Kali, kumu and munu for steaming. Weke ula, moana, nightmare weke(obake) and white weke for frying. Weke nono for baking because the meat is a little drier than other goats. Only tasted the obake and white sashimi style and the obake is better because its more oily than the white. You'll notice the obake flesh is opaque as opposed to the basic white weke. However, white weke is good for making poke but both are good for drying as well. As far as soup goes mostly the white is made.
Went on vacation n Maui back in 1996. Saw what at the time the most beautiful fish I had ever seen. I told the owner of Maui dive shop about it and he totally wrecked the experience by telling me about its invasive status. They are a beautiful fish but definitely got to go!
Palauan Paladin Well it is a good eating fish, I just don’t like the risk of ciguatera with it and it does eat all our native species so gotta get rid of them, always seems like a waste though.
Kumu is definitely top for me. I needa switch to carbon fiber fins, that 5 seconds more to bottom time peaked my interest lol. Just got a dive watch. Was doing minute half bottom times trying to get mus. Only landed like 3 so far.
Yeah I instantly noticed the difference just swimming on the surface with carbons from my cheap fiberglass fins I had before. Free diving is all about staying calm and conserving O2, so it just makes sense to have the most efficient gear to keep the heart rate down. I should’ve mentioned a dive watch in gear, for improving and keeping track a dive watch is essential. But a minute half is a good dive, keep it up 🤙🏼
imo that young ulua was perfect to harvest off the reef being that it produces far less offspring than the bigger ones. I realize that many believe in a "let them go, let them grow" mentality but thats not necessarily a more sustainable way of harvesting fish..just my 2 sense. KUMU is also my #1 Goat fish...Awesome content!!
On Da Holo It does make sense, even though I always target the biggest of any species. I do that with Uhu’s sometimes where I’ll take medium sized ones so the mature larger ones can continue to reproduce. Besides the smaller one’s taste better usually 👌🏼 thanks for sharing your opinion and thanks for watching 🤙🏼
FishingIowa515 I usually end up chumming them or bury them for fertilizer, I have eaten them before and they taste good but I really don’t like the risk associated with cig. Which is why I would really rather shoot toau’s or ta’ape, because I don’t feel like I’m wasting anything because I eat them 👌🏼
I respect that cleaning up the reef but putting them to good use too ya I only know a few guys eatin them bruddahs crazy lol keep up the good work you quickly became my favorite spearfishing channel!
WakeUpAndLive * That makes sense. Used to see Roi on the big island free diving but hard to spear. Very agile fish. Never saw any on Oahu and deep water was only in certain places. Had to swim much farther out.

Fish Hunt Yup, the invasives are all nice looking fish but can’t have them taking over the reef and messing with the native fish 👊🏼
Roi is a beautiful fish. Back in Palau the Roi is a very good eating fish. Choke too.

No mistake to that🔥 Good job.
I'm a fan.
True. If only they didn't have the sigs.

Us mainland guys wish we had Gt's. we got jack crevalles instead lol

On point as usual! What you usually do with the roy's eatem?
