Rama ! Great videos ! Thank you for giving us the sound of these instruments. I like your playing on those songs . Makes me want to get both Z3 and Z7. . One of your Z7 settings reminds me a bit of my 1978 Sabre musicman. Great treble on both basses. I like the high growls of the Z3! Thank you forward for your work!
Good playing as always !👍👏 I think Z7 got it all , just to handle the pickup balace and the great prea amp right !!! Best bass for the money in the world !❤ ( I have the Z7-5str. Swamp Ash and it’s outstanding ) Thank’s again for a very good demo as always . Can’t wait untill you do another one when you work with the prea amp , the bass knob sounds amazing punchy . And the neck !!!! So good to play ! God Bless🙏
Is it Z3 only an active bass ? Or the bass knob can be used push pull to switch passive and active mode ? I only knows that bass is only active mode, because there is a toggle switch or other. But on the other reviewer they talk the bass know can be used push pull to switch active and passive. Can you inform us . Thank you 🙏
@@RamaNatan Interesting! I dig the additional neck pickup. That's the setup that my current bass also has. But I dig the "correct" MM pickup position even more, something my current bass doesn't have, being based on the Jazz Bass. I guess the perfect model of the Z range for me would be an alder/rosewood Z7, so in white or burgundy. Burgundy looks sick! But I also dig the look of natural ash and roasted maple!
Exactly my thoughts. I don’t think Z7 is a bad instrument, but those high frequencies don’t sound very good to me, they’re harsh on the ears. “Glassy” is indeed a good word. I’m currently looking for an affordable five string and will probably go for Z3-5. The neck single coil on Z7 is unnecessary for me, and combined with the MM pickup, it doesn’t sound very balanced (the MM is much louder). I’m also not a fan of too many tonal options, so to speak. ;P So, the Z3 with a simpler preamp will be more suitable for me.
@@michalB_ If you don't need the neck pickup, the Z3 is totally the way to go! I think it easily kills Sterling's offerings. As for the Z7: I can imagine that the alder/rosewood variant sounds rounder and less harsh. I personally wouldn't want to miss the neck pickup and the passive tone blend. But the parametric mids are unnecessary much for my taste, the control plate is pretty crowded like that. Regarding electronics, my Clover Apeiron H.5 finds the right balance for me: 1 switch (active MM/J or passive J/J), 4 knobs (volume, balance, bass (disabled in passive mode), treble (turning into a tone blend when passive). I just modded it to a 3-way switch so I can play J/J active as well.

I do like the vintage tones of the Z3 more, this one is just too glassy for my taste. Awesome playing as always.

I have to say I prefer the Z3 too, but this bass still sounds great. Seems like it would be a great all-around instrument.
