it's genuinely shocking how little labor history was taught. I tell my coworkers all the time that people fought and died for their mandatory breaks that they skip and their overtime, and they'll laugh but I'm being dead serious! always glad to see two history educators dump on military history too lol
There's a reason for that, you know. The powers that be don't want you to remember the power that labor has, because it's a threat to their own power. So they'll do their best to hide it, whitewash it, and rewrite history, and when laborers start to rise up again, they absolutely will demonized the workers, sow disinformation and lies, turn public opinion against them, and infiltrate the movement to sabotage it.
Military history is cool though, even though a lot of it is made up bullshit. Reading accounts of battles is like listening to a monday morning quarterback lmao

The thoughts around 1:45 about reading negative stuff online then wandering around in public realizing someone wrote that - I feel like that's been the biggest strain social media has put on my personal relationships, because folks will be polite to your face, but then you see them just post the most bigoted, uninformed gross takes on thier accounts, like they think no one is reading them (or worse, maybe they think everyone "secretly" agrees with them?) and I don't know how I can even talk to them anymore? Normally I'm searching a comment on the top with a couple of likes and I'm just commenting under that. At least someone will reply and if I'm lucky I have a conversation about that topic.
Cody and Katy worked at Cracked with Daniel O'Brien, who's now one of John Oliver's writers, so it's possible they go about creating in the same way and that created the resulting similarities in the MLK videos.

I was very large in middle ane high school. It took me a long time to get over the hate I had internalized. But at some point I realized the brain inside my head, however unique it is, is bound by the same fears, hopes, aspirations, as anyone else's brain. However differently we manifest those things, we are all human. However much I hated some things about me, they hate some things about themselves. And we all just go about our lives, thinking everyone else thinks the same negative thoughts we think. So I try to smile. And chat. And make people comfortable, everywhere I go. Because if they feel anything like I used to, my God. I just want them to feel better. And maybe I'm thinking too deep. Maybe no one is like me. But from what I've gathered, we're all insecure. And that isn't what society is about. We should feel most secure when we have others around us. But our awareness of our flaws makes us paranoid.
As a "48 Stater", baby, I resent the arrogance of the "the limit is what we have" crowd. If the US had that attitude when I was born, Alaska and Hawaii would still be territories, and the US flag would be very retro.

Commenting to satiate the Algorithmic Lord. Great stream! With actual content instead of people reaching to find something to talk about. Really enjoyed it. Also, yes, NT is Taiwan's currency. The person super chatted probably wasn't a Taiwanese native, with the obviously English-sounding name, but he's (I'm assuming it's "he" bc of his name) probably working or studying in Taiwan? NT stands for New Taiwan Dollar if anyone's interested. Decades ago, there used to be the original Taiwan Dollar, which crashed in hyper-inflation, and the authoritarian government at the time just abolished it and converted to the new one. Et voilà, the New Taiwan Dollar. Problem solved.
Frederick Douglass said that you can be a good person and you can be a slave master, but you can't be both at the same time. And he was thrilled to be reunited with the people who owned him later in life after they abandoned slavery and regained their brain functions.
Advice for KB and anyone else with similar thoughts about the National Guard being ordered to shoot and kill striking workers: keep that in mind if/when the Railroad Strike materializes in the near future. It may become very relevant again in a hurry.
@1:31:00 you guys are talking about how to break the cycle. The biggest thing I can think of in my own life is taking an introductory philosophy class in college where the professor drilled into us one key point: no idea is worth holding on to unless you can explain to yourself why you believe it. It took me years to internalize this, but eventually I realized that they were right, and took a long, hard look at all of my own beliefs. I realized that inertia was the main driving force behind many of my beliefs, and that I simply couldn't defend holding on to them, even to myself. It was an extremely uncomfortable process, but one I've come to believe we must all undertake, and not just once, but constantly throughout our lives.
Well thanks, due to you two now I trust nothing I've ever been taught and know that I don't know anything about my own country's actual history :p How do you manage to be entertaining, educational, and depressing all at the same time?!

I had to cut off so many family and friends because it was hurtful to see them posting things in a public forum they would be embarrassed to say at a social gathering.
Love both of these channels.
Top rate content and production. I would love to have these guys as personal friends, to hang out with over a couple of beers. Thanks for all the videos.
This are actually two of my favorite UA-camrs ever!
Very nice... both of them have excellent education content. And actually the only channels (besides Hbomberguy) I have the 🔔 on.
P.S.: At ca. 1:40:35 you're talking about only a small percentage of people leave comments under the videos. As I see at, it makes no sense after 250 comments to leave a comment of my own because no one will read it anyway. Normally I'm searching a comment on the top with a couple of likes and I'm just commenting under that. At least someone will reply and if I'm lucky I have a conversation about that topic.
Chaos is a ladder.... I'm running with this.
Been watching both for a long time and a huge inspiration.
53:28 oh man. Bobby Broccoli is amazing. Highly recommend his very well-researched documentaries.
Two of my favorite worlds collide. Thanks.
Cody and Katy worked at Cracked with Daniel O'Brien, who's now one of John Oliver's writers, so it's possible they go about creating in the same way and that created the resulting similarities in the MLK videos.
J.J. Is the coolest Canadian Citizen I have ever met and I want him to know that even if C11 passes us Americans will watch his content regardless of what “patriotic” and “Culturally Authentic” Canadian standards he meets, or even fail to meet as long as he makes what he is passionate about.
much love from VA, Mike Preston, watch out form me in the news during the 2030s and 2040s when I start to run for state and federal office
Thanks to you and KB for what you do, and for sharing your creator experiences. I am producing a podcast (I know, white guy moment) about UN peacekeeping, and it really helps to be reminded that *expecting* to go big is unhealthy and characteristic of perhaps unsavory people.
Thank you again, both for the great informational content, and for opening up personally.
my first Knowing Better was about the Missouri Compromise line and my first Atun-shei was the Sudbury Fight and I'm so happy that both of you are active and producing ever more interesting content
I legitimately miss the live-action intro before the animated one
I rarely remember why i noticed a channel, but with KB i'm positive that it was his Ship of Theseus video about the Party switch.
Atun Shei was probably one of the first 3 Checkmate Lincolnites or the Gettysburg video.
KB, I hope you see this. I thoroughly enjoy your channel. I'm a fellow nasty girl, consider myself to be a history buff, and tend to lean more right politically. Your channel challenges me and opens my mind to many perspectives. Thank you for what you do!
Great meet up guys. I’m a fan of both of you.
Great conversation guys. Every day life during the civil war on both sides has been mostly passed over.
Reconstruction is another part of history that has been passed over. I agree with KB the battles are the biggest events when learning about the civil war era.
Love that the early years of this country is being explored and someone is giving voice to the views from native Americans and non native Americans.
Thank you.
Both of these guys have phenomenal content.
Omg! Two of my favorite ever channels teaming up! 🙏
I'm glad that this livestream reminded me to donate to Wikipedia! Thanks Mr Beat!
Great interview! Very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you guys!
Well I've been watching you both for years, muahahahaha! You're both great at presenting facts and explaining things without mansplaining too much. Love you guys!
Two fine UA-cam people who are so synergistic together! Say what you wish about the flaws of the medium, but your influence is so magnified 🔎 and socially beneficial, please continue to fight the good fight. Be well, wishing successful projects for the future to you both. 🤞😉
Idk why but it’s really cool to hear KB namedrop CGP Grey with such reverence. I feel like when it comes to research and informative content, Vsauce and CGP are the titans of that niche
>CGP Grey
>titan of research and informative content
The dude literally just parrots Wikipedia and pophistory books. What are you on about?
@@jedihunter176 I need you to go watch “A dead person ruined my life . . . again” and tell me he parroted Wikipedia, thanks.
The man is amazingly well known for doing copious amounts of research, you aren’t interesting for disliking him.
Liking and interacting with the crossover I didn’t know I needed
I saw the cross-over, and I was like “YES, I will watch this.”
Awesome two of my favorite creators, sweet!
Ultimate crossover
Unappreciated history podcast : History of Africa, History Unwritten and History of China.
Missed the stream: I’d honestly love to see a video deep diving into Florida history, and the difficulties of moderation in terms of addictive behavior.
What areas of Florida history are you curious about and want to see? I agree that Florida is extremely dynamic and fascinating!
Leftist history is often hard to come by. Thank you for all the hard work.
Dafuq? It's basically all I see.
@@myself2noone Then tell me about the labor movement. Tell me how worker's rights came about and the weaknesses of the movement. Tell me about the period in between Reconstruction and World War 1. Even my UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR of American History taught the Lost Cause Myth.
This is the kind of content I’m always excited for! Love both of these channels!
What GigaChads! Love both of your channels! I rarely enjoyed these types of videos, but this was an absolute pleasure- thanks gents!
I watch both of your channels. You both present your information and ideas in an entertaining way.
Encyclopedias are never intended as First hand Citations anywhere in any discussion.
Pointing to Encyclopedia as a First source is like Pointing to a Catalogue of retailer like Sears or Ikea and then said that "This product must be in stock at my local sears/ikea at this very moment", where it could be false because they're not First hand sources
It's great for "Oh Sears sells a White couch' but not "Oh the Sears at 35th street sells white couch and have 55 of them on stock"
Three Arrows still does content, he just does it on his podcast channel, The Iron Dice.
Less than 9 mins into the video, it occurs to me that I'm not sure if I'm subscribed to KB's channel... Pausing this briefly to make sure that I am... I like his sincere and authentic personality, and the care that he approaches everything... I find it very vindicating to my own OCD-mandated ways...!! 🤪 😜
Atun shei giving out lilbourne propoganda is why I love this channel. Leveller for life.
I love that other nerds write in notebooks in color coded nonsense like I do. Bless ye, boys.
Although it's fairly obvious from his content, it's reassuring to hear how meticulous KB is in his research.
This was awesome! Love ya KB!
Frederick Douglass said that you can be a good person and you can be a slave master, but you can't be both at the same time. And he was thrilled to be reunited with the people who owned him later in life after they abandoned slavery and regained their brain functions.
It’s like Twix, two great things come together. You guys could be a sitcom. The Odd Couple 2023.
@@oedipamaas2067that is an indication of the fall of civilization.
This was awesome. Much respect to both of you.
The two of you and miniminuteman are the best thing on the internet (imno)
My two favorite creators !!! Awesome
31:00 for me the paint creek strike where owners sent a literal armoured train to fire on a worker and family camp is just mind blowing
knowingbetter is my calm, rational, affable historytube dad. andy is my crazy historytube uncle
Lindybeige, my other crazy uncle.
A livestream with atun-shei and Dr Heather cox Richardson would be the most ducky thing ever.
Advice for KB and anyone else with similar thoughts about the National Guard being ordered to shoot and kill striking workers: keep that in mind if/when the Railroad Strike materializes in the near future. It may become very relevant again in a hurry.
fantastic stream, love both of your channels
3 Arrows does The Iron Dice podcast. He's still active, just on a differnt channel.
3 Arrows is pretty levelheaded. He's fun to watch.
Bobby brocoli makes very good story behind science videos. I like his videos about the canceled Superconducting Super Collider and Hendrix Schön.
Well thanks, due to you two now I trust nothing I've ever been taught and know that I don't know anything about my own country's actual history :p
How do you manage to be entertaining, educational, and depressing all at the same time?!
I've had the same 2 friends from elementary school. Picked up 2 more guys right after high school. We've had the same group chat going for like 12 years. We don't text eachother directly anymore.
Bobby broccoli makes phenomenal documentaries
I caught a tiny chunk of this but I'm looking forward to hearing this conversation
Oh how I wish I was a native English speaking guy with an American accent making educational videos on UA-cam 🥺
I love accents! Which one do you have?
@@TheTroutyness German! I feel like German accents are uniquely awful but that might be a bit biased haha.. :D
I think the German accent sounds really nice.
@@algepaca dw about your accent! If you want to make history videos, make them!
Thank all of you for your kind words, it's very encouraging :)
"I've been following you creepily for years! Sometime even on the computer!"
I never watched streams, but for you two, I will.
the real columbus is closer to being a TF2 character than what is depicted
Love the creators. Disagree strongly about being able to teach critical thinking skills as I learned from being taught them. JJ was off on his examples in his video, in that one could take one piece and know everything about a topic....critical thinking is not usually engaged with as one very quickly finds that ones knowledge is lacking and further research is necessary. Critical thinking takes alot of work!
56:53 for anyone interested in what the angry Columbus comment was
First Carl from in range now Knowing better, Atum shie knows all the cool people
