The part that gets me on this scene is that she calls him out on being "cruel", but he really wasn't. In fact, all he did was counter the student's loud statement that she may be making things up.
Telling someone bluntly they have a neurological problem and then walking out is pretty cruel. She has just enough brain power to realise that he is right and losing your memory is HORRIFYING. She then has just enough time to get the adrenaline and other stress chemicals dumped into her brain and then forget the reason.
House asked them those questions, because it's important for a doctor to notice everything about their patient, right? Not just relevant things, because it could all be relevant.
The "how much does she weigh and what color is her nose?" Maybe, but in this case it was also directly related (if she's too thin the Korsakoff's is caused by insufficient diet, if her nose is red it's due to excessive drinking).

Except this patient was not consciously doing the lie, it was rather a disorder. Confabulation is a disorder that generates a false memory without the intention of deceit - which is one of the symptoms of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. :)
