- Since I only got to watch cinematics last time, I decided to try out Retail WoW again and see how much fun Mage REALLY is! The main issue is, I don't know where to go...SO! I got my editor and his friend Danny to make up a little mini adventure guide to help make my WoW experience more fun. Enjoy!!

The race between Day9 and Wowcrendor to hit level cap! Crendor has an 11 year head start but I think it'll be close.
Crendor has been leveling for so long that he actually lost levels because of the squish.
@@LuckySmurflmao thats hilarious
its amazing how much content was generated by this 6 mob pull challenge
This video is the perfect length for my daily visit to John Keeshan's.
9days ago
I have never clicked on a video this quick. My eye to hand coordination in that one very brief moment would have put many Counter Strike players to shame.
It put counter strike players to shame but to the Starcraft legend Day9 it was just a Tuesday
Hell yeah brother
Micro
@@Ardell_Drelzexian He'd click it about 43 times in that space of time, which would put my APM to shame, yes.
sean making noises is fucking peak content.
The creative confidence to remake the same character that caused him embarrassment in BG3 is astounding.
Watching new players is fucking wild.
and he's one of the smarter new player too. The game really isn't easy to learn.
@@marcroy5089 Its actually pretty easy to learn. Viewing a streamer learn a new game is like watching a newborn ride a bike. Its not completely genuine.
@@poisonated7467out of curiosity, when's the last time you learned WoW from scratch?
@@zuralani1he’s somewhat right though, most people would learn loads by just opening google and reading up, talking to other people in and outside of WoW, etc. Sean’s completely solo experience is I think a pretty rare way of playing this game. Or any MMO for that matter.
Do not underestimate the power of the Quick Google.
@@zuralani1 Dragonflight, but there's really no "learning WoW from scratch" once you've played an MMORPG. Really no learning in any genre that you've played for a while, im sure you know. Day9 has played RPGs before, so, its not that different. Streaming can make your brain go dumb, meaning being put in social situations where tons of ppl are watching is a lot of pressure and a lot of brain space being used to be a good streamer. He's not using the amount of energy he would be using if he was playing alone. His mindset would also be different.
Ahhh the backpedalling right into more mobs. A certified classic new player maneuver, you love to see it.
WoW: toilets
Day9: this is the funniest thing ever conceived
This was real fun.
You could see the neurons lining up as he slowly began to mage all over those mobs.
Neuron. Mage players can't possibly have more than one otherwise the rest of them would go extinct from underuse.
@@youdyed This post brought to you by HunterMains
Sean: this game thinks I am stupid and it draws giant areas on the map for me to see where I need to go. How disrespectful.
Also Sean: keeps the giant areas on his map and gets lost, stuck, walks the wrong way at every opportunity.
Peak content 😂
As someone who had NO IDEA who you were until these WoW videos, this is some really good shit.
An actual beginner is somewhat of a rare-spawn for this game nowadays and its so fun to watch.
he was the first person to EVER get a subscribe button on twitch and still holds the record for the longest subscription on twitch,
@@JustinK0 Cant believe how close i was to knowing who he was seeing as i even knew of destiny and SC2 lmao, just completely missed the Esport
watching day9 going through all of this without his best skill on the action bar is hilarious. Watching wow again through the eyes of a 1st time player is honestly a great experience. Edit: Oh shoot 4 hours in he found it. Thank you twitch chat
I like how the stream slowly evolved into John Keeshan humor.
Your friends did you a solid by guiding you towards Redridge Mountains.
The John Keeshan bit was so good
it´s like watching a cat trying to fly a kite it´s hilarious, you never really realise how much you take for granted like the lingo (like the whole "pull 6 mobs and defeat em") after so many years playing wow
Take A Shot Whenever Day9 Says "No Backseating" Challenge - IMPOSSIBLE
The only more impossible challenge would be Take A Shot Whenever Day9's Chat Backseats
"kill 6 mobs in 1 pull, I don't even know what that means" Oh I'm so ready for this
"Is this sponsored? No, I'm doing this to myself" 🤣 Has been great to see you give WoW a try, and thoroughly entertaining! 🙂
Gotta say...the whole "guided adventure" idea is pretty dope...great for sharing WoW with friends who may not be familiar with MMOs or even RPGs. Props to Ed!!
fingers crossed for another classic video after this!
Figuring out what works as a spell/skill rotation and crafting your own is some of the most rewarding stuff that WoW has to offer imo. Glad to see Day9 was able to find an opportunity to dive head-on into that!
i need another 4 hours of Day9 trying and failing to kill 6 mobs in one pull
All future WoW streaming should be under the alias Day 9 Keeshan
It's awesome to see Day9's community reference the overlord/hydralisk soundeffect/video from 10 years ago and Sean making himself laugh doing them 10 years later. Never change Sean.
The wow content is some of the best day 9 content Ive seen in years.
I just came here to see that this comment was already written ^^
I love to see how Day9 conquers pulling and killing N mobs by himself. Love to see the amount of headbanging before he finally realizes what to do, I love how many times I wanted to stop the video and tell Day9 how to do it.
This has been super wholesome. I started playing wow when I was 11. Which was 20 years ago. Seeing Day9 just galavanting around has been weirdly cathartic for me. I got yelled at a lot by strangers all while I played this game until I got good enough that, nowadays, I'm mostly ignored. I really love this game, the way people act when they play it is awful.
This has to be the best content he’s ever created 😂
Thank you, Sean, for all the laughs! Slappin mobs with ice and traversing redridge! Love it! Slap her with ice!
Love watching your blind play through of WoW. I haven’t played retail in a looooong time and it’s cool to see what the game’s become from a new player perspective. I hope you keep going with Classic.
14:37 . He's actually just a muta in a human costume.
All those many years as a professional Starcraft 2 caster trained him for this very moment :P
good god that mutalisk was perfect, i was instantly transported back to middle school
Getting up that many times in the night because you thirsty can be a sign of Diabeetus. I'm the same and my docs been warning me.
what I learned from this is I desperately need for starcraft to include a Day[9] voiceover, where Sean voices all the units
Fantastic way to make up for retail's deficits. have fun!
Such an entertaining guy, watched it all. Almost, but will have to watch the last hour later
I love seeing this absolutely new player experience
I forget what its like to be new at this game, i dont think i know a single gamer that hasnt played wow at some point in their lives
The final hour of this was a treat! Seeing him slowly figure out a proper rotation was lovely viewing!
I'm an hour in, you're telling me I'm still over 2 hours away from him figuring it out? Noooo!
Big fan of these wow reviews...I'm curious about your reaction to more classic wow tho!
I love that frost mage has so much crowd control ability, but he runs into melee range and sits there casting spells and when he runs away, he doesn't us any of the cc and just spams nova.... love it!
Such a fun concept! I could see it work for lots of other games.
Good idea to replace the introduction. I know a few other games that could really benefit from this sort of content... mostly MMOs.
I will say that I would really love to see more WoW Classic much more than retail. That felt like you were genuinely having fun because of the game itself.
When I stopped playing, I had just crossed over a year of playtime.
It is comforting to find that murlocs can still cause nightmares.
You never fail to make me laugh. Love you Sean and all your takes, and cat
I played a bit of classic and before my sub ran out i tried retail for giggles. And i gotta say the crazy theme park loopdeeloops aside. Clicking buttons felt incredible.
Less than two minutes in and I'm already so excited
Contrary to the beliefs of some prudes, John Keeshan humour is still funny as an adult.
I was about 1 hour 30 minutes into this video, and I wanted to see how fast that I, a VERY experienced wow player, could catch up. So I made a void elf mage and started leveling (since void elf starts at level 10 in Stormwind), and at 2:31:08 in the video, I turned in the same quest to Keeshan that Day9 just did in 48 minutes on my character.
Going in order, and more importantly, not dying, certainly helps lol.
I'm not saying this to talk about how bad Day9 is or anything, he'd absolutely DESTROY me in Starcraft or Hearthstone and the like because I am *not* experienced in those, just as he is not experienced in WoW. It was just a fun experiment and I thought I'd chime in. (For the record, I did not use any heirlooms since D9 also didn't have access to heirlooms.)
Watching Sean figure out how to kill 6 mobs at once was so enjoyable. Top tier content! Love it.
I never comment but needed to put my vote in - I would love if you kept playing this (or Classic)- seeing some of these environments again after not playing since 2005 is just wonderful to watch
Holy hell it's the guy from Twitch
the amount of times he opened his spell book and didnt put ice barrier on his bars was terrifying, it was literally shining.
Holy hell it's the guy from twitch!
After you making those Starcraft unit sounds I am now convinced that this is how the devs actually created them.
I love that this mage looks like the Guardian character he made in BG3 lol
Love this.
It will be a while until Day9 does the mage tower but I believe he can!
Did you end up finishing the redridge storyline? You hearthed out right before the best parts
John Keeshan arrives ~ 1:11:13
I have not laughed this hard in a long time - I say after watching every video sean creates
Honestly, tagging (and killing) 6 mobs is one of the worst tasks you can give to a new player, even in Retail.
Great video anyway, hope you keep having fun!
I said it once in the chat I will say it again here. I wish to look half as good as Sean when I go bald !!!
Don't disrespect your John Keeshan - remember to flush after using one!
Love these wow videos however I enjoyed watching you play and figure out classic more, the slower pacing and old school vibe compliments you well.
Given all the things you’ve said you enjoyed (relaxing chill slow paced game) I really think you’d like classic!
Cata classic just reshaped the world so if you want a more authentic classic experience that still has a playerbase maybe check out season of discovery (basically just classic but they added some spells from later expansions)
I’d love to see you blind play through original wow as the classic re release was my first exposure to the game and I loved it, it’d make for a cool day9 just chatting type stream
OMG! Uncle is back playing WoW
I love that Sean accidentally phonetically named himself after one of the most powerful druids in Warcraft
i remember when Day9 first got Blink in classic and turned his camera behind him and blinked (forward, the way his character was facing, but towards the camera) and since he was unfamiliar with the environment he misunderstood his displacement as being in the direction his camera was facing. this mistake of understanding a key game-mechanic came into full fruition in this video where he tried to escape and live by pointing his camera to blink but blinking the opposite direction and dying.
Day9 playing Wow again really makes me John Keeshan.
@2:43:20 funniest gamer moment of all time
4:20 incredible backseating immediately after explicit instructions not to
All a streamer has to do is play wow for the first time and they’ll have an immediate audience, because I’m watching
I had a real unhealthy relationship with WoW from Mists of Pandara through Legion, and recently have had a strong urge to go back. Watching you play retail has really helped me scratch that itch while reminding myself why I finally quit.
Level 13 you have a mount in retail?? Holy shit.
I know, right? I remember getting the slow one at level 40, then saving/farming/selling for two months to buy the fast one at 60. I was so proud when I got epic riding. 😭 back in the day though, running around everywhere wasn’t so bad. Nowadays, the patience ain’t there.
1 level per hour. This going to be quite the leveling journey.
Is he ever going to grab a dang flight point!!!!!
Hi Day9, I just wanted to add on that feeling of choices/freedom in how to go about doing things in games because it is relevant to the history of WoW. Classic WoW has now reach the Cataclysm expansion which is regarded by many as the beginning of the "downfall" of WoW, at least in terms of game design. You see, after having extended the talent trees and ability pools twice, with The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, the "devs" (probably some wise non-gamer in marketing) felt that the game was getting too complex for new players and that said complexity would deter people from even trying the game. With the theme of Cataclysm being the reshaping of Azeroth following the awakening of Deathwing, it seems the devs were embolden to attempt to reshape the character progression experience as well. So they squashed down all talent trees to half their size, removed the ability to freely put points in different trees and essentially streamlined the experience. They reverted a lot of that back to how it was in later expansions but the damage had been done and the rise in popularity of private servers running TBC and WotLK versions of the game began around that time.
For many, the Vanilla, TBC and WotLK versions are considered the best simply because the design philosophy hadn't been "tainted" by the streamlining obsession that serves more the investors in renewing the customer base than the actual customer base. Imagine having played the game for years precisely for that freedom of doing things "your way", and then logging in to a new expansion not to have more ways to do things, but less. Ironically, at the highest level of the game, the raiding scene, classes like frost mage and elemental shaman are essentially spamming their main spell(frost/lightning bolt) for 2 hours so despite having well over 40 different spells/abilities the relevancy of the majority of them is very circumstantial. Which loops back to the design change. Reducing the amount of such circumstantial abilities is a reasonable business move, but it is done at the cost of taking away player freedom. And then they proceeded to make the same mistake so many corporations made, they confused game features with player freedom. Giving players more things to do "your" way isn't making your game more relatable to your players, it often makes it less, feeling like your game is just a list of chores. Giving players more ways do to the same feature is immensely more relatable because you've given the players the ability to play "their" game. Another problem with the streamlining of a game is what people refer to as the Class Identity problem. For instance, the mage's Blink was so strong that the class only started falling off of the meta after many other classes had been given similar movement abilities. At first those changes were thematically motivated, like the rogue getting shadowstep in TBC or the deathknight getting a "get over here" scorpion style pull, but then the themes became a pretext to give everyone essentially the same toolkit, making the class selection process almost irrelevant compared to it being the most important decision of any rpg.
Look how many buttons I have!
Love it lol
Ed is a monster 🤣
It's wild that Balatro at this point is going to be overshadowed by all the other amazing games that have and will come out this year. Easily could have been a game of the year most years.
Nice to see how Sean picked up playing mage so quick "TWO!! TWO!! TWO!!" (that is basicly how you level a mage, not even joking)
No. It's not. Blizzard is still the main leveling spell if you're talking about AOE grinding. Explosion is for picking off low health survivors.
sometimes i think sean is being obtuse on purpose to get my blood pressure up. "clicks x instead of complete quest". xD
Just like in South Park, Sean spent hours in the forest, Killing Mobs to grind levels.
Once again the note: Disable "enable ipv6 if available" in your wow network settings, (It's right in there with settings) in case you experience the same issue with random disconnects :)
Hope you gonna continue playing
Hit em with the 2
13:36 14:04 Lmao. Best part
I can't tell when what his points are about the game, he is sarcastic all the time, so when he give blizzard a compliment I don't know if he is being sarcastic or sincere
any chance this guide can be public?
Let's be honest. When Sean started listing all the things he intended to achieve during these 5 hours, we all knew he wasn't even gonna pull and kill 6 mobs let alone get out of Redridge and travel to Un'goro. 🤣
I honestly think you should just do MOP Remix at this point
I know day9 doesnt like backseating but meh.. what he actually does is the same thing I did when I started playing the game (and thought I was doing a lot of damage cause it looked cool)
Basically single target spells will 99% of the times make more damage than AOE attacks unless there are at least 4 o 5 enemies under the AOE area
For single players and unless youre doing raids or dungeons Id say focus on single attack spells for damage
1 to max level is just a long extended tutorial for when the real game starts. The game doesn't get remotely challenging until you hit current content. Side note, i find it more fun downloading, arranging and configung mods then i actually do olaying the damn game.
10/10 Zerg noises.
@20:00 perfect time for a level up
The only thing i don't like watching the VOD is that i can't see his Chat :(
