Dogs make mistakes. I believe the dog caught on film was in training or something along those lines. I do not think the bark was an alert. In real time, I saw what happened. You can disagree. Either way, it’s a dog! They all mess up, including Dakota. I do not believe that dog was ready or should have been at vidcon, I met plenty of other service dogs that were perfectly behaved. It’s all about knowing your dog, and what they can handle. Please do not witch hunt anyone in this video. WHAT YOUR DOG, SERVICE DOG OR NOT, DOES EFFECTS OTHER PEOPLE! While yes, Dakota, along with other service dogs are trained to ignore distractions like barking dogs, it’s still not okay. It still is a distraction. I’m glad the handler took effective action to correct the dog. Seeing dogs that behave that way, makes me worry for my dogs safety. Another thing I wanted to note is, this is in fact a public event. Under my first amendment right in the United States of America, I am allowed to film whatever I want while I am in public. In public you can expect no privacy unless in a public restroom, etc. This was a UA-cam convention. It should be expected that you’ll be caught on film by many different people. You can see me in many other peoples videos who were also at vidcon, I did not consent to being filmed, I knew I was going to be. As much as I want to sympathize with the handler and dog that made a mistake, it’s my right to post about it and spread awareness of what handlers deal with on a daily basis. Much love guys. I hope you enjoyed the video.

It's a shame we have to explain ourselves, no matted what we both know our stuff. I get you were trying to educate SDIT Handlers for the future. One of my friends dogs, whom i was training to be a service dog for medical alert, washed out because she brought her to a concert with lots of people, music, and distracts. The dog ended up with anxiety issues due to the exposure. I start by training in Places like: Pet Smart or Rural King. Good interaction and less stress. Most people don't understand that you build up to places like VIDCON.... Also, I know you were caught off guard by the bark. Some dogs, although it's rare, are trained to bark as an alert... For maybe someone with epilepsy, but it isn't used often animate

How would you feel if Dakota was having an off day and made a mistake and someone recorded you guys and posted it on UA-cam just to gain more viewers? Not trying to offend you because I do enjoy watching your videos but my dog is still in training and has made a few mistakes it happens, they are still dogs by the end of the day, we all have something in common we have service dogs to improve our health and we all are suffering from something we know nothing about and we need to stick together not belittle each other

To be honest the two service dogs looked fine. You never know they could've been in training still. At least the handler did the right thing and corrected the dog and walked away. They looked very well behaved going into the building. Is okay for a Service dog to bark, no not necessarily but don't assume because it barks once that it isn't a service dog. The dog didn't even keep barking or hyper focus on your dog so I don't see why you have to post this. But sadly because you showed their dogs and faces they will now get sh*tlisted when they maybe have really great service dogs.

Service dogs slip up. One bark does not mean reactive. Nor does it mean it "cant handle the stress". Dogs arent robots. A mistake is okay. It got excited and barked, was corrected and his attention was redirected and everything was fine. It wasnt a big deal. He was clearly under control. DOGS ARE NOT ROBOTS. They slip up. One bark is nothing. It's alright.
After reviewing the footage again and in slow motion, I noticed that the allegations are completely false. Slow the video down to .5 and you will hear a bark and then we see the dog on the handler, land, jump again, barely even glance at Dakota, go into a heel and walk away. This was an alert and I'm genuinely upset and disappointed Lexie used her 100,000+ followers to feed her thoughts of "I'm famous" and attack someone for something they didnt even do when she has the proof in her own video her allegation is false. Before you go and attack someone, please have proof...

All I will say is I agree that dogs aren’t robots, but however the dog was jumping and barking. The handler corrected it and they walked off fine. But I do think the bark was stress induced, because the way the dog refocused does show training. Had that dog not been in such a high stress situation, it probably would not have barked. They have stated that it is an SDiT, so I do think the bark was an undesired behavior they need to work on before trying a high activity place again.

I really thinks it’s unfair for Lexi to use as click bait and blast a handler for no reason the barked once which in accordance to the ADA is fine as long as the dog is under control which this dog was. It’s also not fair to say that the handler was “yanking the dog away” in the video you can see them maybe give a light correction then the dog falls back into a heel and walks away focused on the handler.
This is the problem in the service dog community that dog was fine, but Lexi decided to use it as click bait and now that handler is getting hate for no reason. We should be supporting each other not trying to make good content at the expense of others.

She acts like she knows everything which only makes her look ignorant. The owner of the husky in the begining was trying to get his dog away and deal with the situation politely, no it should never have happened, but Lexi doesnt need to make backhanded comments twords them either. Dogs are not robots, just because a dog barks once does not mean it is not a legitimate service dog. Lastly who are you to pass judgement? You dont know those people and im sure if they passed judgement on you or someone in your "squad" you'd get triggered because of the confrontation and have Dakota do deep pressure therapy. ItzMeg this dog showed signs of not being done training or having been taught this behavior, not signs of being a fake. It did indeed jump and bark which happens at least once to many SD(it) the owner didn’t even need to correct it (meaning this could have also been an alert or trained behavior) and it automatically responded showcasing that it isn’t lacking training but instead made a mistake(or again did a trained behavior). It wasn’t dragged away either it walked away...if this dog was truly reactive it would not have responded to the owners movement and walked away with her/him. I’ve trained and worked with many sd handlers this dogs behavior was completely normal for a SDit or one that just made a mistake. The real problem is she filmed it 2 times and then proceeded to post it to all of social media.

I’ll never understand why these instagram handlers insist on having their service dogs off leash. A hands free leash around the waist or shoulder would give you the same freedom of movement for you and the dog.
The ADA states: “The service animal must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered while in public places unless these devices interfere with the service animal's work or the person's disability prevents use of these devices.”
This clause was designed to accommodate handlers who physically cannot hold or manipulate leashes (i.e. hand mobility issues prevent gripping a leash or clipping and unclipping one), or service dogs whose jobs include distance tasks such as clearing a room or retrieving medicine/items.
However, just because your dog KNOWS a distance task, doesn’t mean they’re legally allowed to be off leash 100% of the time. They’re allowed to be off leash for their task, but then must be put back on leash once their task is done. Walking down a hall, walking through the mall, and getting pet by tiktok celebrities are not tasks, and therefore there’s no reason for the dog to be off leash.

zerocharisma15 a lot of SDs are trained off lead in case something happens where they would need to let go or unclip them, I know of a few people who have had to completely lose their lead because of people grabbing it.

The Service K9 Duo I’m fine with training for emergencies. My service dog is trained for those as well. But the way to do it legally is to train on a loose handsfree leash, and then, when you’re in a place where dogs can legally be off leash, work leash-free there.
Because “training for edge cases” is not task training, under the ADA, it’s not a legal reason for the dog to be worked off leash. That’s like saying, in the case that I die, I need my dog to bark three times to get help, so I have the right to go to funeral homes to train my dog to alert to the scent of corpses. Sorry, Sharon, I need to have my dog sniff your Great Aunt Hellen so he can learn the scent of death. Great funeral, though! Lovely flowers!
Also, having a waist leash or over the shoulder leash, would prevent people from taking the leash from you, so problem legally solved.

The Service K9 Duo If she wants to call out every dog she sees and put it on camera, then people have the right to tell her she’s breaking ADA law🤷🏽‍♀️ The “it’s her dog, let her do what she wants” could be applied to people who bring their pets to non pet friendly places as well. It’s their dog, so let them do what they want. If they have to be called out for breaking the ADA law, then insta-famous handlers need to be as well.
I also encourage you to keep your dog on leash and not break ADA law. It just gives us handlers a bad name and lets everyone and their “service dog in training” think they can walk around with their dogs off leash for clout and likes.

How about this- Just because you have a service dog that does certain tasks a certain way, doesn't mean someone elses dog is wrong? If you would have inquired politely instead of posting it on UA-cam for clickbait, maybe you would've found out that the dog barks to alert because the person doesn't notice pawing/nudges when their anxiety is spiked. Your wording was absolutely rude as well. Who gives a shit if they were using a head collar? You dont need to direct(they didn't yank the dog, but directed. Nice try to make them look bad 👌)your dog because it has a prong on. And that dog clearly literally didn't fucking bark at you. It clearly was FACING AT ITS HANDLER. I didn't even see it look at you?? I really hate youtubers who use clickbait. And I know people will say I'm biased, but I have no clue who the fuck this youtuber is, nor the person who said youtuber filmed. I just hate clickbaiters and rude people.

The thing that bothers me is that when Lexi sees another service dog, she always assumes that it's fake. But how does she know what's going on in other people's lives? She doesn't know what stage of training the dog is in or what disability the handler has. It's kinda annoying because she acts like she knows so much about service dogs just because she has one. What if someone else saw Dakota and said "that's a fake service dog"? It just gets on my nerves because Lexi thinks that she is the only one in the world with a service dog when she is not. I'm not saying that PTSD isn't a serious condition, but there are other people out there with service dogs who have much worse conditions. And Lexi is pretty quick to point out "fake service dogs" but again, how does she know for sure? Also, dogs are animals. No matter how much you train them, they are still animals. And any animal can screw up, or even snap! No matter how many years of training they had. It's just the nature of animals. So it really bugs me when she gets mad at other service dogs just because they bark at Dakota or even just look at her.
All I'm saying is that Lexi should stop saying that other service dogs are fake because other people probably think that about her.
    So no hate plz

I know this is a older video, but I do just have to say I have realized with owning a service dog for many years that there are so many people who take advantage of the system. Though they are disabled and may need help these people will take dogs in public that should not be there at all. I know countless handlers, who admit to having a reactive dog, but they think it’s fine because they have “control over their dog“ until they end up seeing a real service dog in public and the dog and stop going ballistic or worse
We went on a vacation to Florida, and as we were driving back, we stopped at Bucc-ees
I was extremely nervous to go into the store because it was absolutely packed full of people, but I tried to go in anyways before I could even enter the door a dog with a service dog vest came out great Dane size and went crazy at my dogs, there was a 14-year-old girl handling that dog. The dog had custom service dog urine. I could tell that this little girl thought her dog was a service dog so she spent her parents money on custom gear, trying to make it look more legit. This infuriated me and I ended up having a super bad panic attack and I couldn’t breathe after 20 minutes when my family was still in there. I ended up going back in and it was extremely stressful. I could hardly move in that store. We went to Disney on our vacation to Florida and we saw so many fakes. We were about to go into Walmart at Tarpon Springs. I believe it’s called but we ended up not going and I think that was honestly the best decision I made because I 100% guarantee you there would’ve been a fake service dog there.
Right before we even officially entered Florida, we stopped at the restrooms with a map so we could find our way around. I noticed a guy had a guide dog from a program, and I thought I was going well until his dog spotted my dog and started to hyper focus and all I was doing was waiting for my brother to get out of the bathroom so we could leave, and as we were leaving to get in the car, this dog ripped the guide handle from the guys hands and came charging up my dog teeth out and everything. That was definitely one of the more scarier experiences I’ve ever had shockingly Disney went pretty well except my dog was almost attacked by two different dogs, but I honestly expected worse because I hear that Disney is notorious for fake service. Dogs and aggressive security dogs. I’m glad that I had full control of my dog but all of these could’ve gone much worse.
I am extremely glad that it did not escalate, but people need to start respecting federal law. I’m really wanting to go back to Disney in late August but honestly I’m so nervous and Wes Biden getting in and raising prices so dramatically it is super hard to be able to afford to go there. I’m trying to convince my family to go especially my dad because he is a retired Marine so he can stay at shades of green for only about $100 a night whereas if you stayed at any other Disney hotel, it would be well over 1k. We all really enjoy Disney. I just think the biggest thing in the way is the money though. We do have a lot of money and we could afford to stay there for a whole year. We have to be really wise about our money and decide if this is a good decision though I think it’s a great decision and it’s such a nice getaway because any other time I am staying home taking care of the farm.

Travelling and being abroad triggers me viciously as well as i am usually getting some medical treatment while overseas or suffering the effects of some bug while there. He is very relentless and accurate. He can get excited when he dectects a problem or I ignore an alert. Your view of others or knowledge of the scope of training and use of service dogs are too limited for you to be this self assured. My dog is trained to get help but not leave my side should he be doing DPT while I am unconscious. If the leash ain't long enough to get to the nearest person he uses the tools he got. Love Yourself it was one bark and the dog immediately was refocused and removed (which if it was too stressed it wouldn’t have been able to follow commands or stay in a heel the way it did as they walked away) which if you read the ADA it says if a dog barks once, but is under control it is fine and continue to film them after the that happened outside (14:30). They’re a real team and people are giving them a lot of hate now because of this video which isn’t fair. It’s not fair for Lexi to use this as click bait to gain views she doesn’t want people to take photos or film her, but yet she can do it to other handlers without consent...

What’s wrong with a gentle leader? I use one for my SDiT, it helps me control his focus and his leash manners were awful before I started using it, if anything, prong collars are 100x worse and can actually hurt your dog.

    • @Olivia-wr5op
      @Olivia-wr5op 5 років тому +2

There is nothing wrong with using an easy leader as long as you use it the way it was intended to be used and in a safe manner. The reason most SD handlers don't like easy leaders is because of a myth that was circulating a few years ago about easy leaders snapping dogs necks. This isn't true and it is just a myth

"It was alerting!!1!1" "service dogs aren't robots!!" Please stop making petty excuses for poorly trained service dogs. The standards for dogs being brought out into public is so low at this point it's embarrassing. First of all that wasn't an alert, that's called dog reactivity. Literally just look at the dog. You would have to know VERY little about dog body language to think that was an alert. And yes, service animals aren't robots, however if your dog is acting like that reactive dog was, it shouldn't be labeled as a service dog in public places.

my SD sometimes bark whenever my anxiety comes (either barks or nudges my leg) (because my anxiety is up the ROOF) and when i pass out she goes gets help as well as barking, sometimes it just means the SD is either warning the handler about something, or just made a mistake. correct SD's AREN'T robots, they aren't "perfect" hell i personally trained my dog and sometimes still am.
i wish people would stop pointing out every fucking mistake a SD did.

God you like publicly humiliating people! It’s a sd (chances are in training) it made a mistake, didn’t even need to be corrected, and walked away with its handler! That’s doesn’t mean you continue to film them just for your UA-cam video, as a service dog handler you should be the one helping enforce the idea of not filming the dogs in public. But instead just for your UA-cam video you filmed them unnecessarily and posted it to social media! This is extremely ignorant.
Also not all reactivity call for people to need to reconsider working their dog. Which again you should know.

Uhm Bri I would say a good 40+% of SD in training have barked, lunged, had some sort of accident, or gone through some sort of reactive problem at some point during training. That doesn’t give her the right to film and post a sd onto a public platform.
