I’m not sure if many people noticed this but the song he’s skating to is called Sinnerman which is an African-American spiritual song. As a dancer, a lot of his movements look like they’re from a dance style called Horton, which was taught during segregation and made famous by the african american dancer, Alvin Ailey. I think it’s really awesome that he incorporated those elements. It really shows to me that he’s not just competing, he’s performing art.
Yes, he did many interviews throughout the season about how this was a tribute to Ailey! He's a real scholar of dance and art history and tries to use his skating to showcase the masters that younger audiences should know more about. His co-choreographer, Rohene Ward, is also exceptional with that -- they're a perfect pair.
The scarce audience consisted almost entirely of skaters and coaches, and that's why he got the loudest and certainly most enthusiastic cheers, because they appreciate how incredibly difficult and perfectly executed his programs are.
The amplitude on his split jumps make my jaw drop every time. His lines, his interpretation of his program music - Jason is the total package. Skaters today worry about jumps & quads, but Jason is so clean and technically sound. That's why he's so refreshing.
He’s so artistic & graceful & almost cat like in this routine - he reminds me a bit of Guillaume Cizeron - he could’ve been a ballet dancer if he wasn’t a figure skater.
Since 2018 Jason Brown has been the KING of the men's short program (shout out to Rohene Ward, choreographer). Sinnerman is truly beautiful, uplifting, meaningful and memorizing. Oh wow, I hope Jason skates for a few more years. Men's competitive figure skating will not be the same without him. In a sea of endless quads, he consistently brings the beauty and the joy.
Seriously the magnitude of his skating is hard to describe!! He’s a master of his craft, passion and perfection! This short is a masterpiece in figure skating!!
You would rarely encounter this kind of skater today. So artistic, passionate and of high quality skating skills! Wouldn't trade this for any number of jumps! You've earned my respect Jason. Keep skating! 😘😘😘
I’m not a skater so my words may fall short for some; but as I see it Jason is everything that skating should be. As a non technical fan, he just makes me want to skate and dance. It’s hard work and genuine joy. He was my favorite part of the Olympics.
This is the best short program I have seen in the last few years. The choreographer, coach and Jason composed something worthy of the Olympics. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
An incredible skater, to somehow minimize his technical skills because of a lack of quads would be insane. He is a technical prodigy when it comes to skating, and then on top of that his artistry is amazing. One of the best shorts in the last 2 decades.
It's frustrating that people talk about his artistry as though he isn't also one of the most technically excellent skaters in the field. He has better skating skills than Olympic champion and he deserves recognition for that
Artistry was a big thing in figure skating for a long time! It's nice to see it again! Jason Brown skates a lot like of skaters that I watched growing up! He even does a move that was introduced by Brian Boitano! Absolutely brilliant!
This is my favorite short program of the season as it keeps getting better and better. What a beautiful piece of art, so expressive, distinctive and on a unbelievably high level of musicality! Thank you, Jason! 🥰 This is what the sport is about!
And this scored less in PCS than Nathan Chen 🤡🤡 That's absurd and unacceptable, the amount of transitions and choreography in this program is not even comparable with what Nathan did, not to mention the perfect interpretation of the music Brown had throughout all the program (and not only during the step sequence...)
They need to change 2 things asap: a) pay the judges so they're less susceptible to corruption b) have separate judging panels for the two parts of the score to avoid "cross-contamination" from high TES
Yes, I don't understand the Nathan Chen hype and love -- and i am American. Nathan's jumps are amazing, but his posture alone (and untucked shirt -- ha ha) should disqualify Nathan for that high PCS. Jason's posture, lines and carriage are so perfect, and every position is perfect. I heard a (Scottish??) commentator say once "you could slo mo Jason's entire performance and not be able to find one ugly moment".
@@113musikpolizei6 There ARE, and have always have been, 2 separate panels. The technical panel calls the elements and the levels of the elements, determines under rotations, incorrect edges, etc. The judges grade the execution/ quality of the elements and the component scores.
Never liked Chen. I think his free in the Olympics was dull. Certainly a routine I will never seek to watch again. Jason Brown, I can watch him all day. A true artist
I am glad to live at the same time with this program. And I believe it will be the golden heritage to many generations of skaters and audiences after. I know quads are the athleticism, but to conjure such a gem you have to be twice as athletic.
Just saying that Jason Brown should go down in history as THE MOST artistic skater there is. It’s a shame all the skating world cares about is jumps because Jason’s PERFORMANCE is truly incomparable
one thing I noticed is that a lot of what he does is from a dance style called horton (look it up) and the fact that he wove it throughout the performance is really incredible even though most people won’t even realize
@@carrietremble4497 yes and it showed. Frankly, it showed in his skating over the last couple years. He needed a coach. The way he was jumping his body into oblivion during practice and warm-ups was incredibly hard to watch. So it’s obvious you are correct he didn’t have a coach. Because if he did, he would not to behaved that way. A coach would have dragged him off the ice by his ear. Brian told him what he needed to do to win. But that wasn’t what he was focused on. His loan focus on that quadruple axle which hurt the rest of his skating. It was obvious from the first minute he took the ice did not practice his other jumps at the same level. I like Yuzaru, but I do not think of him as a particular responsible champion.
That is the most insane footwork and most beautiful body imagery I've ever seen any skater do

Amazing program.! As only Jason could do!
Thank you so much for your comment!
i’m a dancer and i noticed the Horton as well!
This. I love him so much 🖤
The scarce audience consisted almost entirely of skaters and coaches, and that's why he got the loudest and certainly most enthusiastic cheers, because they appreciate how incredibly difficult and perfectly executed his programs are.
Yuzuru Hanyu certainly showed the strongest reaction to him in the free skate.
@@rodneymills6477 Yes, indeed. And they also trained together for a few years, so I think Hanyu was happy for him for that reason as well.
The amplitude on his split jumps make my jaw drop every time. His lines, his interpretation of his program music - Jason is the total package. Skaters today worry about jumps & quads, but Jason is so clean and technically sound. That's why he's so refreshing.
He is a beautiful, energetic soul and it expresses in his artistry. THAT is what I wish to see in ice skating!
Yes yes and yes, not these awful jump drills, but real skating. There’s a reason it’s not called figure jumping
He had the most beautifull programm, Jason is a piece of art.
He’s so artistic & graceful & almost cat like in this routine - he reminds me a bit of Guillaume Cizeron - he could’ve been a ballet dancer if he wasn’t a figure skater.
I agree

This is probably one of the best choreographies of all time. Just WOW! 🤩
🤔 really ?

Can't agree more!
@@davidbondy6599 same! I’ve watched his programs over and over again!
When the coach said, "What an incredible ride. Thank you!" I think she was speaking for all of us

Well said!!!!
I think he skates the most beautifully out of all the competitors.
This is the best short program I have seen in the last few years. The choreographer, coach and Jason composed something worthy of the Olympics. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
Legendary. We were all blessed to receive that incredible skate
The ease in his whole bearing really undersells his amazing technical skills. He's so amazing!

Still coming back to watch this masterpiece again and again
I so enjoyed the enthusiasm he showed and the wonderful comments from his coaches. Well done, Jason, indeed.
It's frustrating that people talk about his artistry as though he isn't also one of the most technically excellent skaters in the field. He has better skating skills than Olympic champion and he deserves recognition for that
He can't do quads
Well said Ellis, I can't agree more💖
no he doesn't, shoma, yuzuru and nathan is another level..
yeah honestly the only reason he's not in medals is because he doesn't have quads. but his artistry and skating skills are on another level
Agreed, I love Nathan's skating, and he totally deserved the gold, but Jason deserved to have the highest PCS scores by a mile in both events!
Jason’s jumps are huge and beautiful, but I’m here for his spins! I absolutely love Jason’s camel variations 😍 What an incredible athlete and artist.
Artistry was a big thing in figure skating for a long time! It's nice to see it again! Jason Brown skates a lot like of skaters that I watched growing up! He even does a move that was introduced by Brian Boitano! Absolutely brilliant!
Not only is this a skating and choreographic masterpiece, but I bet any contemporary dancer would be amazed by this program. It’s a classic.

I love how excited they were that he made the final group! Nothing but love and respect for Jason, this was beautiful ❤️
One of the greatest men's SP of all time. Jason Brown is an incredible artist.
Love, love, love Jason's program. So exquisite, not a dull moment from start to finish.
This is a beautiful piece of art that I can not stop looking at.
Lyrical and poetic! Simply the best story teller on the ice!
JASON IS AMAZING!! And of another era! Just imagine if he had a a jump worth 20 points. Love you Nathan but Jason is a delight!!!
the speed of him! incredible.
no one skates like Jason - love him so much
Thats the most charismatic and energetic thing i´ve seen today
He’s like a cat, gliding around the ice - so fluid - wonderful & artistic!

Perfection! I’m so happy Jason chose Nina Simone- they’re both enchanting, unique, and unparalleled performers!!!
Amazing Artist!
A real artist, not just a jumper!
Best short program of the season
Indonesia is here, amazing, very talented athlete
Джейсон Браун уникальный фигурист с шикарной пластикой и высочайшим художественным вкусом! Смотреть его программы просто наслаждение.
He is the best ever since I watched his riverdance was amazing I love him

Artistry king! I wish artistry was more appreciated these days.
Pretty sure that this is the best program by Jason brown.
Whenever I am having a poor day, I watch this along with Michelle Kwan vids.
I love this program&his skating!
Thank you for uploading!
Sinnerman is popular program .
If i could have one wish from a genie, it would be for Jason Brown to pair with Satoko Miyahara in ice dance or pairs, absolute grace and beauty
I like this better than Nathan’s program!
This program is just spectacular. Such artistry and sense of music with perfect textbook jumps. Just pure art on ice.
they said take five and jason brown heard save lives and gave us sinnerman
Jason you are magnificent. A gift nurtured by passion!
It is so beautiful!! Thank you for posting this.
02:47 Possibly my favorite part. How is that even possible without falling on your backside? Amazing!
Love the music. A difficult program. You made it look easy. Bravo my hero! Bravo!!

My favourite SP performance in Beijing
The fact this got lower PCS than Nathan's SP is a crime 😤
