Say what you will about the story-line for Atamatron (I still like it but wouldn't argue for it to anyone who doesn't) the ability to mix and match robots and adding crazy weapons to them is amazingly fun and creative. probably some of the most fun I had in fallout 4 testing out my new mecanations
I liked automatron too. To be fair I'm not particularly critical of the fallout series because I love it's world so I felt that the construction DLCs were the weakest for FO4 since they didn't add too much too the game.
i liked it too but its overpriced... it wouldve been nice if it was a scavenger group(s) vs rust devils vs mechanist kind of thing with proper factions and not like bunch of random hostile bots and a new raider variant they couldve really added a rust devil base and a scavenger base, do something better with the mechanist's lair instead we get Ada and like do these 6 quests where you go to a location and just kill bots bc evil rogue bots.
Great video! The Think Tanks remind me of the Vidbots from the '97 game Obsidian - coincidentally also the home of the original giant metal spider robot that stole my heart.
5:10 'Obvious inspiration' honestly things always reminded me of Gizmoduck from the old school DuckTales. Everything from the mono wheel, to the screen on the chest. I'm probably just grasping at straws but they're similar enough looking that someone actually made a Gizmoduck mod for the securitrons in New Vegas.
9:15 Not to mention their size, they looked goddamn huge in Fallout 1 and 2. 16:57 Those look cool. Specifically the top left and bottom ones. They make me think of a cross between Battletech mechs and Transformers.
I've said it before, but I'll say again, Gen3 Synths aren't robots. The synth component, a mind control and neural interface implant, is the only inorganic part of them. The only ones who blur the lines are Institute scientists. Anyone who has seen Johnny Mnemonic would be unlikely to call Keanu Reeves's character a robot. Kaiden Alenko from Mass Effect, with his Biotic implants and enhanced abilities, wouldn't be considered a robot. There's effectively no difference.
The fact that I've never found your channel before is annoying, I've always been into fallout lore and love to learn more and more whenever I can, I'm definitely subbing, keep up the good work bud👍
I forgot about Liberators! I think they were a pretty neat addition to the lore, I can see some character out there reprogramming one to be a little robot companion
Like 3 years late, but quick answer for the Securitron rotating would be reaction wheels or something similar, much like how space vehicles rotate themselves.
I played Fallout 4 before any other game and was not prepared for what I ran into. I stumbled across a farm settlement and then found this building nearby. When I started exploring it though I managed to activate the sentry bot outside. That attracted the attention of the Gunners nearby at an abandoned vault. Next thing I know, I'm pinned down inside the building with a sentry bot an an assaultron trying to kill me.
Sounds like the Pittsburgh strike lore must be based on the actual Homestead Strike of 1892 near Pittsburgh, where striking workers were gunned down by Pinkertons hired by Carnegie Steel
No idea why youtube suggested me this video, anyway, a possible solution for the securitron to turn while standing still might be just a mechanical gyroscope with 2 heavy flywheels. One rotating clockwise and the other counterclockwise. Much like a twin rotor helicopter. Nice video!
Get a unicycle, if you can ride one that is 🤣and try turn on the spot, it actually turns very easily due to the sharp turning circle if that's the correct term lol. The unicycle will tend to turn on the spot.
I think the actual way it could rotae is the one big wheel is actually two wheels that can rotate independently. I dont know my engineering terms so excuse any misuse of terminology. I think the big wheel is two wheels with something like a washer or disc between them. This means when it needs to turn, it could rotate only one of the wheels, or if it needed to turn quickly it would turn the wheels in opposite directions.
ok so the Securitron inspiration DON'T look at robots Look at the Disney Classic cartoons Ducktales & Dark Wing Duck specifically at the Armored super Hero Gismo-Duck made by Giro{Jah-eye-Roe} Gearloose This armor LIKE the Securitron features Features Flex-tube Arms, (Sleaves) A Mono Wheel system, & Large Decorative shoulders WITH a a TV monitor in the chest & a Simple Keyboard on one arm.
Sentry bots crack me up because you can kill them with any gun in 1 shot if you use VATS on their fusion core. The ultimate killing machine owned by a bb gun.
Lore or just for gameplay there are more robots and everytime they forget to mention Operation Anchorage's Spidermines and Chimera Tank. The Think Tank special robots where covered but no mention of the Zax computer AIs from fallout 1, 2 and 3 with it's most well known member being John Henry Eden and to a certain extent the AI of Broken Steel's M.A.R.G.o.T. Would also been a nice touch to cover for at least 30 seconds that in addition to ED-E being a unique armored eyebot and companion in FNV, that a special Mr.Gutsy is an obtainable companion in FO3 in Sergeant RL-3 as well a Synth type is a potential companion in FO4 in the form of Nick Valentine. It was also skipped mentioning Point Lookouts's unique Non moving Robobrain; Professor Calvert. And while aliens are a well known lore in the FO universe it would have been nice to talk about the Attack Drones and Maintenance Drones from Mothership Zeta. I may be missing more as i dont have all dlcs and games but just letting these notes. I hope its a nice read.
I honestly don't get why people argue about synths being sapient. We see from the gen one model that even they had human brains. Meaning the entire "synth" line is an evolution of robo-brains. Thus they have an actual human brain controlling them. They have the one part of the human body that most people would agree makes them "human." Remember, that was in a gen 1 synth. The fact that gen 3 are smarter suggests they keep the human brain in better shape so it can process better. So it seems odd to question if the thing made from actual human DNA and with a human brain controlling it can feel human emotions. In fact, the gen 3 synths seem to only have one non-organic component, a control unit in their brain that looks a lot like they gave Kellogg.
@@vizzy61 I went into the game and that is just head armor and a blurry image. Sorry my bad, though they do seem to be made from biological parts and they needed human DNA to make them, so I do think they got the idea to use human neurons as the main processor from the robo-brain. Though at this point they don't need criminals and can make a brain on the spot.
11:38 A similar looking robot can actually be found in another scifi game series although i don't know if it's necessarily inspiration, the enemy known as a Tick from titanfall 2. they look strikingly similar imo
The securitrons from new Vegas, always kind of reminded me of Kain from robocop 2. He had his digital face that was meant to represent himself as he had been as well as illustrating his mood and personality. The securitrons generally kept the same face but would change under certain circumstances. Liberty Prime like optimus prime ^_^ Skynet from fallout 2, I believe it was. Machine that could be given a monkey body as well as being a terminator reference. Considering that Bethesda made a number of terminator games on pc back in the day, it was almost fitting that they would get their hands on fallout as well. You should have also mentioned the walking eyes from New Vegas's Big Mountain. They didn't work, but they were there in that flooding section. They were a Venture Brothers reference which was pretty cool. Could have been an amusing counterpoint to the floating eye bots. There was also the miniature securitron from Big Mountain that craved Coffee cups. F.I.S.T.O also deserved an honourable mention. Of all the violent things protectrons were capable of doing to hurt a guy or gal, breaking their hearts stands out.
I will say that the liberators in both their operation and deployment (As well as a little of their design) remind me of the Buzz droids from star wars small infiltrators that can tear shit apart with blades? While I'm sure theyd be more effective in a pressurized atmosphere, they're still a fun idea for quick diversion Also just imagine being in a US submarine, triggering a sea mine and surviving, only to hear cutting on the outside of your hull
The only reference for mono-wheel robots that springs to mind is "Ro-Jaws" from the 2000 AD comic, however the wide shoulder design with screen mounted in the chest area would suggest some inspiration from the Martians of the War of the Worlds movie [1953]
Note the robobrains from i think Fallout 1 and 2 were able to wield weapons mainly assault rifles or shotguns, i don't know i've i encountered the later games that had that ability.
3:42 which is ironic considering that 1950's car fins are in inspired by a ww2 twin boom interceptor (or as they were called pursuit aircraft) designed in the late 30's and used after the war as racing aircraft
I JUST REALIZED HOW SECURITRONS TURN Look at the wheel Notice there is actually two separate treads on it Perhaps it is two wheels put directly next to each other
I also didn't know the scientists in the Think Tank were called think tanks! I always thought they were inspired by the "interrogation" (debriefing?) scenes in 12 Monkeys, where Bruce Willis is harangued by the floating ball of CRT screens.
I really want a protectron companion with its own personality in one of these games. Maybe he was a tour guide and spouts fun little trivia about random spots you visit. Slap a hat and a unique voice on him, and bam.
I think the Mr Handy is the best Robot that Bethesda redesigned. The original looks pretty silly & doesn't have a non-destroyed version (which the Enclave likely should have) but I'd imagine their is a few models. The older or maybe newer one we saw in the 1st 2 games which has 6 arms & the newer or older model from Fallout 3 onward which has 3 arms 1 flame, 1 saw & a grabby arm with the alternate model used by the US Army being the Mr Gusty which has more weapons like a plasma rifle instead of a saw. I am unsure of which came 1st as you'd just have to guess which would be more common an older model or a newer one. I feel like older & thus the few we see in the 1st 2 games are likely an improved version with more arms which maybe could be switched out or maybe they are more like 2 different models that where on the go at the same time. The more hands one being a more utility robot & the 3 hand one being the one that is more a robot servant with a personality.
I know the Mechanist's and Rust Devils' robots in the Automatron DLC are just cobbled together from the other robot types, but I'd have liked to have at least a mention of them, especially since they introduce numerous new weapon upgrades and custom armor plating
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this but what about the false sheepsquatch from 76. A modified Assultron but invisible until you activate pylons that use you as a shock absorber. Durable and fast. All while getting bombed by eye bombs and attacked by gutsys and protectrons. One of the hardest overworld boss fights
14:20 "for reasons that aren't entirely clear" uh slavery they made them to do labor for them thats the reason they made synths i thought that was fairly obvious y'know based off of the existence of the railroad
the 3rd gen synths are more mirrion to screamers from the sci fy movie of the same as well as replicants however - fallout 4 goes through the near entirety of the game explaining gen 3 synths are near 1-1 with hunabs physically this includes carry and conception . the specific was mentioned but not explored - admittedly some people may blow gaskets over the concept .
The Pitt mill bots were slightly more complicated than that, someone broke one, and then self defense protocals got installed on them. Then someone tried to break another and the protectrons killed them all. The company couldn't quite get away with just *ordering* the protectrons to kill everyone, but they relied on the workers trying sabotage to cause the Protectrons to kill "in self defense."

To be fair I'm not particularly critical of the fallout series because I love it's world so I felt that the construction DLCs were the weakest for FO4 since they didn't add too much too the game.
i liked it too but its overpriced...
it wouldve been nice if it was a scavenger group(s) vs rust devils vs mechanist kind of thing with proper factions and not like bunch of random hostile bots and a new raider variant
they couldve really added a rust devil base and a scavenger base, do something better with the mechanist's lair
instead we get Ada and like do these 6 quests where you go to a location and just kill bots bc evil rogue bots.
You missed the robo scorpions
Yeah!!! Someone else notice d that!
Ligma balls
Great video! The Think Tanks remind me of the Vidbots from the '97 game Obsidian - coincidentally also the home of the original giant metal spider robot that stole my heart.
Nice! There is definitely a resemblance there, I was not aware of this game :)
I never realised the actual robots was called think tanks, I thought it only pertained to the building itself, The think Tank
5:10
'Obvious inspiration' honestly things always reminded me of Gizmoduck from the old school DuckTales. Everything from the mono wheel, to the screen on the chest.
I'm probably just grasping at straws but they're similar enough looking that someone actually made a Gizmoduck mod for the securitrons in New Vegas.
Assaultrons are my favorite: Deadly, Protective, and very hot.
Mr Gutsy is my second favorite.
I'd have to say that Liberty prime is the best for me
@@cool9229 only lesser people use a giant robot, where is the challenge in that
Handys and Gutsys hands down.
Protectron and assaultrons,
Assaultrons for the same reasons
@@TonyBustaroni yeah, but have you SEEN THE BUST ON 'EM? NO WOMAN CAN COMPARE
Nice to see you post videos again. It really made my day
Thanks! I’m glad to be back at it. If you have any suggestions for content you would like to see, leave me a comment!
9:15 Not to mention their size, they looked goddamn huge in Fallout 1 and 2.
16:57 Those look cool. Specifically the top left and bottom ones. They make me think of a cross between Battletech mechs and Transformers.
In another Robocop reference, with Wild Wasteland active, when engaging in combat they'll say "Dead or alive, you're coming with me!"
5:08 Well we got "GizmoDuck" from "Darkwing Duck". There you have your inspiration. If you have a time machine!!! lol
I know he's talking about the different types in general, but I'm a little upset he didn't mention the only mini Securatron in the series, Muggy.
Miss Obama it's an honor!
Keep making these videos fallout lore vids are lowkey blowing up and well deserved
Thanks, I’m glad you’re enjoying them
The style of all these enemies looks just amazing. Always nice to encounter robots in the Fallout universe.
i love the robobrain design in the top right of the concept art
I forgot about Liberators! I think they were a pretty neat addition to the lore, I can see some character out there reprogramming one to be a little robot companion
15:55 is the healthbar in the background full or are they at like 1-2 hp with massive rads?
( Fully Integrated Security Technotronic Officer) AKA “FISTO”
Pump up the jam.
Way late but 11:55 my first thought was inspiration from GitS. Less legs but pretty similar
Sounds like the Pittsburgh strike lore must be based on the actual Homestead Strike of 1892 near Pittsburgh, where striking workers were gunned down by Pinkertons hired by Carnegie Steel
Hugh. Another fellow fan of Red Alert 2! Cheers mate, we dwindle year by year. Only a remaster like C&C 1 can bring back our numbers.
probably the best fallout 4 lore channel around. good video!!
I just recently did the Fisto quest in new Vegas, and let me just say I laughed for about half an hour
Do the assaultorns have a pleasure model?
Omg you're right, I totally forgot about that from ducktales
That was the first thing that came to mind when I played new vegas many years back.
never heard of the Mr Torturer before.......must have been in something i haven't played.
Sentry bots crack me up because you can kill them with any gun in 1 shot if you use VATS on their fusion core. The ultimate killing machine owned by a bb gun.
i love these videos so much , watching footage of someone absolutely suffer with an expert lock adds to it imo LOL
The ASSaulttron looked good with some hip welding and a french maid outfit
Really love how intimidating the sentry bots sound in New Vegas.
Securatron was inspired by Darkwing duck Gizmoduck basically the power suit without the duck before your time, but I recognized it instantly
I'd say for the Securatrons inspiration you could look at Duck Tales' Gizmo Duck who has the same unicycle type of locomotion.
Wait, synths have human brains? Could you provide an image?
@@vizzy61
14:04
Unless I've gone blind, I didn't see a single human brain
@@vizzy61 The head looks like it has a human brain with a seethrough glass cranium.
Liberty Prime like optimus prime ^_^
Skynet from fallout 2, I believe it was.
Does something count if it only appears in Wild Wasteland?
@@davidhong1934 canonical, no. It was always sort of a just for fun bit in the game but they are still worth honorable mentions.
Some of those concept Liberty Primes are so cool. That one with a round shield with what look like AA guns poking through it is my favorite.
I just gonna come out with it: Where all da sexbots at in the Fallout universe?!
I will say that the liberators in both their operation and deployment (As well as a little of their design) remind me of the Buzz droids from star wars
small infiltrators that can tear shit apart with blades? While I'm sure theyd be more effective in a pressurized atmosphere, they're still a fun idea for quick diversion
Also just imagine being in a US submarine, triggering a sea mine and surviving, only to hear cutting on the outside of your hull
I liked this video so much, I watched it back to back.
I always saw synths as terminators, especially coursers
11:57 no the robot you dont want to come across in a dark alley is Mr. Fisto
The only reference for mono-wheel robots that springs to mind is "Ro-Jaws" from the 2000 AD comic, however the wide shoulder design with screen mounted in the chest area would suggest some inspiration from the Martians of the War of the Worlds movie [1953]
I like to think someone ordered a Mrs.nanny but it got lost in the mail so they got a mr.gutsy and a mrs.nanny was somewhere on a battle field
11:50 I don't know about you but personally Fisto is the last robot I'd wanna run into in a dark alley.
12:20 and I suspect also pieces and bits are taken from a ww2 or probably post Sherman tank (mostly with the Fallout 4 Sentry bot)
7:20 Assualtrons always reminded me of Ultron from the Marvel universe.
I JUST REALIZED HOW SECURITRONS TURN
Look at the wheel
Notice there is actually two separate treads on it
Perhaps it is two wheels put directly next to each other
Watch Duck tales, that's where some of the design inspiration comes from for Securatrons.
Awesome, Red Alert 2 was a personal favorite as well and I hated when someone would blitz a horde of terror drones.
Rosey the robot, from The Jetson's, might have provided some inspiration
From what little ive seen of the liberators, they bear resemblance in many ways to the guardians from breath of the wild.
seriously sick power armor collection dude
and the eyebot wasn't meant for combat, except ED-E the badass he is
To be fair, it's fun to pick them up and flop them around. And sometimes turn them to giblets.
Humanoids? Behemoths? Security robots? Pacification robots? Anything from Fallout Tactics?
Sounds like a great part 2 video...
I wonder if the likes of Skynet, ZAX computers, and that Enclave controler at White Springs count as robots, I suppose they are more AI
@@Rad_King you also forgot the minebots from operation anchorage
I think this calls for a part 2
Brother, your Castle is giving me serious anxiety lol
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this but what about the false sheepsquatch from 76. A modified Assultron but invisible until you activate pylons that use you as a shock absorber. Durable and fast. All while getting bombed by eye bombs and attacked by gutsys and protectrons. One of the hardest overworld boss fights
14:20 "for reasons that aren't entirely clear" uh slavery they made them to do labor for them thats the reason they made synths i thought that was fairly obvious y'know based off of the existence of the railroad
"A robot you wouldn't want to meet in a dark ally..."
Fisto. (Shudders)
the 3rd gen synths are more mirrion to screamers from the sci fy movie of the same as well as replicants however - fallout 4 goes through the near entirety of the game explaining gen 3 synths are near 1-1 with hunabs physically this includes carry and conception . the specific was mentioned but not explored - admittedly some people may blow gaskets over the concept .
Could you perhaps make a video about space travel in the fallout universe?
Cool idea, I’ll look into that!
