What was great about this short part of the season was that each candidate was a viable new character, nobody stood out as an obvious throwaway. Everyone had a personality and backstory that made them seem like real people and not just one-off characters in a TV series.

I guess I should've said that there were a good number of candidates that weren't just one-offs since I'm looking more at it and yeah there are some just plain background characters who don't even talk.

The horrifying thing here is she also realises that had she somehow not done it, House would have been disappointed in their lack of intelligence and probably stop considering them.
House isn’t that omniscient. He deduced Amber stole the keys after the fact. After assigning them to wash his car, he noticed his missing keys, and since only two of the candidates came back, Amber was the logical culprit of the remaining two. The look on Amber’s face was fear, she couldn’t decide if she should own up to taking the keys given it could result in her termination. He picked up on her reaction, so assured her that it wouldn’t matter to confirm his theory. The reason he doesn’t care is that he respects the initiative; House looks for a team member who takes risks and thinks outside the box. But it wasn’t planned. He wouldn’t assume a group of doctors has the know-how or the courage to defy his orders and pickpocket him. If he did, he wouldn’t have given them the task in the first place, since he has no reason to trust them with illegally driving his car.

I am from Jamaica too. But I didn't get any of that. I took a few tests and they put me in regular classes. I am half decent at math, so I was bumped up a grade level. I came here in high school btw. And now in medical school.

This ia my favorite arc in House. Very unique and there was a more definite progression between episodes. I wish this competition was the whole season as opposed to only the first half.
People say they prefer the original 3 but I still liked the team with number 13 and the harold and kumar guy and Foreman. Didn't really liked the team after that when Chase comes back.

They didn't just try to refill the open slots, but instead created three completly new characters (and gave Foreman a bit of an evolution). Which is a trap I think showmakers usually fall into when characters leave, they just try to fill the position 1to1, which rarely works

One thing that always gets me about season 4 is how good of a job they did making characters we all wanted to stick around, and they boot all but 3 (4 if you include Amber's ongoing presence) out the door! I'm always asking myself "What if Cole stayed instead of Taub?" Just imagine the Mormon jokes we would have heard XD
If he had truly been a Mormon, he would've refused most of House's orders. IIRC, he was fired because he proved that he didn't have any principles, while nagging about how principles are so great, aka a hypocrite.
