    ng mui (female) is the creator of wing chun, wing chun is the only martial art created by a woman. from ng mui it was passed down to yim-wing chun and yim's husband named it after her as "wing chun"....but leung jan was indeed a early master and the matser of yip man but he did not create wing chun ng mui did. keep reading for all and correct information.
    wing chun grew from the snake and the crane animal kung fu (it is said animal kung fu are some of the first, white crane is said to be 4,000 years old very old indeed)
    THE HISTORY OF WING CHUN
    one of the 5 elders a nun from shaolin temple in southern china ng mui had escaped when the qing dynasty burnt down the temple as she ran, the story is told as this she came across a snake fighting a crane and from there this style was created it is a self-defense style (arguably the best) passed down to yim-wing chun at the age of only 15 so she could fight off a war-lord so clearly she was not as strong as him but wing chun does not relay on ones strength but rather on body machines, angels, pressure points and simply physics completely natural and effective by anyone the quote on my youtube channel art is " there are really only two requirements for wing chun training, one is that you do it the other is that you continue to do it." it is a direct style it has no pointless fancy movements for show, no cockiness but i believe that makes it even more wonderful it is martial arts at its purest, in my opinion it is the greatest martial art (along with others of the same level) it was created 400 years ago.
    the lineage story of wing chun - later ng mui imparted the skills to a young girl the girls name was yim-wing chun).. this style favours short arm bridge narrow stance and stresses speed and redirecting external forces emphasizing on ones response makes it flexible and practical wing-chun mastered the skill and left before ng died, she stated that the skill should be only used against qing dynasty decades later the secret of this martial art was spread to the opera actors in foshan, the red junk opera was the base for anti manchu activites the actors utilized the logs on the ship and made wooden dummies out of them for trainings they also used streering poles as weapons yet only a small group of people knew the secret of wing chun untill one day the actors passed their skills to a young man he eventually became a martial arts master in late qing leung jan, he organized the techniques of the art and psassed it to poeple outside the red junk opera gradually wing chun was known by more people, his grand-diciple yip man become the grandmaster and had numerous students he took wing chun to a great exposure and made it well known all over the world.
    bruce lee then took wing chun to the west and now it is one of the biggest martial arts today (outside of tournament fighting) bruce lee says "we owe our knowledge to wing chun but we will go beyond" bruce lee's top student Dan Inosanto says "without yip man and bruce lee we wouldn't have achieved what we have today"
    ng mui the creator of wing chun (it was nameless at this time, created 1600's)
    yip-wing chun was credited for creating "chi sao - sticking hands" (co-owner)
    bruce lee created "jeet kund do" (top student of yip man from 1953-1959)
    yip man credited for modernizing wing chun (1910-1972)
    leung jan credited for taking wing chun outside of the red junk opera (mid 1800's)
    everyone from ng mui to bruce lee should be thanked, understood, respected and remembered.
    "absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own." - bruce lee
    "obey the techniques until they are no longer useful, then you are left with the concepts behind them, at that point you are able to develop your own techniques from the understanding of the concepts and these newly found techniques and concepts to be adapted to overcome any opponent" - me
    (my inspiration for this quote came from bruce lee that you must learn the concepts behind the techniques)
    thank you and great video! :)

    Yes my friend, it's true. Grandmaster Yip Man was brought up in a time when China was very isolationist. The Chinese didn't want their enemies to learn their sacred secrets. Yip Man warned Lee not to teach westerners but Lee directly disobeyed him & later begged to learn the rest of the system. Yip Man refused, therefore Lee "created his own system" (based mainly on Wing Chun). But after Yip Man passed away many of his students realized that times were changing & began teaching around the world.

    I practice Shaolin Eagle Claw for 6 months now. I'm a rookie. I was a BL's fanboy before I started Kung Fu. After that, I do respect many things that Bruce has done, but I do believe that he's wrong about so many other things too. He created a new martial art. He was writer, director, actor, philosopher, and he was able to reach what I particularly consider "the perfect body". I'm not saying that he was WC God, but he should be mentioned because he is the most famous WC student, and that's all.

    This is but one of the stories of Wing Chun. Another, and likely more accurate story of wing Chun is that the five elders of the temple, including Ng Mui were secretly getting together, forming a martial art to be taught to other warriors fighting against the enemy, the very ones that attacked and burned own the temple. The five elders combined the best of Shaolin, at that time, into this one Martial Art, later to be called Wing Chun. One of the main reasons that Wing Chun is focused on simple combat much more than usual.

    • @jstnfshr7891

      The6thRonin Yes that's why this is called the "Story", not "History" of Wing Chun. It is understood that elements of the story are fictitious.

    Not specificaly about WC itself. But when it comes down to WC history, I believe he should be mentioned just for taking WC lessons and turning it to something else. Appart from that, is very rare to kneow someone who understand enough about WC to talk about it without argueing. Thank you for bein civilized.

    I wished Women warriors made more styles. A woman created Wing chung by watching a crane fight a snake. But yet men still try to discredit her by saying its not true. Why can't men accept that it was a woman?

    • @drewby613
      @drewby613 8 років тому +1

      I think among those who accept the traditional version of events there is no problem among men accepting that it was invented by a woman, and first taught to a woman, and named after that woman. I just watched another documentary, narrated by a woman, btw, who pitched the traditional stories on ash-heap, with the swiftness of a college philosophy student dispensing with the millennia of the entire history of religion in one semester. So it's not a man thing, it's a tradition thing. Some people view tradition like so many balloons just waiting to be popped. They don't have the wisdom to realize that people only a few decades old casting off millennia old traditions is like an ambulance driver opening up a hospital and making himself chief surgeon.

    I don't get it with the fox story. How did a fox inspire her to add snake style to wing chun? Did the fox fight like a snake?

    • @jstnfshr
      @jstnfshr  7 років тому

      Good question! Some of the stories talk about a crane vs snake, others show a fox. The illustration I found showed Ng Mui watching a crane vs fox. Yet the yin & yang pictures show that the system consists of crane & snake elements. I guess Ng Mui saw the crane vs fox and added snake movements because she already knew snake style Kung Fu and thought the techniques would complement the system. These stories are based in legend so it's difficult to know exactly what happened. Different "animal style" systems of Kung Fu existed before the creation of Wing Chun. Techniques from these previous systems were incorporated based on effectiveness to create what has become more of a "human style" system of Kung Fu. Instead of mimicking animal movements we now utilize human structural mechanics to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

I also appreciate the show of respectful dialogue here (carlosferraduarte, milanac1022, etc), which seems to be lacking in the younger generations of martial artists, or at least in some of these keyboard fighters. The philosophy and the martial art should be aspects of one and the same: a better you.

    The actual kuen to (forms) known as Siu Nim Tau. Chum Kiu, and Biu Jee (much less Saam Bai Fut and other lesser known forms) came into known existence and was first recorded by Leung Jan. It has been theorized that before that the system was actually a set of "san sau" loose hands techniques. The forms found in the Mook Yan Jong, Bart Jam Do, and Luk Dim Boon Kwun all were added somewhere between the origin and Leung Jan's time. The actual creator of the forms can't be respectively traced.

    My point exactly about the dead celeb and film star!
    A history of WC does not include mention of any of its students, but rather its lineage heads. These are the only relevant people with whom we have to do.

  • @jstnfshr
    @jstnfshr  12 років тому

    @combatives Yes I've read Benny Meng and Garrett Gee's book, "Mastering Kung Fu" and there's a very in depth history in it. But with all these new origin stories going around, I found no complete rendition of "the Story of Wing Chun"; the oral tradition must be told and illustrated, especially for newcomers to the system.

    My friend, Bruce Lee was not the first person to invent mixed fighting systems. Wing Chun itself was invented from combining moves from different systems. Also didn't say Lee said JKD was more "effective", he said it was more "efficient". I have it in Lee's own writing if you don't believe me. Lee never learned the entirety of WC, therefore and conclusions about WC that he made were misinformed. How can a guy improve something he never finished learning? The highest levels of WC are more fluent.

    Bruce learned Wing Chun. He was the first martial artist movie star known in America. He's famous and he learned from Yip Man. So, the Wing Chun "family tree" extends to Bruce Lee. I agree that Bruce is seen as a traitor by the old school martial artists. But if he was so hated, he wouldn't have a statue in his honor in Hong Kong, and he wouldn't be mentioned in 2 of 3 Yip Man movies... Besides, he did what he felt it was right, and thanks to him, it's no longer forbidden. We can learn it too.

  • @carlosferrazduarte
    @carlosferrazduarte 12 років тому

    Buzz, I don't normally do this kind of comments but... titles and graduations don't take you anywhere in life if you don't learn the most important thing that is the philosophy of it. Respect others , be a better person, have a open mind about other styles etc . If you trained so many years how come you are not humble. By righting your poor comment you are disrespecting the image of your Master. I hope that you can see your mistake aiming to be a more healthier practitioner.

    The reason for the obscurity and secrecy of the actual founders were based on the Jing-Mo tradition as revealing the actual founders and disciples would have been dangerous to them as it could have been used against them if the Manchus had gained such Intel.

    no, it's right, pankration was the first! :) as i said i don't know if... maybe he's conclusion about win chun is a mistake but he was a great martial artist! don't you think? some of his writing make sense in martial art. I don't know if his purpose was to improve WC but his style is effective! to clarify thing, i'am a WC practitioner, i like my style (and your video!) but i like also sh(p)aring with other style and JKD friend learn to me a lot off thing !!!

    Why WOULD he 'go on and talk about Bruce Lee's life?'
    Bruce Lee was a celeb. He was NOT a Wing Chun practitioner.
    He had an amount of basic exposure, but after he became a film star he returned to HK & tried to bribe Yip Man with a nice apartment on the island if Yip would teach him the 3rd form. Yip was offended, refused the 'offer,' and Bruce is now known as a kind of apostate in the Wing Chun community.
    No serious discussion of Wing Chun includes Bruce Lee.
