Absolutely fun to watch Shohei, Trout and MLB baseball. Shohei was so close to hitting for the cycle last week! I hope he gets a cycle soon!! EDIT: didn't mean to take anything away from the incredible 13 strikeouts in 5 innings!!
Shohei is actually a three-way baseball player starting from this season. Don't forget Shohei is the fastest runner from home to 1st base (4.02sec) in MLB as well. And Shohei has 5 stolen bases now, he is the SB leader in Angels. Plus this season's new pitch-clock rule made Shohei taken half of a catcher's job, Shohei makes decisions of all the pitches and takes away half of the workloads and responsibility from the catcher. Yet Shohei never ask the catcher to share half of the catcher's payroll 😂.
What he is doing right now going for 50/50 is also pretty crazy but I agree with you. The man is a monster! I didn’t even like Baseball but I follow it now. Especially the Show Time!👍🏽
Weird day for shohei. Strikes out 13 in just 5 innings (i think the two remaining outs were a caught stealing and a ground out), normally a 4 hit game would be fine but he also gave up 2 hrs and 4 runs. Couldnt quite get the W or the QS, despite striking out almost every batter he faced. Well at least he also went 3-5 on the plate with 1 R and 1 RBI
so uhh some shohei stats so far: he now has a .307 BA with .365 on base and .553 slugging. he leads his team it BA, and second to trout on OPS, though i think he now leads the team in hits he still leads the team in the pitching side, with now a 2.54 ERA with an impressive 59 Ks in 39.0 innings pitched, for a 13.6K/9IP (i think that is the AL record for now)
Not just a 5 hit game, but a 6 batted ball game with 1 walk. Pretty anomalous numbers. 5/6 batted balls being hits, and 4/6 being extra base hits is unlucky even if you happen to throw a few meatballs.
I know pitch count is now the norm, but I remember watching in Oct 7 1991 when David Cone threw 142 pitches to strickout 19 batters in a game, Ohtani had 13 Ks in 5 innings, if he would've gone the whole 9 innings he could've tied or set a major league record of Ks in a game.
