundreds of sherpas carrying supplies putting in ladders and fixing ropes, climb up to the where the ropes aren't fixed yet and start to fix the ropes for the camera.
It is just basic human respect that a person has a job, they want to do that job, and be recognized for the skill they bring. None of these "professional climbers" respect that. They have never worked a day in their life, and for a class of people who work hard every single day, there is going to be some resentment.

What the exact issues with the Sherpas? You made 3 videos and didn’t explain what the Sherpas we’re allowed or not allowed to do or go versus where sherpas did.
Furthermore if sherpa were requested to aid the team to the summit that’s not even an issue.
Are you saying the sherpas were asked to cross the border into china and follow the team.
Or the sherpas took it upon themselves and follow team? Or they would not let Mark or the team separate from them ( sherpas ) ?
Yes you included film and pictures but excluded so much information.
    Include a map with
    Irving and Mallory’s route
    99 route finding Mallory
    2019 search for Irving
Borderline In which Nepal sherpas could not go
“Hypothetical “ route they maybe have gone ?
Mark’s deviation separation from the team and travel, his route?
All overlaying one map, different colors and labels point out what, how, where, when and why the controversy exists.
Three videos of he said versus he said but never outline the controversy.
So the sherpas went somewhere they were not supposed to?
Or Mark went somewhere he wasn’t supposed to?
Or team and sherpas together went somewhere they were not supposed?
    What exactly is bothering you?
    They cross the Chinese border?
Or you think they found Irving and didn’t report it?
Or they didn’t find Irving and wish they did?
Correct me if I’m wrong? Mark says no Irving and Chinese government says no Irving.

It is more my. disappointment in my own personal failures. I like to think these videos are about more than just knowing some obscure information about and expedition and that they present a way to look at deception and not be fooled. But it appears that is just my own naive thinking.

@@michaeltracy2356I had this long diatribe prepared for this response. I was angry at your pettiness, and then I realized that you did me a favor. Your discord channel is toxic and I have some advice for you. You are not right about everything, and the sooner you realize this and have some humility the sooner your discord group will be an actual team. I sincerely wish you luck in your endeavors. I think you have some great information for people here on UA-cam to digest and you also have some very smart people on your channel, do some team building and build some trust so that people can actually voice their opinions without being banned.
