- Taking some time today to replace a window that my mother broke on this car after she had locked herself out. It actually cost more for this window than the larger back window that rolls down surprisingly enough. That's typically the case though with these quarter windows.

Thank you SO much for this post! Some jerk smashed this window in my 20 year old car yesterday. I can only assume it was to to steal my Wal-Mart sunglasses and cell phone charging cable, since thats all they got. The cheapest autoglass place in my area wanted 160$ + tax for this job, not including the window (brand new was 359$!!!). I did it myself in less than an hour, with a 45$ window from the wreckers. I don't have comprehensive insurance on this old thing and you saved me a bundle! Plus, I'm feeling pretty good about doing it myself 😏

Same here, except that some jerk was me...
Smashed the rear quarterlight on my Kia Rio after I locked myself out whilst fixing the central locking😩. Picked up some plexiglass from a DIY store the same afternoon and once cut and fitted, only I could tell. Left it like that for a few months but picked up a replacement piece of glass off ebay for £16 ( $21ish ) delivered. So replaced today in around 1/2 an hour - this video helped with working out how to remove the seal and the frame. Many thanks.

If you have to break a window to get into a vehicle, choose the front passanger door glass. More readily available and usually cheaper at the local junk yard. Also, much easier to replace!
Generally speaking I always bust my windshield and use cellophane as a windshield for about 12 weeks until I can afford a new windshield

Edit: all done here, cleaned the track and rubber then gave it all a shot of silicone spray... reinstalled the track then snaked the rubber down in place. TiteIsRite
Mine is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS and here's a tip for some of you:
The top of the track was fastened in place with a screw through the top of the door frame under the weatherstrip. Just pull it back and there it is

had to break into my car last found a replacement window for $20 bought it and never replaced a quarter window so this video helped!!

Even if they're the same price as a roll down one day it's so much simpler to fix trying to tell a door apart to fix a roll down window it's a nightmare it can take you a week

Huh, didn't know that about the quarter window price. I know a lot of ppl who did the same thing, but just taped up some plastic over it.
You can do anything, I actually used you as an example of a renaissance man in class.

To get the winder off, use a rag and pull it between the door panel and the handle. The clip pops right off

Thank you. Looks similar to a vw Jetta I need to do. The glass shop wants $110 just to remove and replace it. And I need to find one. Found one on eBay $50.

Need to know how to install a quarter panel on Chevy Malibu 08 LS right side back had to get a new quarter panel window because had messed up when taking the weatherstrip off. I got a new quarter panel off Ebay and the top part part of door weatherstrip but need a video instruction on putting it back on. Not taking nomore weatherstrips off I already took a lot off already before I paint the Chevy Malibu and took pics too of parts took off like door knobs, lights, front grille, trunk, inside door panels, rear bumper, hood and outside sideview mirrors. I took like 800 pics.
you can take off the window rotor clip with a shoe string, slide it between the rotor and panel, the pull string side to side
I had 2 quotes 1 was $500 the other was $408.95. so I'm gonna do mine myself. thanks for the tips man. When you accidentally broke the styrofoam tho lol!!

I sure wish I had seen this video before I locked my keys in the car. Unfortunately this happened in the middle of nowhere. No Pop a Lock etc. was available. I used the same logic thinking that the much smaller quarter window would be the least expensive to replace. Much to my surprize at $300.00 the stupid little quarter window was more expensive than either the front or rear passenger windows and only slightly less than the rear hatch window. For what it worth if you DIY it is much easier to replace. That plus I bought a used one from eBay for $65.00

Man it was a while back. It was a junkyard for sure, but I cant recall. For this particular window that stuff is just on there from the factory i guess.

Everything leading up to 4:37 is getting the original window frame out. The old window (or whats left of it) comes out at that time.

It's pobably an American thing because in many countries, for example , Eastern Europe, the average person is very capable of fixing almost all issues with his car and house and very occasionally may need the help of a professional.
This thing about the window is as simple as a 12yo can do.
No offence intended, just that I'm surprised at the people's wonder of such easy matters!
This guy does have some skills the average person doesn't. Namely patience which allows you not to f things up worse than they are. I had to learn that the hard way.
Local salvage yard prices- Windshield $32 , any door window $16 , *quarter window $35* (!!!)
Assuming you didn't really know what you were doing before this you did well figuring that out but you said have put some adhesive cuz it is going to leak when it rains

I can back up the statement that the quarter windows are more expensive because for one they are hard to find to begin with, at least with my car it was. The person who I bought my car from decided it would be easier to replace the window with a piece of plexiglass, that was btw cut out wrong and didn't even fit right. and then to add on to that they painted both sides black lol fun times
yeah I hear ya. it can be a trick to find them. scour ebay and online junkyards. There were a ton of these cars made, so they are definitely floating around out there.

This was easy. I did this on an Infiniti g37. It was hard asf. I had to remove the whole door panel nd a bunch of other stuff

It's actually cheaper to call someone to open your door and get your keys out ... cost me $45 ... not once but twice before I had extra keys made LOL ... color me a dingbat, the keys were $3 each
