I love click ballpoint pens almost as much as pencils. This one is beautiful! Such a nice gift. I've added one to my wish list on Amazon. Maybe Santa will pick it up for me this year!! Thanks for the video, Kevin!!
Hi there! So glad you enjoyed the writing experience with that lovely Caran d'Ache model. I just wanted to say you're so absolutely welcome and I appreciate so much all your great content that I find extremely relaxing and comforting after a busy hectic day. They are quite informative too of course! One thing I should mention to you and any other viewers - there is a lot of differing opinions on whether the ISO G2-parker refills fit the Caran d'Ache 849 (the refills I sent are G2 refills). Some say they do not fit, some say they do. Well the secret to entire mystery is in the length of the spring at the end of the Caran d'Ache (which doesn't come out with the cartridge normally). If the spring is too long, the G2 may not fit, but I made sure the spring in your pen is just the right length to accept the G2 refills as well. So for those who are frustrated to having to buy a Caran d'Ache Goliath refill (which are quite pricey, I admit even locally) then just get a G2 and if you have to, change the spring (like with a Parker jotter spring, for example). One can change the spring by pushing it back up into the pen with a paper-clip like point - it will fall out and you can drop in another one until the G2 fits. (the little "teeth" on the G2 refill should be lined up with the grooves on the end button - it's more clear once you try it) 😅Anyway Kevin, you won't have to mess with the spring, no worries. And thanks so much again to you, for all your great content !!!😊😊😊
Thank you, Soo!! I really cherish this pen and it's so handsome and enjoyable to use! Thanks for sharing the secret of the spring - that's something I would not have known. The G2 refills you sent do really fit just fine, but I can see how a longer spring might cause an issue. Again, thank you for this wonderful gift and for being such a loyal and longtime viewer - it's greatly appreciated!!
I’m so glad you like it - don’t know if I mentioned that that “cobalt” blue as you called it was a limited-edition cult pens exclusive color - so it’s not the normal “metallic blue” of the 849 range - quite relatively rare I would say ! And please let me know if you ever take the fountain pen jump - I have a hundred sample vials waiting to be filled with fun but albeit messy inks 😉 but I too love me a good ballpoint 😊 so I totally understand what you mean. Love those pencils sometimes too !! Each instrument has its own mood so each has its own special moments. Thanks again for the pencils that my students are enjoying with me these days !!
Just ordered my first Caran D'Ache pen, which is my first "luxury" pen ever. I'm so glad for this review. I bought to use for journaling/daily diary as well as for those occasional bursts of creativity where I find myself wanting to do few sketches. Mine is one of Paul Smith's editions with the two tones. The minimalist look plus the longevity was what caught my attention, so I'm looking forward to using it!
Very nice pen, though I bet it's pretty dang pricey to match. Sue's tidbit on how to replace the spring for using cheaper G2 cartridges is a real solid. What is priceless is that laser(?) engraving on this specific pen. It's the small touches like this that make the difference. I wager this will be a mainstay of the channel now, likely as a standard for comparing blue pen ink hues. Which is, IMO, a thing you should do in pen reviews, Kevin: some pens are sold as blue, but when you get them they're much fainter or darker or less vibrant than promised (heck, even among batches of Bic Cristals, this is a common occurrence), and a side-by-side ink comparison, even if relatively imprecise, would go a long way in helping people select.
Hi DFT - I do think this was laser engraved, and it was done beautifully. This certainly is a standard in blue ballpoint pens. Maybe I'll put a few "blues" together and compare the blue ballpoint experience. It's not fair to compare this to an inexpensive pen, but it would be interesting to see how the ink color and hues compare. Thanks!
I've seen them on Amazon priced as low as $20+ which for a pen of this calibre is not a bad price at all. But I'd imagine if you order them straight from the seller, they're going to cost way more.
Dang, I need to get myself a Swiss friend who'll send me one of these - my pen subreddit is always going on about these pens lol. I even saved one in my Amazon cart but I can't find myself spending that much on one pen when I might just end up losing it eventually.
Hi ilurvemv - this is a beautiful pen to look at, hold in your hand, and write with. I don't take it off my desk because I dare not misplace it!! Thanks!
@@AlwaysAnalog haha yup, I'd say! Don't let anyone borrow it and keep it under lock and key (I kid...mostly ;) Seriously it does look gorgeous and I can see why my pens subreddit is so besotted with it. Not the same of course but just yesterday I found some Bic Clic Gold pens on ebay and liked the pink color so much I bought them. They won't have the French made refills - ugh - but I couldn't help it, have a weakness for the color pink. I'll probably replace the refills with the Japanese-made ones. Have you ever tried this pen? My guess is not, they're very hard to find now, only see them in promotional pens.
@@AlwaysAnalog i am watching another videos where parker g2 refills cannot fit in the pen and the pen cannot click and get the refill out? And hold the refill so you can't write?
Hi - it all has to do with the size of the hidden spring. See my first message I described there the way to change the spring. If still not clear hit me back with a message 👍
Just for a little better quality than most others, these Swiss companies price their products way too high. Sorry to say but that is how it is. Would rather buy a Japanese pen.
As an ambidextrous writer, I also believe that there are better options out there. My left hand can turn the Visio into something high performance despite having standard ballpoint ink.
Hot take, but well-founded. I agree, Japanese is best, and failing that, Indian. But you can't beat _this_ specific pen for the channel, not with the laser inscryption and all the care taken for it.

I had no idea that pen took standard Parker G2 style refills. Nice to have options for refills!

Hi myrkvdr! I hope you enjoy your Caran d'Ache pen as much as I enjoy mine. The one you ordered sounds very nice. Thanks!
Beautiful work of art of a pen. Just luscious. Appreciate your candor regarding your use of fountain pens.
Hi eproperco - "luscious" is a good word for this pen. Beautiful in every way. Thanks!
Nice, nice, nice case. Continuing now with review...
Thanks, Nancy!
Sue sounds like an awesome pen pal! I am a sucker for a pen that writes blue.
hi ebodaman - she is the best pen pal!! I love blue ink, too! Thanks!

My solution is simple: Don't buy Swiss or other Luxury brands. I prefer Japanese or German pens, and some Indian pens for everyday use.
@@Crazytesseract I was being facetious with my find a Swiss friend comment.
Are you sure you can use another refills that you share in the beginning?

I think you could also fit a Fisher space pen ink cartridge in that pen
It might work - I'll look and see if I have a Fisher cartridge to try. Thanks!
G2, you need to get that extention part for it.
Is this comfortable to write with?
Yes, I found this pen to be very comfortable to hold. Thanks!
