I disagree… I think that takes away from the rest of us that have contributed to the world differently. Yes, being applauded by Celine is amazing, but so is, for example, hearing a needy child say, “I love you.”
I was Céline Dion's flight attendant twice when she had a situation and had to fly commercial. Let me tell you something about Céline. She's a very down to earth person who had a rough childhood with being the youngest of 14 children in a financially struggling family. She knows the struggle and she's always happy to see success. Is it a true honor to receive a standing ovation from the one and only Céline?? ABSOLUTELY!!! But Céline is NOT an arrogant, egotistical diva. She's REAL and she truly wishes the best for everyone. I've been a flight attendant for a major U.S carrier for 20 years and she by far is one of the friendliest and most charitable celebrities I've met. She wanted absolutely ZERO publicity when she participated in the Make A Wish Foundation and was on my flight to visit a dying child.
@@michellesnyder9498 LeAnn made it more popular and much better. Why you think she's known for this song cuz people think it's her song just like the song I will always love you. Dolly parton wrote it and sang it but Whitney Houston is known for that song cuz she made it popular and more famous. And that's just facts.
Leean rimes es sin duda una de las voces más bellas de la música country...en 1997 con tan solo 15 años de edad ganó el Grammy a mejor nuevo artista....esta presentación fenomenal...
I love that Leann and Trisha were always classy about it. Nowadays there would have been so much nastiness on social media...more from their fans but still that’s the toxic environment we live in now.
I'm willing to bet they both had strong feelings about the situation but also... no social media around to get into feuds. So it all stayed behind the scenes
@@wickedphant0m there was an article about it. LeAnn feels like the music industry was playing up with her. I can't blame her because she was around 15 or 16 at that time. Now she is old enough to be so sensitive about awards show. I think she makes peace about it by appearing at the Grammys for so many times.
Maybe if LeAnn hadn't sung "how do I leave (without you)"... JK. Though I've always found her pronunciation curious. But to your point, it's hard to consider anyone being robbed if they've lost to Trisha Yearwood.
@mcworld999 No, Rimes wasn't "thrown under the bus" which means to made a scapegoat of, or betrayed for selfish reasons. And it wasn't that the producers wanted a more mature voice, they wanted a more mature *person*. They felt that at 14, Rimes was too young to convey the song's sentiment, which is an utterly fair point, no matter how beautifully she had sung it. (At 14, a person is too young to have experienced the type of romantic loss described in the song.) Truth be told, I do think there is something a bit more plaintive about Yearwood's version.
She did get thrown under the bus i remember when happened when Trisha won she sounded bitter there was an another version out there in her acceptance speach
I mean I understand the reasoning of not giving the Grammy to her for this song. She was 14 when she recorded the song, a little inappropriate subject matter for a little girl to sing despite her undeniably mature voice and overwhelming technical ability. If they’d given her the Grammy I’m sure they would have been met with backlash because they are essentially condoning the treatment of little girls as women. When I first listened to the song, I thought a woman in her mid 30s sang the song. I was kind of disturbed they allowed a little girl to sing the song even though she did absolutely kill the song. And if I can be totally honest, at the time Trisha’s version and vocal style would be more popular and fitting and her vocal abilities were slightly better than Leann’s at that time. But if we compare their primes as grown women, Leann is undeniably a better vocalist. She is so damn underrated.
why isn't LeeAnn getting more attention? i think her voice is equal to Carrie Underwood.....anyone have any ideas? i have my thoughts but don't want to say
waaaay better. i like Carrie but she can tend to sound nasal & shouty, while LeAnn's voice pure power. think about it...LeAnn's 16 here... SIXTEEN ...sounding like that!!! but America likes All-American wifey-type women over someone with "home-wrecker" image. But then they move on from people like Brad Pitt's "mistakes"
LeAnn's career was several years before Carrie's and she kind of rode the child prodigy wave. Her biggest hits were all as a teenager and as she became an adult, it seemed the overall interest in her career waned. She also transitioned away from country into adult contemporary pop. Plus, country music during the Bush era was really a different vibe than it had been before and the market was more suited to Carrie.
I love Trisha and prefer her version, but LeAnn did fantastic in this performance. Curb should’ve submitted her to the pop category rather than thinking Trisha was an easy one to beat in the country category. Serious backfire
Diane Warren writes songs that almost nobody can.sing (example: this song; "Love will Lead you back" by Taylor Dayne ). They require ridiculous range and control . Others try to sing them , but cant
I don’t think it was fair to do this to either artist. Leann performed it and Trisha wins the Grammy. I think it should’ve been handled better. Because the Leann fans are going to criticize Trisha .
If Celine Dion is clapping for you like that, you KNOW you have won at life! Wow!

She recorded this song when she was 13 or 14 . Can't imagine with that age she can deliver so much emotions and vocal
It's absolutely mind blowing that she was FIFTEEN at this performance.
And 14 when you listen to the studio version.
and basically looks the same all these years later.
15?? 😱
This song came out when i was 9.. here i am revisiting it as a 32 yr old. 😳😩🤦🏼♂️
This was a standing ovation performance love it
anyone else watching this in 2021
Patti La Belle’s face at the end says it all.
Real recognizes real
She deserved to win the category! 🥺
Right, I remember the drama around this song. I feel if was today, they would’ve let her sing her version for the movie.
Before there was Carrie there was LeAnn. Girl had and still has, a voice in her head.
The way the band waits for her at the end of the high note towards the end 🙏
Her best live performance of this song!
What a beautiful song. And I just love her beautiful and powerful voice. Wow. This is one of my fave live performances of LeAnn.
Trisha Yearwood sang it better and the original

Stunning
Amazing performance (this and Divas Live 99).
Great voice
This is astonishing, was she really 15? What a prodigy.
And then they gave the Grammy to Trisha Yearwood. Shady as hell.
Or they could have tied together…
A true superstar.
shes only 15 in this damn

No disrespect to Trisha Yearwood, but this is LeAnn's song! She sings it so well!!

As i know trisha yearwood was there watching her.
Talent from God. And then we left her, just like she worried about in the song. I'll never understand it.
Yesss
Patti was impressed so welp 🤷🏽♂️
Celine dion is clapping
Trisha yearwood didn’t hold a candle to LeAnn’s version. I was done with country music after yearwood won.
She's a much better vocalist now. Here she sometimes had the tendency to push the sound a little back in her throat . Other than that she's excellent
Better vocal than Trisha

Had LeAnn’s version gone Pop, both she and Trisha would’ve won!
She's still going to lost to Sarah McLachlan. Paula Cole and Shawn Colvin had General Field nominations but still lost.
Sorry, the Yearwood version is a joke compared to this.
Both versions are good. I have them both on my country playlist. Both versions stand the test of time.

Carrie is shouting and gets too nasal. Leann's voice is a real gem.
My theory is Trisha’s people took her out lol she was clearly a threat to Trisha
She won grammy the year before at 14 right? So she's 15 here?
