  • It's soul crushing when this happens. After the roof gets approved and the homeowner says, "When can you give me your estimate?" Anger boils over. How did this miscommunication happen? Are they taking advantage of me? Am I about to lose this sale?

Are there other reasons this happens that I didn't talk about?

Yeah. This year an owners buddy is a GC and he met with the adjuster and got a 68 hundred dollar claim. He called us through a referral. I went out there inspected the whole property (little hobby farm) made an estimate on xactimate with photos. I ended up getting him 68 thousand and he called his buddy the GC back.

good points, i always educate the homeowner on how the estimate or scope of work is built by the insurance company thru exactimate, before i even do the inspection. Seems to help.

I'm fine talking to potential customers, but in front of a camera or my wife, I really struggle and get lost in my own head. It's like I have reverse social anxiety. Instead of role playing, I've started recording audio when I talk to homeowners after an inspection, and listen to it later to find areas where I can improve.

It's just part of the game. Make eye contact explain if you get the roof bought for them you expect to get the work and shake hands. Usually works out.

We supply an estimate before we meet with the insurance adjuster. Eliminate the hurdle ahead of time. If you have already estimated the roof, once they receive the paperwork it easy to show the what will need to be supplemented for.

Rock on! If it ain't broke - don't fix it :) Sounds like it's working well. I know quite a few companies who do that successfully as well.

Here's why I'm asking for an estimate...
The contingency agreement doesn't cover everything. It doesn't cover upgrades. I need to know what my out-of-pocket is going to cost.
What if the insurance doesn't cover it?... The contingency agreement says I'm liable.
Lots of hail here. I want class 4 shingles.
I have squirrel problems.. I need vents that are squirrel proof.
I have brand new vinyl siding... Now I'm calling my own people to deal with the vinyl siding work that needs to be done... The lower j channel removal. Does the insurance cover this? I don't know now I'm calling the insurance company.
I am doing way more than just picking colors .
I never should have signed that contingency agreement.

Adam, I've been thinking on your video this morning and just listened to Chris Voss on trust. Yes I know I sound like a broken record but I think there are some crumbs of trust formula in "give me an estimate" as well. Trust and communication go hand in hand. I won't belabor here but I think it's part of the same formula.

I could see that case! Read every situation for what it is and respond accordingly! I love how critical you think about things, Joe. That's a very fine character trait!

As a consumer who has no problem paying for his deductible out of pocket, and not trying to pocket the difference, an estimate allows ME to see how much $ is leftover for "upgrades" instead of roofing company to gain more profit. Roofers that just want to work off insurance quote instead of giving an estimate is always a red flag

How? That’s all I do and it works out great for everyone

    • @oberweiss7190
      @oberweiss7190 4 місяці тому

It is funny… How does it work out great? You do minimum of work for max profit because most people are dumb as a rock. Don’t worry! People are waking up to the scam! The scam is that you ALWAYS estimate the same amount as insurance and push for the cheapest materials and least amount of fixing under the covers so you can inflate profit. That’s not so great for all is it?
It is time people wake up and put an end to this shady business practice. Come do an assessment and give an estimate explaining all the materials and option for upgrade. You do that and bam I am in the drivers seat to understand wtf is being done and how much each item is. We then take your assessment and compare with insurance to see what they might have missed and what you might have missed. We adjust, potentially submit a supplement and the shit gets done right. You instead just want full control and do only what the claim says and even ask for more money by claiming different discrepancies in how stuff was estimated. It’s a game! Not playing it sorry! Be honest and transparent.

the insurance estimate is what they are paying for the customer to get their roof fixed, or replaced, thats the insurance expectation for the customer, that is what they should spend unless they, insurance, misses something, when the customer pockets money isnt that fraud?

    Adam,
Question that could help reps working in cold-weather climates:
I just got homeowner’s roof approved for replacement, and when I came over to collect the check he said he wants to wait until spring to do replacement
There was likely a disconnect in communication on my part, perhaps in assuming he would want to replace his roof ASAP, but how do you think I could overcome this objection?
I mentioned that if his roof has problems in the winter there isn’t much we can do because of the frigid temps
Should I simply come back to him in the spring or push him to install the roof now?

Why would you complain about “what’s Your Estimate”?
It would seem that you would want to split the difference between your normal price for out-of-pocket work versus “insurance” which just FLUFF’s up the price.
This is the problem with “insurance”: it makes the 2-eyed $$ roof contractor?? Suddenly Cha-Ching & morph into a 4-eyed $$$$ Contractor.
The scope of job & materials DON’T change - only how payment is made.
    That? Isn’t the clients fault.
    It’s simply “greedapitalism”.
Gordon “Grant Cardone” Lee Haight Gekko crapitalism.

YOU NEVER GOT THAT DEAL BECAUSE YOU DIDNT GIVE A FREAKING HONEST ESTIMATE BRO. YOU JUST WANT ALL THE INSURANCE MONEY SO YOU CAN CONTROL EVERYTHING WITHOUT TRANSPARENCY.
