@C J B this for sure. A 620r on senna wheels will beat a REGULAR 2rs. Remember all this is a heavily modded MR. Doesn't even count. You can change the wing to AP/APR add easily a tune and exhaust to 900hp and walk a 2rs MR. The comparison means little. Do stock to stock, sure. Mclaren crippled the 620r on tiny 225/285 on 8/11. Just change that and gone.

@@seanreynolds3535 Nah the turbos in the 620R doesn't make that much power, barley the 720s does. Sure McLaren might have a shot at it after getting bigger wheels but even then the MR is designed on the Ring so the 620R will still get smacked.

Porsche make amazing products. Leaders in every class. But lets not forget the GT2 MR is a modified car, custom tuned for the Ring.. If Mclaren , Ferrari, Nissan or whoever turned up with a factory or race team Ring tuned car, everyone would claim they are "cheating".

Of all the Nurburgring onboards that I have seen, this one gave the best sense of speed. I think because of the camera angle catching the peripheral walls as they passed, it really helps the viewer to see what 140+MPH really looks and feels like on the track. This video also does a really good job of showing just hot bumpy and uneven the ring is. The static mount hood cams just don't do the experience justice. Can really see how the weight transfers and transitions affect the physics of the car here, especially when cresting hills at speed.

Yeah, have a hard time believing a GT2 RS is 'not emotional'. I like the 'better Golf' analogy too. Just because it's compliant does not make it less emotional for me necessarily. I own an S2000 and a GTI. They are similar cars performance wise but the S2000 demands your attention more. Great drive if you put work into it but do you every day? In a car with 2x or 3x the horse power I wouldn't want it to be on the ragged edge, Porsche know what they are doing.

    • @rocketing47

McLaren deliberately put skinny tires on the sports series so they are not faster than the more expensive super series. I have Bridgestone re003 high performance street tyre (Asia pacific already has the new re004) in the size 225/45r17 on my civic.
With the 620r having the same tyre size, it has to be the limiting factor as it doesn’t allow the car to exert more performance. What a weird thing for mclaren to have decided on this size.

McLaren always seem to run excessively narrow front tyres, 225 width on the 620R I think? That's crazy, even my tiny little lotus runs 205 fronts and I sometimes feel it could go wider. Wonder why they do it, apart from steering feel which on their track slag is a weird choice.

Superb driving and superb car. That said, I wish the McLaren 620R had slighter wider front tires. It's the car's weak spot. Only 225 is not much for this machine. Thus, it's not surprising the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is faster. And of course it's even a lot faster after souping it up with the MR (race wings and splitters that do make a difference vs standard versions.)

Very nice driving and great comparison. I was reading the stock front tire is 225/35/19 but from the video I could see you had a 235/35. Why not try a 245 or 265 with more camber? There is also a Pagani fitment 255/30/20 in Trofeo R which might fit. Also why are the front tires so narrow?

I’ve got trofeo Rs on one of my cars and they truly suck for anything but normal road driving. Michelin’s are certainly better. It’s a pity you guys don’t get Yokohama 050s or even 052’s as I’d love to see the McLaren on those to see how it goes.

Awesome drive! Tim really squeezed out what the car has to offer. And great camera angle in the carousel. Shows how violent the car moves over the concrete slabs!
I wonder though if the front end could be refined more still. Considering that during the DTM race on the GP track the Porsche was completely unrestricted by the BOP and the McLaren still runs with restrictions.

I didnt expect the difference to be this big. But looking at the gt2rs you can see how far cars have actually come, you can just stomp on the gas and drive out of anything with a little bit of skill. If you know what i mean

I get the vibes and all can be fun but that lack of front grip brings understeer and I don't see the fun in understeer. It brings driving in a state of waiting for the tire to do their thing whereas a balanced car has more engagement.

wow insane that the running costs are that much higher.
Almost sounds like a design flaw that it eats tires and brakes that much. Guess they really pushed it to the limit going for max speed not caring about how much it pushes the tires and brakes.
