@Rhys P you're jaded by today's standards of music. In 1995/1996, women were JUST starting to really get aggressive and create music that was more than just "I like a boy, I hope he likes me too" kinds of songs. When "You Oughta Know" came out, it was like an explosion went off! This was when Lilith Fair came to be, and Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, the Indigo Girls, Paula Cole, Alanis, and more were writing brutally honest songs about heartbreak, anger, grief, revenge....being raped, being molested....it was a MASSIVE time for women, and I was so proud to come of age in that moment in pop culture. You have no clue how devastating it is to see how far backwards women's role models have fallen. We went from extremely talented women clawing and fighting for all they had to Kardashians. She had the hits but the issue was multiple: her album was pop and there was alot of criticism with grammys for years awarding top awards to Pop artist. There was pushed for diversity both to award more female artist and/or an album that wasn't mainstream Pop. The other issue was Market share, which Morissette dominated that year ( 1995). Toni braxton, TLC and Boy2men dominated urban and R&B so mariah was not going to be awarded in those categories. Mariah's net worth in 1995 is estimated to be about 25 to 30 mil usd - which ranges 42 to 51 mil usd if adjusted for inflation. even if just a small portion of this amount of money goes in her paycheck, she could still technically buy 16 thousand grammy statuettes for 20 mil usd. everything is just a speculation though, so take it with a bag-full of salt. 😉😉
You don’t buy Grammys, you win them.
Mariah’s songs still sound so current even up today..
2:32 GOD
That sounded too much like the part:
"CLOSE the door, lose the key" of Infinity
@@VOM27 yeah they are both on 'O' vowel
Mariah’s musicality tho definitely the greatest in our generation
They could’ve at least given her Best Pop Collaboration, Best Pop Album and Best Female RB Performance.
Holy mother of God...Mariah. I don't...how..? That voice.
It takes an unbelievable amount of focus to pull of Mariah’s vocals in any case
I watched this live on TV when I was maybe 15. They showed Mariah in the audience several times, each time I could see the sadness on her face. The Grammys should be ashamed of their behind-the-scenes politics, not honoring one of world's most revered singer-songwriters at one of her pinnacles when she deserved Album of the Year for Daydream. Being married to psycho Mottola doens't help either, when no one likes him, they jealous of Mariah but don't know the hell she's going through. As Rocky said, the Grammys are "Boeing" ROFL! Mariah doesn't need this sh!t, she's a living LEGEND. I never watched another Grammys EVER again.
Exactly!!! Hi Mimi
The 90's. We were blessed with great music.
Her voice is a gift from God no one can ever camper Mariah the only voice true legend right here I’m in love omg!! 😍😘❤️💕
That's really honest talent there. Years and years of practice. And disciplined delivery on the big day. What a coming together of great singers on a live stage with a really difficult song!
3:42 this bish was SINGGGGINNNGGGG
😍😍😍
😂😂😂😂 blowing
2:49 that riff!!!
The legendary voice of all times, Mariah Carey! So timeless!
Her voice is so powerful,, she holds her mic so far away while belting, and her tone is yet so full and strong, and I know from experience, one tiny mic movement changes a lot...All of them performed extremely well!!!
Mariah Carey - the GOAT. She's stunningly beautiful with a voice of an angel.
I got chills all over my body watching this😭😭😭
They vocal on fire 🥵, Mariah Transition is out of the world
4:22-4:37 proves alone why that song is still the longest number 1 song in History
Not for too long unfortunately 😭😭
toufik kun shut up
@@itona1253 I know😭😭😭😭😭
@itona1253 that old town road song beat it 🙄 what a shit song
The Grammys have disrespected the Queen far too many times !!!😞😤
The begining of Shammey awards, when Mariah get robbed
The night Grammy became totally stupid....crazy idiots
The Grammys were that back in 1980 giving MJs off the wall 1 Grammy. Then in 1988 Bad getting NONE..
Exactly,, its getting worst every year and painful to watch
The scammy’s award
The only good thing about the scammys are the preformances everything else is complete bullshit
I love how much control she uses. she easily could have came out and taken over that stage and outsang all of the members of boyz II men In a heartbeat but she was appropriate on when to shine and when to let them shine and not overpower them.
I miss 90s Mariah. I am glad I got to live through that. She was amazing. We all know she belts but listen to the control when she sings "smile" at 1:02
We also missed a time when you used to shut up
@@tremaine861😂😂
I still have this recording. Flawless
I just realized how MC was very humble, always. She got the bests for me, best voice, best face and best heart.
No disrespect to those who won, but this song is a classic while others faded in oblivion.
Songbird supreme, undisputedly
This performance was spectacular
This performance was POWERFUL
One of the greatest Songs EVER
MUCH respect to these five for performing a song like this live as well as they did, because I know that between the recording and touring that they each did, it was challenging.
How was it possible that they did not get a standing ovation??!!!
This!!
This live version was great, the choir beautiful ❤, but the live version that I will truly love forever and ever is their live version from Fantasy at the Madison Square Garden!. That one hits the damn feels ❤, if you haven't watched it, go for it 💪💪
Justice for Daydream!!!
Just how in the world do some "artists" have more grammys than her?
she has reached that point only few artists have achieved that awards such as scammys are no longer relevant sksksksk.
Indeed....She is deserving of Grammy every year 1990 to 1999
just think like this, she is too good for the scammys.
Like Taylor shit 😩🤣
@@alucardmorningstar2296 Scammys is the right name for it 🙄
How come this song didn’t win a Grammy ? This is real , raw talent ! One of the greatest song of ALL time! Got three chills at @2:58 - end. She killed it and bravo to Boyz2men!
Because the Grammy's suck, that's why
They sounded so good . Like the recording
That was a truly successful concert for Mariah.
I don’t understand why her lost every Grammy awards . She sound good also she is number one hits of all times.
1:08 when you hear it you know right away that is Mariah Carey ❤
How do you not get a Grammy after having this song on number 1 for so long lol but who cares most iconic singer to live so
One of the best of her I've ever seen, GEEEEEEEEEZ PERFECTION!
Pure talent! We need more of this today.
Mariah and wanya are magic together. Omg love their voices blended together. No wonder she picked him to sing with her in I'll be there. He's the best singer in the group. Wow. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
no need of grammy for her to be called a queen, best vocal ever. genius in the field of music
How does the most successful song of the year not win anything?
i love her Mariah Carey
Yaaaassss Mariah went the hell off hunny! Goosebumps!
It was a tough competition at that time..she is just in the wrong place at the wrong time but I still feel she deserve at least 1 award at that time
@Oh Even Brandy was shocked
@Oh exactly
What are you taking about? She was the competition, the star of the night, she should have won all her nominations
And interms of vocals, she could have one something but i think she was up against Anita baker and others which was difficult.
@@CAhmadDavis92u r forgetting that Mariah dominated charts in 1995 96. She was clearly snubbed multiple times. And daydream was more rnb than pop.daydream had clearly better vocals than anitas
Mariah has sang LIVE with the some of the world's best vocalist: Aretha, Whitney, Patti, Luther, Diana Ross, Beyonce & friends (Mary J Blige included) and list go on.
This is one of the romantic song I've ever hear
Onde Sweet Day - Gospel
Lol Mariah said this is “the last sweet day” ya gonna play me at the Grammys 😂😂😂😂
Before this performance Mariah already lost 2/6 of her Grammy nominations that night but she still gives her 💯% performance. She eventually went home empty-handed later. What a pro!
What a disgrace in American music history! I believe half if not all audiences dropped their jaws on the floor that night seeing Mariah won nothing
Sheesh her voice was too tier here! She was compensating for the emptiness the guys were supposed to hold up and you can clearly see she was disappointed but she us phenomenal
4:48 when u know u made history
Amazing how her voice changed from dark to lighter tone. How her voice evolved and matured is what amazes me she's so great.
heavenly.................thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2:20 (And I know)
that was beautiful
its actually so special that this came out the year my dad passed away. I heard this song A LOT and it was very comforting.
3:20 holy shit!
