I've made it my mission since marvel I want to show off the least flashy, most optimal combos I can. There's tons of stuff out there that looks sick, and does less damage and while I think there is value in knowing what looks cool, for me as an educator it distracts from what I am trying to do.

Hey dude there is an error in the combo you showed in the description, BNB1: MMH, homing dash, LL, down+H, double jump, > LLS < , QCB+M, super It's not LLS but LMS, if you do LLS you will only end up with 4070 damage instead of 4225 without the super.
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out my team for her. I know that I want her on point, and I also like Gohan so I want him as an anchor, but I'm trying to figure out who I want as my assist. I'm thinking either Goku Black or Vegeta, since Black's beam assist can both cover an approach and extend combos, and Vegeta can pressure or extend combos.

I do a lot of combo videos for other games, and I learned the lesson while doing Marvel vs capcom that theres simply far far far too many inputs in these styles of game to make it legibible to show them all on screen. So that's why I put them in the video description and always note at the start of the video they are there.

As you showed, I never thought about how the teleport is effectively a cancel. I need to experiment more...I always feel behind others when trying to find combos. I do wonder though, people seem to always lead light into medium when doing air combos, any known reason for this or is it an optimal route as I have been going medium into lights.
Medium into light as a general rule is better, however stuff like LL down+h, jump cancel LLS knee dive only possible with the light-light added air gain trick. Going medium into light gonna drop your combo.
Hey Rooflemonger, since the absorb mechanism has changed, may se ask you to revisit this pls ? I believe now that there's a higher combo decay when they are combined in a combo.

... Shit... She's a mainstay on my team with hit, but how in the world do you hit those long combos??? I'm just now getting the hang of how to jump cancel into other attacks. And that's after like practicing it for 3 hours strait just getting down muscle memory.
Its practice my friend. Keep in mind someone like me, I am in my 30's and have been playing fighting games since street fighter 2 in 1991. If you struggle don't consider it the end of the world! Practice does make perfect as I have very little natural talent outside of maybe reaction speed, everything else I had to practice practice practice for. That said to me its simply more rewarding than any other kind of game experience period as no other game lets you see your progress in skill and knowledge like a fighting game can.
rooflemonger thanks man, I'm a smash player, so coming from that to an actual fighting game is like a fish stepping on land for me. Ima keep labbing combos until I get them down. This game is really high speed so its a bit hard to figure out my timing for combos but I'm gonna get them down.
Keep at it! Its always hard at first but its the human condition to understand and adapt. What you find hard right now, a month from now you will find trivial. You always progress forwards.
Way too early to say whose great with what, but I will say Goku/Goku Black cause of their assist basically works well with everyone. Their beam assists are in my opinion the best overall pound for pound assists because of how universally useful they are in all situations.
On your second bread and butter combo. How do you stay in the air after you used your jump cancel? It says double jump, but it doesn’t work when I try it.
Remember to check the notations! I am using light, light instead of light medium as it gives you more vertical air than doing it "properly". Without it you basically can't do the combo because you won't be high enough up in the air.
Well the first down heavy you homing dash, the second one you use your double jump. You may just need to practice there is no hidden tricks about the combo. Just make sure you don't use up your one and only double jump elsewhere.

Honestly can't say I have ever heard complaints about it. its just background music I don't know why it would be any different when the gameplay is slow mo.
Quick question, how are you getting so much height on those Heavy air cancels in the corner? I seem to just barely am able to get the hit after it. Any tips is appreciated. Edit: Didn't ready video description like an idiot.
In my opinion only, SS goku should be the anchor, and android 21 should be up front. Her assist is ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and she benefits the most from having a long match and being able to get absorbs going. Having adult gohan in the middle sets him up for an easy tag super to get to level 1 as well vs starting on point with nothing.

That's the kinda thing I am in the middle of figuring out right now :-0 I do have a general pressure guide planned for a few days from now but the character specifics will take time to figure out.
Keep in mind these combos are using the auto combo trick so check the notations. I am not hitting light medium I am hitting light light, as that brings you up higher in the air that way. But all double jumps I enter up/forward right after the hit.
How do you get the follow up to the jump canceled 2H? They're always too high up for the combo to continue so they drop out. Also, I'm always too low / they're too high when trying to do 0:17 EDIT: Okay, so I figured it out right after asking. You're supposed to press LL instead of LM for some reason. Guess I should have checked the notation in the description.
Make sure to check the combo notes in the vid description! As I mentioned in the 7 essential tips vid, I am not doing light medium, but in fact Light light, and it auto combos into the medium, gaining you more height than normal.

Its the exact same combo, just instead right before the launch you can go into a heavy. You can use light, light, light and then down + heavy as the 3 lights will auto combo into a normal heavy for you.

Thought about it but no. I personally hate the numpad notation to begin with which is the big strike against it. And a very large amount of people watching these vids will simply not even begin to understand what that means since DBFZ is bringing in so many new players.

You're something else. Is there any chance you could do a tutorial on how you come up with combos? Because DBFZ is the first fighting game I've ever tried to practice and play seriously, and it's all I can do to practice other people's combos.
Well I think "how" I come up with combos is just experience in fighting games in general. I guess I already know certain things to look for that won't be obvious to someone who is newer to the genre.

It bugs me watching people play 21. So few of them even attempt to snatch moves, despite the fact that they do nothing but improve her options. Seriously, the Kamehameha, homing ball, Sonic Warp, and Vegeta grab are super useful, and characters linked to them are really popular. Like, almost every team will have someone to grab the first three from.
its fully dependent on their team, so you by essence can't build your gameplan around it as you have no control over what you get. Any combo where you do the absorb you are giving up damage as they are not optimal. Honestly the more I play with her the more I know absorb is more a gimmick than anything else. Its fine enough as your command grab style move in that regard, and if you happen to get something useful like kamehameha great, but its not a big deal and if you try to make it a big deal, you will start playing her sub-optimally.
You're definitely not wrong. It's very dependent, and best not to completely focus on. However, the way I look at it is damage isn't always everything, and sometimes giving up some of it is worth creating opportunities. Kinda like opting to not super on a hard knockdown and going for the mixup. Conversely, creating opportunities when you could finish a character is a waste. For a comparison from a different game is T. Hawk in USF4. His light grab is weak, but gives him powerful oki, making it generally more useful than his heavy grab, which does heavy damage...but is far less useful due to leaving him far away. I guess the moral is to just play it by ear, huh?

I'm having trouble with the double jump part. Do you tap up twice, or diagonal I.E 9 on the numberpad?

does the beam assist combo get patched out or something, i used to be able to do it now they recover before my super dash
Nothing about the gameplay has changed. You must have changed your timing at some point.
Where are the combo notations of those absorb combos? I don't see them in the description...
Double absorb combo same basic combo as already written down. Just absorb, vanish, do the other absorb.
Man when you do the double jump, can I just do up up or do I have to up right up right?
just up/forward diagonally. One input.
To do these combos do u use the d-pad or the analog stick or does it even matter which 1 to use

Practice makes perfect! If you are missing your double jump then you may be doing it too early.
What is your opinion on her total detonation ball? Is it worth expending your 4 absorbed moves for it?
The move by itself is a pretty ho-humn projectile but for the ex its only worth burning if its gonna kill. The moves are too handy to have to not use.

LL auto combo is generally the way to go for her, she needs the height.
yea i figured. This game's auto combo system is not just for casuals to enjoy the game. It's actually mandatory for some optimal combos.
How on earth do you get the QCB+M off after the LLS attack? No matter what I do it just won't activate in the air after the string.

If it won't activate, it means you are too slow I guess. I am simply special canceling the S into qcb+M, nothing special.
I find these combos impossible to do, because it says double jump but when I try to double jump it does nothing and the opponent is in the air(bnb1)

If you are not getting your jump cancel, that means you are doing it much too early. Hold on a split second then go for it.

If you have the season pass you can get a download to unlock her for free without beating story. That said you should play the story mode its a blast!

Any combo where you do the absorb you are giving up damage as they are not optimal. Honestly the more I play with her the more I know absorb is more a gimmick than anything else. Its fine enough as your command grab style move in that regard, and if you happen to get something useful like kamehameha great, but its not a big deal and if you try to make it a big deal, you will start playing her sub-optimally.
You're definitely not wrong. It's very dependent, and best not to completely focus on.
However, the way I look at it is damage isn't always everything, and sometimes giving up some of it is worth creating opportunities. Kinda like opting to not super on a hard knockdown and going for the mixup.
Conversely, creating opportunities when you could finish a character is a waste.
For a comparison from a different game is T. Hawk in USF4. His light grab is weak, but gives him powerful oki, making it generally more useful than his heavy grab, which does heavy damage...but is far less useful due to leaving him far away.
I guess the moral is to just play it by ear, huh?

whatever into absorb(any combo strings work fine), vanish, then qcb absorb. Only works in airborne combos.
