I love Mot. My grandparents had a house that backed onto Mot estuary. We'd spend all day/everyday out there with the sun in our faces & mud in between our toes 😊. - So so good ❤
Wow! Curls, welcome back, thanks for that view of Motueka. My friends and I were there 50 years ago when we finished nursing training in Rotorua. We went down to help with the tobacco. We were planting and hoeing. There was not much there then, looks like a booming place now. There was a huge Rothman's factory at one end of the town with a huge rose garden in front. My friend bought a Morris 8, wire wheels and just considered for be a normal car, so we could drive into town for an icecream. We went to Golden Bay beach and then tried to go up the hill to Takaka but the car didn't have enough power and the four women could not push it up the last 20 metres. Wonderful memories.
Hi Curls Enjoyed your video of Motueka. I live here and the Fire Brigade is voluntary. The majority of their call outs are to cardiac arrests, medical emergencies and road traffic accidents. Fires are in the minority. Thought you might like to know. They do a fantastic job
That guy in OWW was pretty tough I remember him smashing anyone who gave him some cheek. Maybe Mot only gets a bit rowdy after everyone hits the boozer?
Hi Curls. Are you still in the South island? Oamaru is a GREAT place to visit. There's a wonderful hostel there, Swaggers Backpackers. Visit the Little Blue Penguins coming in from their fishing days and meet some seals up close there as well, observe the HUNDREDS of sea birds roosting on the quay, go see the Moeraki stones and go to the Katiki point for a great walk to the seal colony. We saw Yellow Eyed penguins there too. Also, a great fun experience Steam Punk in Oamaru, the markets in the old buildings, the cafe on the front by the playground for kids and adults - all weird and wonderful.
Shops running down each side of main highways here in N.Z is in some ways similar to how many shops in the U.S tend to be located right in front of busy main roads or small isolated highways. The shops are easily noticeable and accessible. Both N.Z and the U.S are predominantly car centric countries, making this an ideal way to increase business growth from those passing by.
The reason towns here are built with the main highway running thru them and shops either side of it is because it increases trade for the area if the shops are easily visible to those passing thru.
Lived here for a year in 2022, before that down the road at Riverside Community, good people in Mot! MSD in Mot is the best out of there, Richmond (not the best) and Nelson (middle). The pink camo ute is always there, love it! Dont lnow if you saw the Gecko movie theatre couches and great vibes! Also, Motueka Family Services centre is great too, did some free parenting courses through them!
hey Curls, can you please visit Kaikoura for me 💕 It is my favorite place in NZ even tho I live in the North Island, and have only been to Kaikoura once when i was 12, which feels like a hundred years ago lol. Welcome back to NZ & Safe Travels, Curls 🙂
I spent my teenage years in Motueka/Mapua. A friend worked at Whitwell's Menswear. I worked at the Texicana Takeaway which was next to the cinema (which is now the Rolling Pin Bakery). Liquorland/Placemakers use to be Hickmonts Bus Depot. W.D & H.O. Wills (Ltd) were the local tobacco processors and cigarette manufacturer (Rothmans).
Here’s a challenge for ya…do that exact same walk, but at 8-9pm (ie you’ve just come out from dinner) down the main end to end in Rotorua. Not sure ide film it tho, youde be relieved of your phone before the end of it’s seen
The mottley crew living around this locale might mean curls has to watch his step or use all his smooth talking to get out unscathed!!! Anyway maybe they were all having a sleep in so it's all good, lol
My great aunt lived in mot she had moths milkbar.....stayed there a few times with her....there are some awesome beaches u missed....golden bay from memory just over in kai teri teri its been a while hope I got that right 😂
Thank you for the videos. I have subscribed. May I ask something about the NZ culture? I guess just like the European and American societies, it is a custom for colleagues to party at weekend nights and drink a lot of alcohol. Have you seen there some people who don't like parties and avoid drinking? Do they suffer from isolation?
bro's yet to discover Huntly
yooo aye
Lol....small shitty town one road one road out 😂
Motueka is a nice town . I visited Nelson 2 years ago. People were really friendly and down to earth !!
I love Mot. My grandparents had a house that backed onto Mot estuary. We'd spend all day/everyday out there with the sun in our faces & mud in between our toes 😊.
- So so good ❤
The video made me like Mot already. It looks quiet but it is vibrant at the same time. Charming.
I love your positivity!

3rd, welcome back and love from Nelson. Remember me when you're famous ;)
The crystal shop is one of my favourite places to stop at in Motueka.
Mot looks a whole more upmarket than it did when it was just a tobacco growing area - looks lovely - can't wait until I can visit again! ❤

Love Motueka! Thanks Curls 😎💖

Except now we're paying the price for it by having to slow down to 50km/hr every 30-50km when trying to actually get anywhere
