  • For the last five years, Lisjan Ohlone leader Corrina Gould has been protecting one of her people's sacred places, the West Berkeley Shellmound and Village Site, from development. A judge ruled against the developer’s plans in October 2019 but the two sides are now battling it out in appeals court. During the court hearing on February 18, the landowners put up a six-foot fence with three strands of barbed wire around the 2.2-acre site, which is currently a parking lot. Ohlone people (and the public) are now blocked from going to this ancestral, historic site to put down their prayers-as they've been doing for thousands of years.
Instead of holding her regular spring equinox ceremony at the site, Corrina called on her supporters to join her for a day of civil disobedience and street art, followed by a candlelight vigil at sunset.

I wish the creator of this planet could remind those who believe they own it or part of it who the real owner is and that it belongs to all and those to come, that we are all dependent on each other and we ought to live like our lives depended on the web of our lives no matter how big, small, smart or what ever the species.

im a supporter but technically the area is private property and they can do what they want. native activism has got to get more aggressive. not now but at some point

That land was stolen!! The Native peoples were there first!!! The doctrine of discovery was written for the white land owner, but the land wasn’t empty. Natives were living on it way before colonialism but now they own it and can do whatever they want? No, look at the constitution of the United States. The savage has not the same rights they say, nor the black man who they consider 1/5 of a person!! Insulting words! Look up Mark Charles here on UA-cam and get an education on our “leader” and learn about the lie of the doctrine of discovery!
