Kolkata should focus on being the north eastern hub of India and try direct flights to Shenzhen, Osaka, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Manila, beijing, shanghai, Chengdu, Busan rather than flights towards london or Dubai because these will increase the investment in West Bengal's manufacturing and service sector.

However the airline has other plans from its obvious hubs at DEL and BOM to operate to those places instead of another airport....hopefully they do change up a bit.
Taipei will be beneficial as Taiwanese companies are looking at countries other than China to invest. But how many fly to Taipei from Kolkata via different routes from Kolkata? The commercials need to be attractive for airlines to operate. Immediate need is for Hong Kong, London, Frankfurt, Colombo and Guangzhou flights to resume. New routes to Bali, Shenzhen, Muscat, Jeddah and Tokyo can be explored.
I can share my view based on my experience inside and outside India. We should understand that Kolkata Airport is behind Delhi IGI by at-least 10-15 years. So its unfair to demand the same services. Now we can definitely argue that Delhi always gets NCR advantage where as Kolkata is still resonated as a prehistoric metropolis for most of the people outside Bengal. Coming back to CCU, first disadvantage, it has got only one big operational runway which is being used for passenger flights. The other one is used only for very small flights. So if for instance KLM , Lufthansa, Air India (London), United Airlines joins in, CCU won’t be able to handle the air traffic with just one runway. Coz all of these companies except AirIndia uses minimum 777 category flights for long haul distances. Next disadvantage, for any international flight, one needs top class hanger facilities incase necessary. For CCU neither it has sufficient nor it has top class hangars inside the airport. I think Indigo and Air India maintains their hangars but they are not upto Lufthansa mark. (Although things are improving after Air India takeover, so we have to wait and watch). Then on third comes the terminal issue, which although is very beautiful but still there are a few problems with the existing terminal. One is cleanliness, i have already seen vomit a couple of times on the international arrival terminal and it had dried up which means the cleaning department is not to that standard. Then secondly, apart from the structure it self there are very less amount of brands which has opened shops in the terminal (including duty free ones) i mean a terminal with a passenger capacity of 26 lakhs and the terminal has so little to offer, its not acceptable. If someone travels to Australia and they have a stopover at CCU for 8 hours they need proper sleep and rest . The airport just have two lounges which are not even in the level of Plaza Premium. So there are a lot of obstacles why we come to CCU via Delhi or Bombay. To change the scenario we need a second airport (within 25 kms) and that one should be of standards to outclass any airport in the world. Although this is a different story with many political obstacles but so is the truth.😑
One runway isn't an issue. Look at BOM and LGW. They handle a lot of flights. The RETs at the airport (not yet inaugurated) have been built for a reason.
As far as I know, BOM doesn’t have a single runway, it has two cross directional Runways and two different Terminals which are connected by bus service. And even then they struggle to cater people and air traffic. For this reason a new Airport is coming up in Navi Mumbai. Regarding LGW, it was designed to support Heathrow and also as a hub of British Airways. It was planned for roughly 25 million passengers and today more than 40 million passengers use that airport. Result? Thousands of passengers get stranded due to delays every year in that airport. Kolkata Airport is one of the airports in India which is situated inside the city perimeter, therefore no more space to extend. Hence a second international airport is desirable.

@@ssarkar2009 info I got is they will in 2025 introduce direct CCU-LHR. By 2026 they plan to connect all the metro cities of India to LHR. AI will announce anything by surprise. They recently announced the resumption of the BKK service. Also they have been sending widebodies from Delhi on many occasions recently on account of increased demand. Next week or so CCU will open up the new taxiways and RETs too.
Kolkata should make use of its geography and become a hub in India especially for "'Asia Pacific countries"', Middle East and central-northern Russia. It should have direct flights to Beijing, Kunming, Lhasa, Hong Kong, Shenzen, Taipei and Shanghai Tokyo, Osaka. Bangkok, Phuket & Chiang Mai Ho Chi Minh & Hanoi Seoul & Busan Manila, Jakarta, Bali, Kuala Lumpur & Singapore Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Fiji, Polynesia, Hawaii. Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Vladivostok. Almaty, Tashkent, Tehran, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Athens, Cairo, Milan, London & Paris Mauritius, Nairobi, Addis Ababa & Cape Town.
Phillipines, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand would go down well especially with IndiGo and maybe some Central Asian and Russian destinations but not really with the European, Australian, American ones...factor being the low yields we have. Unless cargo valuation doesn't increase we won't get much of a connection to Europe or to any developed nation in the West really.
But after the introduction of intercontinental planes(no need to refuel) , and with the addition of 1971 war and political conditions here in bengal, airlines started opting out & here we are today. P.s.- businesses, industries na thakle.. foot fall na hole, airlines won't give a damn to "geographical location" in this era.

West Bengal should promote Kolkata for Tourism , Medical destination , Education, but for Tourism, you need infrastructure , friendly surroundings , easy access to travel nearby cities, which is somehow missing there . On the other hand, Oman is a nice country to visit .A clean , environmentally supportive city , clean sea beaches and roads . Many tourist , including India do visit Oman when temperature is low( Sept to March) . Oman Air can take advantage of Oman, being the national career .

Hi bro. Can you tell me the timing of the current Kolkata- Kunming flight? Ekhane lokera airport r moddhe dariye khaini khae sekhane kono boro flight ashbe na.
All these routes were operational pre-covid. I took the CCU - HKG flight in 2018. Kolkata to Kunming and Guangzhou by China Eastern were also operational back in 2018. So amra egulo abar fire pachhi. We hope we get more direct flights to East Asia - Seoul, Tokyo, Manila etc. Infrastructure wise, we are lagging behind. We are the only airport who cant operate parallel runways. We don't have a 60m wide runway either for heavier aircraft. Also a new terminal building would help, the current terminal is not sufficient for operating so many international flights. Neither is it very clean and swanky. The wifi doesn't work, the charging points don't work. The seats are in terrible conditions. Also more business here might necessitate more international connections, right now a CCU-LHR flight is not very viable compared to BOM or DEL.
Unfortunately the new terminal would all but be a much worse terminal in terms of space (as they will crowd in 20 jetways into two concourses from a narrow terminal building it seems like just like what some terminals are in the US). We can refurbish the existing terminal however. Also am not aware of China Eastern ever operating a Guangzhou flight out of Kolkata, not in my experience. IndiGo did it instead.
CCU-LHR is viable. Not daily, but bi-weekly. A330-200 and other smaller wide body long range aircraft will be perfect for this route. There are tens of thousands Bengali diaspora in the UK plus thousands who go to work and study in the UK. In Puja and Christmas, the traffic is more when additional flights can run.
@@sanjay59741 not biweekly, there are also many people going to other places in the EU and North America. LHR is a good place to connect through and it could easily do at least 5 times a week. I take LH connection of HYD for example. The route has a much lower number of pax than even the CCU-LHR route to FRA but they will still go 5x a week because transfer pax is huge. Plus cargo value is high, a place where Kolkata lacks in, high cargo values.
Kolkata needs to get back it's previous international flights first. Recently Thai Airways withdrew it's flight which was a Kolkata regular for many many years. Kolkata needs to get back Thai, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Gulf Air, Srilankan, Nepal Airlines, Royal Brunei, Royal Jordanian, Cathay Dragon, etc. After that newer probable airlines like Malaysia Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Saudia, Oman Air, Cathay Pacific and others would be welcome
The only think that Kolkata needs is a government that can bring tremendous growth and invite FDIs. There are no big industries or big corporates in Kolkata like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc. Young people don’t come from other states for college or professional career. How can you expect an increase in flights if there are no passengers willing to come to this city 🤦🏻♂️. The young generation of Kolkata are leaving the city to study and settle abroad or other states in India🤦🏻♂️
Khali Kolkata-London direct keno. Why not Kolkata-New York ba Kolkata-Toronto direct ? Air Canada flies nonstop Toronto-Delhi and Montreal-Delhi. I hope to see Toronto-Kolkata direct soon. There is a huge diaspora of Bengalis in Canada/USA. Eyi direct flight shuru hole khub sell hobe.

Explain to me then how does EK at CCU get >80% load in business class that too genuine pax and more or less 90% load in economy? Yes connections at Dubai is one answer but a lot do travel to Europe and NA. I'm sure the AAI has data as to how many pax on these flights are travelling business all the way to their final destinations. If BA or VS could start a flight to LHR it would be a much better option for many.

3 reasons Why Nscbi fail 1 - Only 6 international gates 2- Lack of Revenue generated 3- No terminal expansion permissions from TMC. To make Nscbi a major hub 1st approach and start Gulf countries and East Pacific airlines operations. Based on that European Airlines will come.
Another Destination /Route from Kolkata is long pending , that is Kolkata -Muscat route . Many Years back there was Royal Brunei , There was Gulf Air , who were operating Muscat-Kolkata Route . Slowly , those were stopped . Now , it is the high time any progressive Airlines should seriously look into this sector. Oman Air , Air India, Indigo should think about this profit earning sector . They will get passengers for nearby cities as well . If Emirates, Etihad can run and make profit , in this sector for so many years, why not Oman Air Or Air India Or Indigo ? Whoever does it, they can go further down in this route to Thailand , Malaysia or Singapore sector . Because they can get additional passengers for these sectors via Kolkata Route. But will it happen ? If so, when?

Thanks for sharing the same and keep up the good coverage. There might be lot of issues at present due to which Kolkata is not having much international flights. But escpecially in last 2 years, things are changing for good. It is not always important to focus on issues like what we dont have, or what other cities have achieved etc. Rather it is more important to focus on the grey areas and work to improve the same. In cities like Kolkata and Mumbai, it is difficult to identify land nearby to the existing airport for expansion but it is more important to utilize the existing space. At this moment the important part is to attract more and more business which is already on track just need to keep the momentum and a postive and business friendly attitude. Also now a days, most of the newly grown cities have their airport far away from main city, so in case in future even we can think of a second airport in Kalyani or may other suitable areas in South 24 parganas as well.

HKG er at max transit demand ache, hardly any P2P demand. Sydney te approx 20k roundtrip pax chilo 2019, prochondo Kom akta direct flight er jonno. Jodi puro AUS er kotha bolte jayi tahole 30k roundtrip pax 2019 e. 50k roundtrip pax korte parle at least two times a week widebody flight cholte parbe but profitable hobe na (unless belly cargo very high hoe).
@@ayushghosh1155 lets see. weekly ya biweekly flights between Aus-CCU is possible. Oe vabe dekhle to Indiar 2/3 te city chara kono airport ae flight chalano possible na...
That is right. All international flights from kolkata was always full. Forget about flight Air India does not even know how to pronounce kolkata. They say kolkata. This is what Air India’s attitude to Kolkata. There is absolutely no reason not to start a direct flight to London from Kolkata with immediate effect.
Thanks @BengalWithRohit for making this video.
Kolkata should make use of its geography and become a hub in India especially for "'Asia Pacific countries"', Middle East and central-northern Russia. It should have direct flights to
Beijing, Kunming, Lhasa, Hong Kong, Shenzen, Taipei and Shanghai
Tokyo, Osaka.
Bangkok, Phuket & Chiang Mai
Ho Chi Minh & Hanoi
Seoul & Busan
Manila, Jakarta, Bali, Kuala Lumpur & Singapore
Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Fiji, Polynesia, Hawaii.
Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Vladivostok.
Almaty, Tashkent, Tehran, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Athens, Cairo, Milan, London & Paris
Mauritius, Nairobi, Addis Ababa & Cape Town.
Wishful thinking...
Yes well said.
কলকাতা থেকে direct London, Frankfurt, New York , Los Angelus এবং Tokyo flight ✈️ চাই।
Jak ato bolar por banalay video ta thank you 🙏

Air India to Frankfurt and Warsaw.

@@BengalWithRohit Doesn't operate Rohit. Eta ektu video te change korte hobe. Oder slots ache but ota flights shuru koreni.
Well said.
Please start Kolkata London flight again
Hmm
Thanks for the info.
Yes
Kolkata needs to get back it's previous international flights first. Recently Thai Airways withdrew it's flight which was a Kolkata regular for many many years. Kolkata needs to get back Thai, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Gulf Air, Srilankan, Nepal Airlines, Royal Brunei, Royal Jordanian, Cathay Dragon, etc. After that newer probable airlines like Malaysia Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Saudia, Oman Air, Cathay Pacific and others would be welcome
No thai airways is operating from kolkata but it is being operated by thai smile.

Thanks a lot 😊
More flights From Kolkata to Europe are required.
Yes
The only think that Kolkata needs is a government that can bring tremendous growth and invite FDIs. There are no big industries or big corporates in Kolkata like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc. Young people don’t come from other states for college or professional career. How can you expect an increase in flights if there are no passengers willing to come to this city 🤦🏻♂️. The young generation of Kolkata are leaving the city to study and settle abroad or other states in India🤦🏻♂️

It is not about infra it is about prospect of the region..Bengal has pathetic business scenario so minimum business travellers.

3 reasons Why Nscbi fail
1 - Only 6 international gates
2- Lack of Revenue generated
3- No terminal expansion permissions from TMC.

And the Shame is Passenger has to wait for even 1 hour for Baggage etc

Kolkata basically akta regional airport, south-east asian country gulor sathe connected..kichu fact bole di,
1. Primary & Secondary runway simultaneously functional noy, because of shorter 2nd runway and morever, lesser distance in between, sejanna capacity barano sombhob noy (Landing/ Take off capacity).
2. Hanger ar taxyway barie total capacity 35 million obdi jete pare, but that project is strategically delayed due to lower recovery of traffic in Kolkata after covid, in comparison to other indian cities.
3. International destination bareni, borong komeche last 5-10 years time a..due to seasonal and inconsistent demand and low business class occupancy. Amra hariechi british airways, luthfansa etc.
5. Jegulo new airline bolecho video te, tara either existing route a frequency barieche, or already served route a (by other airline) flight dieche, not connecting to new destination, South East asia, UAE, Dubai chhara.
5. Amar Tweet gulo unresponded - United Airlines, British Airways, Lufhfansa since 2 years..ogulo next 10 years kolkatay asar chance nei bollei chole.
6. GVK is quality service provide at present. But CCU privatsation er against a AAI kormira hortal korechilo (affiliated to the then and present local ruling party)..tai ota privatise hobar chance nei..CCU remains at Substandard category in all terms Carbon emmission, passenger handing, cargo handling, Runway quality, hanger, Hygiene and cleanliness etc. R purono airport a chaileo sob infrastructure natun vabe kora possible noy..New Airport political rivalry te hobar chance nei..

Bengal se announced hote rahe gaya.colombo se hyd indigo ne announced kar diya😂😂

@@avanibala4605 I know this feeling. I also feel bad to think about past. In that time Bangalore and Hyderabad was not even close to Kolkata. But I think now we can't do anything. We have to accept it is our past yes we would feel bad but have to accept the reality. West Bengal is the perfect example of how Political party can ruin a glorious and richest state and city perfectly in just 60 years. Whole West bengal and even Kolkata Gdp per capita is very low. No hope from Bengal what TMC and Cpm did in past current generation is paying for it. I don't have any plan to stay in Bengal.
