    6. On the list, for those who are running 3.5inch and up of lift. Driveshaft upgrade is also recommended for better clearance and drive train alignment, aftermarket driveshaft options are available out there.

    Casey thanks for mentioning larger brakes with 37's I did mine recently and honestly I wish it would have been the first thing I did. People don't realize the weight we add the height changes stopping angles and the tire rotations differences. I did the G2 it was cost effective and at 1hr garage install (I have access to a lift) but very easy. I asked a guy in the business 30 years why don't people do life saving Mods his answer is because you can not see them. Bravo for talking bout it!!!!!

    When is the comparison video coming out? Just wondering, because I’m trying to figure out what gears I’m going to run for 35/37inch and still get a little bit of mpgs and power out of it. Right now I’m on 33s with stock 3.21 and 5th is more like an overdrive and hardly ever get in to 6th without having to drop back down just at the sight of a hill.

  • @RedRockCrawlers
    @RedRockCrawlers 5 років тому +2

    Some good advice here. Even with a Dana 44 up front you want to be careful running 37's and as stated in the video you would want to add some strength to the axle with C gussets and possibly a truss. another thing to consider is the actual tire itself, The BFG tires run small so you may be able to get away with less running BFG's vs something like Maxxis or Nitto that are a true to size tire. Keep wheeling!

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому +1

      Thanks! - There is also a big difference in weight between tires. Toyos run a lot heavier then Procomps. The KM2's are in the middle that I run. When on the Jeep and under weight they are 35.5inchs at 28psi (37x12 tires). I am looking at going to a 38inch tire for my next set but am worried I won't be allowed into Jeep Jamboree even though they measure 36.5inch with a 38iinch tire label.

    • @RedRockCrawlers
      @RedRockCrawlers 5 років тому

      @@Casey250 Hmm that could be a problem. I've thought about going to 38's myself. What axle shafts are you running up front? I think with all the other upgrades that might be the ultimate breaking point.

      All builds are fun, I eventually want to branch out beyond just Jeeps. I think the greatest barrier to the Gladiator is not knowing the price, especially what it will land at here in Canada. I have a good idea where it will be. I think if I build a Gladiator it won't be as extreme, and i'd like to have it for road trips to various Jeep events I am planning. 2020 i'd like to attend as many as I can, and long trips in my JK are very tiring at highwayspeeds because it... just doesn't like the highway a ton lol.

      Casey_250 I have built a few trucks, lots of diesel performance stuff. Back in the day I built an 86 Datsun 4x4 that was a wonderful off road truck I took to Crows Nest Pass a lot and did serious wheeling with...Then an 89 that I did a mild build on and still wheeled it a fair amount...after that it was all about big street hp and I was also bitten hard by the diesel bug! I still focus on diesel but I’m really looking forward to making a nice off road adventure truck with this Jeep.
      Whether it’s a Jeep or not, I’ll still follow your channel and see what you do next...I’m a gear head so I know I’ll enjoy it lol

    Great advice Casey. I have 35s and still planning to go with the big brakes. What was the cost? Do you think using your own calipers was a good decision vs changing the whole set up?

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому +1

      Price is always tough for me to approx, US pricing is always lower then Canadian. I think it was around $900 or $1000cdn. As for calipers, I reused my oem ones with the Dynatrac kit. My Jeep as a lot of miles on it, so I replaced all the calipers at the same time as I had 2 seized ones. If your calipers are fresh then there is no need. The Dynatrac kit supplies pads as well, but they are oem sized (different material) so if you ever need pads in the future you don't HAVE to go back to Dynatrac.

    Hello Casey, I am KC! Dude, can you help me? 4 questions for you....I have a 2015 JK, I acquired an AEV Dual Sport RS , 3.5" lift with Bilstien 5600s. It rides hard as hell. I also need this to get to work. It is on 35's right now. (with 21" rims) only leaving me 6" of rubber. 1. Will new rim/tires alone solve my problems? Do I need to get new coils? Not sure if I love the Bielstiens or not. How long do shocks last? 2. Thinking about FManx bead lock rims with 38" Patagonia tires. Will 3-1/2" lift clear those tires? 3. I have 4.1 ratio and want to buy the dyna axel with 5.1 assembled. Do I need to do anything to my rear axel? 4. I dont see anyone talking about mufflers. where do they go to avoid the crunch? Last... I want the hydraulic assist steering. thanks to you...Love that. thanks

    • @nismofan740
      @nismofan740 3 роки тому

      Not Casey of course but have built many jeeps...
      1. May not solve all the problems but will definitely make a huge difference!
      2. Yes with flat fenders a little bit of trimming and correct bump stops
      3. Any time you regear one axle you need to regear the other with matching ratios. 5:13 is a good ratio 👌
      4. If you have aftermarket drive shafts you will not (should not hit the exhaust)
      Also they have alot of high clearance muffler options.

    I’ve got a question for you... I’ve got a JKU ( non-rubicon) being built as I write this. It is on big Spyderlocks and 37” X-MTs. We decided to truss and c-gusset, new Adams shafts, lockers, sleeves and regear with 4:88. The shop owner says that there isn’t a need for new axle shafts as the built D-30s hold up well. I hear you on the brakes and will need to address it. What do you think my weak spots in the driveline are? Some have said axle shafts. I’d agree because that’s the only thing not replaced.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 роки тому +2

      Ring and pinion on a d30 is absolutely the weakest point when running larger tires. There is no upgrade to do other then upgrade the entire axle.

    Are you running a 3.5inch long arm lift? And if so did you see and increased performance off road over a short/mid arm? And lastly if you are running a short/mid arm does the Jeep wonder on the highway a lot more over stock?

    • @Casey250

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому +1

      Honestly the ring and pinion is the weak point. I see no point in upgrading to a housing with the small ring and pinion. Either go up to a 44, or install some C gussets on your existing housing to protect it and take it easy to try to not brake your 30 and just accept that that may be something that you have to upgrade when it fails.

      @@Casey250 I'm aware of this problem, if it breaks its going to be upgraded to aftermarket stuff anyway, it would be a cheap upgrade before something is broken. • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому +2

      Ive never heard anything about the housing being the problem. The dana 30 and 44 housings are very very similar, its the ring and pinion size that is the issue. Good luck with your build, always happy yo help if you have any questions!

      I originally built my Rubicon and stuffed 37's on it... then broke the axle, and then it all started to escalate. My Jeep was build over about 3yrs as I either broke stuff or wanted better performing parts such as bigger brakes. Top 5 things for first mods or 37's? If 37s, this video covers it, if first mods? I should make a video about that!! It would be lift, tires & beadlocks, winch, gps, tire carrier, tuner, swap bar disconnects. I need to think a little more but that sounds about right.

      While I am in the #savethemanual club and my Vette is manual, I prefer an auto for offroading. Many times I have been able to climb steep inclines that require a run, such as sand dunes, where my auto would allow me to drop down in gears with out loosing momentum, and the manual Jeeps could not. As well, it is much much easier for me to vlog and run a camera with an auto. There isn't anything wrong with picking a manual either but that just has been my experience and my preference is an auto.

    Would running 35s require this much extra? Is the difference from 35 to 37s that significant?

      It can be. You can get away with less miss for 35s I think.

      @Casey250  5 років тому

      I find they don't make much difference. At slow speeds the branches don't hit the window hard enough to break it (or haven't in 3 years of wheeling). I did put some special film (Trail Scales material in clear) on my A pillars to protect them from getting dinged up. I also really don't like the look of limb risers lol.

    Just FYI, your brake upgrade did nothing for you. Changing out the rotors only, means the only thing you've done is provide better heat dissipation. So if "heat" is your issue (unlikely), then the upgrade is fine. However stopping power is provided by friction and the only way to create more friction is to either: Replace your pads with pads that have more bite OR increase the "surface area" and user bigger calipers & pads.
    The larger rotors are great for better heat mgt, but should have been coupled with upgraded calipers. Also, moving to calipers with more pistons could apply better pressure more evenly across the pad (assuming the upgrade didn't upset your brake bias).
    So just FYI, probably not a good idea to champion larger rotors only as providing better stopping power, they don't.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment but that is not correct. The stopping distance is absolutely improved and Wayalife did a video measuring it. Larger rotors and moving the calipers out is the same physics as using a longer beaker bar to crack a nut. The Dynatrac ProGrips brakes are substantially better then stock. I can't speak for other kits but anyone that moves the caliper out with a larger roter would improve braking. If the caliper wasn't moved out then I agree there would not be a change, but you also wouldn't be able to add a larger diameter rotor.

      @@Casey250 You are correct, that is my fault, i forgot about the moved caliper. With the larger caliper, rotational speed is decreased on the outer diameter and so the pad "should" be able to be more effective.

    Actually I’m gonna have to disagree with you about the truss, local off-road shops around me have quoted about $500 out the door for an evo truss and c gussets. That’s a lot cheaper than new housing

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому +3

      Sounds like a great deal. Make sure the shop is spending the time to complete the welding process properly with out bending the housing. The only absolute way ive researched is to disassemble the housing and run a thick rod from end to end. Ive spoken to several shops and the only ones thst guarentee no bending, want it disassembled. There are always cheaper and easier ways to do things but they carry certain risks. Likewise, completing my list of things I feel are important is regearing as well. I just don't see the point of dismantling the axle, to pay a bunch of money in welding and labor versus putting that towards a better housing and reassembly. These are my opinions though, there is always different ways and opinions. A truss can also create clearance issues with your engines oil pan so make sure your bump stops are set to accommodate for that so you don't end up with an oil leak. At the end of the day, your still running a stock housing that you've spent a bunch of money on, has new disadvantages, and has less strength of an after market housing.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  5 років тому

      Also, your stock dana 44 housing will have a resale value, further reducing the cost of your after market solution.
