I bought the Harvey 25 cent Spirit comic book off the rack in 1965 and immediately became a fan of Will Eisner! I also have a large collection of Spirit sections from the 1940s, which also included Mr. Mystic by Bob Powell and Lady Luck by Klaus Nordling. I also have several volumes of the Spirit Archives, published by DC Comics. I also have a complete run of the Warren and Kitchen Sink Spirit comics. I was lucky enough to have met Mr. Eisner at the 2001 SDCC, and he told me about Alex Kotzky and his involvement with the Spirit strip. Kotzky later went on to draw the successful comic strip, Apartment 3-G.
Wow, pretty amazing meeting him. I wish I had purchased those Spirit Archives from DC, there were quite a few volumes but I read many of the Spirits in Black and white in the Kitchen Sink etc mags. There have been many different collections over the years, I think this one is probably my favourite though it does lack a lot of my favourite tales (perhaps there will be a volume 2 ?)
Excellent video! I started reading the Spirit from Warren Comics in December 1973 and been with Will ever since! Started getting to comics shops in 1975-76 and picked up early Kitchen Sink reprints! Eventually KS continued the Warren numbering! I’ve a huge book collection of Eisner books and met him in Toronto,Ontario Canada in June 2004 and got some stuff autographed! Very sincere talented man! 🎯🙏 When you were showing the artisan book at 4:45 mark of the video I saw one of my favorite scenes in the Spirit, Ellen had gotten roughed up and the Spirit whipped a pool ball and takes out a couple of guys! Lol! Amazing kinetic storytelling! Incredible !😎💎🙏
Yes, he was the master of the kinetic storytelling, I don't think there are many equivalents nowadays. His panels flowed with so much energy, timing and a simple look from a character could tell so much, all masterpieces. I wish I had kept all my Eisner related material, I had most of the reprints and they are mags I really regret selling off over the years. Still, this volume is a perfect one for me. I wonder if Will Eisner ever came to an event in the UK for signings ?? Never had the chance to meet him, great to be able to do that.
Thank you for the review. I will look for this edition. As a fan from Brazil this edition is expensive here, I needed to know if It´s something that worth every penny. Now I know .
One of the greatest, loved his work for ages and ages. I think I have read many of his Spirit stories as well as many of his superb graphic novels. Suspect I have probably hardly scratched the surface though, he did a lot
Probally the best know old master. IDW is doing great work with these artisan editions. You probally meant: "Bill Sienkiewicz's Mutants and Moon Knights and Assassins Artisan Edition" later on. and no worries, nobody can pronounce that name well :-) .
I have never been able to say his name, I am the worst, it was on the tip of my tongue. I truly hope they continue with the artist editions as well as artisans, I love each and everyone in their own way. Will be buying the Sienkiewicz one, it is on pre-order. Prefer them over the. artist ones, but I will probably get the Neal Adam's artist one
Lovely looking book, last time I read any Spirit it was issues of a reprint series. I've ordered The Spirit volume one by PS Artbooks from the latest Previews, should be released around November.
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I've plumbed for the standard hardback, nice slipcase though. Did you notice the other new books, Bulletman and the preMarvel wild west Ghost Rider, I couldn't resist. Have you ever bought any of the PS Artbooks facsimile comics?
I have a few of them, I think I have done some reviews of them or at least mentioned them such as the Absolute Best of Harvey Comics etc. I did have a number of the Ghost Rider issues though never an issue of Bullet man / girl
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Do you know ? Their is a knock off character in the 1940s called Midnight.. looks just like the Spirit but without the gloves. Their is a history on why Midnight existed..😁
I don't collect Spirit inserts, I have read many of the stories over years in the Spirit magazines, quarterly, etc. I have one Spirit insert in total, bought fairly recently from an Estate sale.

It is a pity that the edition costs so much more in some countries. It is a very good book as are many others in the series
You said humanity I always said it is about the human spirit.
Very true
Great looking book, beyond doubt Will Eisner was a master storyteller.

@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews yes agreed he turned out a massive amount of work and all of the highest quality.
Yes, even his early material was pretty good. I love a lot of his later work as well (and the Spirit etc)
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yes agreed its all a class act , I cant speak too highly of him.
Still wish I had kept all those issues of Spirit Kitchen Sink etc
