My husband and I have been doing missionary work in Labadee since 2015. We have many many friends that are employed by RCCL that work in the beach area. We have served in the Labadee Village Baptist Church and the Fort Bourgeois Church (about 20 minutes from Labadee) I can't even express how heart breaking it is to us, to see what is happening in Haiti. We know and love the Haitian people we have met. Closing the beach area will be devastating to the Haitian people. People don't understand how poor these people are.(it's why they are desperate to sell in the artistic village) We have spent weeks in Haiti and until you see how HARD their life is you can't understand. I pray for God's immediate intervention to protect all our friends and the innocent Haitian people. I also pray that God meets their physical needs! We sailed into Labadee in February this year and was so thankful we were able to visit Labadee, it's the only way now we can physically get to see our friends. God help them!
I just got off that “ship” we were there 3/12 and it was gorgeous 🤩 we did not feel unsafe at all but a lot of guests were concerned. I completely get why it has been canceled but man it’s a beautiful port! I booked my cruise 2 yrs ago
I didn't feel very comfortable just going to the shops on Labadee. Those 6'4"" young men got very aggressive. They would grab our arms and try to get us into their shops. They would follow us toward other shops. I wouldn't want to go back there even without the threat of escaped prisoners.
I’ve never done a cruise with Labadee as a port stop. I can’t imagine how uneasy and threatened you must have felt. No one has the right to touch anyone else.

Royal Caribbean needs to be proactive and suspend all stops to Labadee Haiti . If safety is the ultimate concern for Pax. then the release of 4000 dangerous prisoners roaming the country is a threat. Also liability will be on RC if they ignore the situation!

I'm cruising with Royal in April, just over a month. We're scheduled for port stops in both Labadee and Puerto Plata. I've been to both numerous times however, I'm getting very concerned over this. I hope Royal makes the right decision and redeploys us elsewhere.
we were just in Labadee and Puerto Plata and saw no issues. Had a great time..We cruised and explored with no issues. Of course, always be aware of your surroundings.
Security neasures at Labadee would be totally overwhelmed by an orchestrated gang attack. These thugs know where the easy money is and could target port passengers and potentially take over the entire ship with potential disastrous results.

When I’ve been to Labadee, there have always been very well armed guards around the perimeter of the resort area. RCI does watch the situation around Labadee very closely at all times.
Personally I would not be concerned about the Dominican Republic if there is a state of emergency you will know before you board the ship. Labadee just has a little fence separating the outside.
