For me, Jason embodies everything figure skating should strive to be. There is such quality in everything he does, and he does it all within a fully choreographed from start to finish, musically sensitive program. He really is one of a kind. Bravo, Jason👍👏👏👏

Absolutely the most beautiful skater to watch right now. He may not have the most difficult jumps, but he executes his programs flawlessly with gorgeous choreography and artistry. Honestly wish the ISU would value this type of skater more.

And for anyone saying they should have sent someone else… Brown came in 5th! With Ilia’s first place, the U.S. has 3 entries for next year’s Worlds. The other American (Pulkinen) finished 20th and fortunately doesn’t figure into the equation. (Top 2 placements equal to or less than 13 - so 1+5=6 ) Was there another U.S. man who could have done that? Doubtful.
Isabeau Levito’s silver & Amber Glenn’s 10th mean the ladies eke out a 3rd too. (2+10=12) and ice dance gets 3 also (1+7=8). Pairs finished 11 & 12, so US will continue with 2 spots.
At least, that’s how I understand the way it works.

I went back to watch this again tonight to make sure it was as incredible as I thought. It was better! Reminded me of the golden age of figure skating when artistry and footwork were prized above jumping. I dream it will ever look like this again someday. This was gold medal beautiful. ❤
Every time I replay Jason’s Skating it gets better and better there is so much detail and intricacy that I discover something new each time
If we really had equal scoring for jumps and artistry and skating skills. he would have been second. No falls and a perfect program.

Without Yuzuru I didn't believe to see this in a male skating competition anymore. Love your skating and enjoy it very much. Yes he’s an amazing artist. But he deserves more credit as an athlete. What he’s doing is insanely difficult. He is an artist and an incredible elite athlete!
His edging is insane! So difficult, I'm betting a lot of the current male field would trip over their own feet trying to do what he does. But they have quads so get more points.
People get stuck on the word "artistry" and think of a painter sitting on a stool and stroking a brush over canvas. They think it takes no energy or physical work. Everything in figure skating takes energy and hard training. The effective display of artistry requires an intense level of physical fitness.

Thanks so much for posting. I've been a fan of his forever. Almost a shame he has to bother putting in the jumps and staying technically competitive. They should just let him dance his heart out for 4 and a half minutes and give the others a masterclass on the artistry they are sorely missing.
You are welcome, I started taking videos for myself because it is too hard to try and track events in my real life, I just dont have the time but taking and posting on youtube gave me a way to watch the events I went too and sometimes I just put them in a loop and listen-- I would have taped everyone but had limitations of memory and battery --- thank you for enjoying with me !

RIverdance is hard to beat
My late mom was a big fan ever since Riverdance. He is the end of an era, from the great artists like Orser and Boitano. I don't enjoy the quadfests. The scoring system Is so flawed. The sport will be so diminished when he goes.

I will take Jason's artistry over some jumping one-trick pony any day. I was a skater back when Janet Lynn was skating at the same rink. Without artistry, figure skating is just overachieving hockey.

Jason is amazing as usual artistically and well deserved high PC and GOE. He killed the PC and GOE and won the PC in the free skate. However, as we objectively mentioned before, he can't win a World medal if it is fully attended by all of the best skaters currently. There are too many other skaters that can do quads. Where was Matteo Rizzo and Daniel Grassel? The russians are not in attendance either as well as Jin Boyan. These are others that can do quads and beat Jason as well sometimes. Jason skated basically perfect tonight and still got 5th. Jason can't control his opportunity for a medal and has to rely on others' mistakes. Jason lost us when he kept telling us that he will do the quad year after year after year and never delivered. We knew he would need one to be relevant or have an opportunity to win a medal. We do think he represents the US well; however, he can't win a World or Olympic medal that is fully attended by the current best skaters. Also, we tend to root against him because of all the people that don't like our objective opinion. We have been right for years. Do we think he can win a World or Olympic individual medal? Yes, we do, but only if the best skaters opt out of the Championships/Olympics. That is the only way. Some people were making fun of Vincent Zhou, but he has 2 World bronze medals and Jason has zero. They also didn't think Ilia shouldn't have been at the last Olympics, but we were correct here too as now Ilia not only won a World bronze last year, but also now has a World Gold medal. Congrats on a good skate Jason, but we are sorry if it's hard for us to want to cheer for you when others try to disprove us or not accept our objective opinion.
But the focus on "who can do the most quads" is precisely the problem with men's skating now. Skating used to be about a combination of artistry and power and now it just seems to be "who can put together a series of hand motions between jumps". There's no story or artistic aspect to most of the performances anymore because all they focus on is how to get from one quad to the next. It's boring. Give me 10 Jason Browns any day.
@@jrl723 If we were a jason hater, then we would say he sucks. we are saying he is excellent in the PCS and GOE. he is not a complete skater. Ilia isn't either. Ilia lacks in the PCS and GOE compared to the top skaters. jason is just a great show and exhibition skater. we are not in the 80s. well, actually, there was a quad at the 1989 Worlds. We are in the 2020s and mid way too and over 30 years later. we need to progress the sport and not stay in the 80s. should we have told people not to do triples and stay with doubles. how boring is that? simone biles stop progressing the sport and doing more tucks and twists. please don't do the quads, i'm scared. little girls can do quads too and beat jason in the TES. that's pathetic. jason and you just hate quads because jason can't do one, while Ilia can do 6X more. if you want to be back in the 80s, then don't use your smart phone any more. you people get mad because quads are killing jason's chances for a World/Olympic medal. we do think jason can win one, but only if all of the best skaters are not attending or they make mistakes. chen, hanyu, uno, wylie, urmanov, hamilton, boitano, browning, etc. are more complete skaters with both TES and PCS and were great champions with multiple individual World and Olympic medals. people like you make us dislike jason and start rooting against him. we are going to stop here and not listen to people like you because you make us want to hate jason more and that's not what we want.
It is a combination of both technical scores and artistry/PCS. And now it is really the quads era. If one don't master in any of the quads, there is really no chance to medal.
Why the royal “we” affectation? That really colors how your small-minded rants are perceived.
Jason is the finest artistic male skater since John Curry.
The competitive landscape has changed drastically over the years. The sport has overtaken the artistry to the point it’s a repetitive “1-2-3-jump, skate-skate-3 turn-jump” format.
It was called “figure skating” for a reason. 60% of the total score was based on how well those figure 8s were traced. Short & long programs made up the other 40%. But times change, and audiences wanted flashier, sexier performances.
But what has been sacrificed in the process are the exquisite edges, deep knees, and all the nuances that the school figures brought to the skaters’ performances. All things that Jason has in abundance.
So to compare today’s skating - and making the argument that because Scotty & others were champs that Jason is inferior by comparison is ridiculous. None of those skaters had quads either. Had Jason been skating during that timeframe when the contemporary skaters of the time like Scotty were competing, Jason would have held his own with the best of them, because the landscape didn’t have quads as a requirement to be considered a great skater.
Heck, for all his prowess and incredible skating both as an amateur and a pro, Kurt Browning’s Olympic showings were dismal. He NEVER won an Olympic medal. He even remarked that “I guess the Olympics are just not my thing.” It doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great skater.
Your arguments are akin to how baseball has been homogenized for the casual fan with the attention span of a gnat: They don’t appreciate the artistry of a no-hitter - they just want home runs. 🥱 Today the fans want explosions of power, not the subtle nuances of “little ball” and the intricate strategies involved.
In short… it’s lazy fandom that gives rise to comparisons such as “all hat… no cattle.” 😒
If people keep saying Jason is great, then you'll root against him? Who are you? Threaten people like that? You are objective? Bitter and sour are more suitable words to describe you. Who else can have a say about the things Jason chose to do? Doesn't he know that he needs quads to podium ? Don't we know? But we celebrate he still fights without a single one. We admire him for he always gives it all on ice. Yes, he has the technical weakness, but he makes up for it with his stunning artistry. We respect him for his sportsmanship, medal or not. He earned people's appreciation with what he has accomplished and his spirit. Those who think it's nothing can just save their time by not watching him skate and not saying ridiculous things.

If you think that his “Riverdance” is “the same” as “Sinnerman” you’re delusional.
Jason won a silver medal at the most recent US nationals and placed 5th at Worlds. To say he is not a competitive skater is absolutely insane. Simply being able to do a quad does not mean you are a world class skater or have a chance to win. Just ask some of the men who placed below him. You obviously do not know much about figure skating.
I loathe this music but he skates so beautifully that I forget how horrible this song is.

I paid my dues, I sat thru all theses skating shows with Sarah Brightman and Pavarotti like it’s a tomato sauce commercial in the 90’s.

He can do everything else, and better than most. And the judges know it, which is why he had a 5th place finish at Worlds. Saying someone who finished in the top 5 should retire is utterly brainless.
